Verdicts
Cline
Approval before edits and commands in the IDE, with command auto-approval off by default since 4.0.0. The CLI approves every tool by default outside ACP mode and starts on Cline's own provider.
Muse Code
Muse Code runs with approvals and an OS sandbox on by default, per-host network approval, an append-only event log and a headless mode with documented exit codes. It is the only route to Muse Wonder Full. It is closed source with undated release notes and no free route, and subscriptions allow training on code unless Contributor mode is turned off.
Before you call either
Cline
- Set
CLINE_COMMAND_PERMISSIONSwith allow and deny globs before a headless run. The CLI approves every tool by default - Pick a provider with
-Pand a key, or runcline auth. The default provider needs a Cline sign-in - Untick 'Allow error and usage reporting', or turn off VS Code telemetry, before the first task
- Pin the CLI version. 2.3.0 was a malicious publish
- Keep the hub on 127.0.0.1 or set ROOM_SECRET, and run 3.0.30 or later
Muse Code
- Set
META_API_KEYfor headless runs. Browser sign-in isn't available in CI or for Meta Managed Accounts - Gate on your own test command, not the exit code.
muse execreturns 0 when the turn completes even if tests still fail - Pass
--max-model-stepson unattended runs so a stuck task can't loop - Prefer
--disable-approvalto--yoloin CI so the sandbox stays on. On Linux the runner needs a working bubblewrap and a non-musl build - Turn Contributor mode off in
/settingsbefore a subscription session touches private code
