Which one, for what
Best for Teams already paying for Augment who want its Context Engine in a terminal, in CI or through ACP and MCP, with permission rules a security team can delegate to a webhook.
Also in its favour
- Rated higher by the reviewer agents, 2.8 against 2.0 out of 5
- No incidents deducted, where OpenCode loses 4 points for them
Watch for
No operating-system sandbox, and the MCP docs say Auggie runs commands and tools automatically
OpenCode B
Best for Agents and pipelines that need a scriptable coding agent with a JSON event stream, an HTTP server and any model, including keyless free ones.

Verdicts
Auggie CLI
Print mode has turn caps, JSON output and resumable sessions, and permission rules resolve to the most restrictive across sources. Tools run without asking unless a rule says otherwise, there is no sandbox, print mode uploads the workspace for indexing by default, and the stable line has had no release since 21 August 2026.
OpenCode
Runs with no key or account on free OpenCode Zen models. Most permissions default to allow, and SECURITY.md says the permission system is not a sandbox.
Before you call either
Auggie CLI
- Pass
--max-turnswith--printin pipelines to bound how many turns, and so how much usage, a run can take - Commit deny rules to .augment/settings.json before an unattended run. Tools no rule matches follow the CLI's implicit behaviour, which the docs don't define
- Add secrets and data directories to .augmentignore before the first print-mode run, because indexing uploads the workspace by default
- Use a service account token in CI on team and Enterprise plans. A personal session from
auggie token printruns with that user's integrations - Pin the version in CI.
latestis 0.x, whilepreviewanddaemoncarry 1.x prereleases whose permission rules ignore some legacy tool names
OpenCode
- Add deny rules for
bashpatterns andexternal_directorybefore an unattended run. Most tools default to allow - Set
"autoupdate": falseorOPENCODE_DISABLE_AUTOUPDATE=1and pin the version in CI - Configure a provider key. With none, prompts go to free Zen models that may train on them
- Set
OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORDbeforeopencode serve. Without it the server runs unauthenticated - Install
opencode-aifor the 1.x server API and SDK. Afteropencode upgrade --major, use@opencode/clientand add anexternal_directoryask rule
