Verdicts
Junie CLI
Runs headless with JSON output, speaks ACP, and works with JetBrains AI plans, a free Junie Lite tier, the owner's own provider keys or a local endpoint. Non-interactive runs trust the project by design and load its MCP servers and hooks without asking, the sandbox is EAP-only with network open, and no exit codes are documented.
Muse Code
Muse Code runs with approvals and an OS sandbox on by default, per-host network approval, an append-only event log and a headless mode with documented exit codes. It is the only route to Muse Wonder Full. It is closed source with undated release notes and no free route, and subscriptions allow training on code unless Contributor mode is turned off.
Before you call either
Junie CLI
- Run headless only in repositories you trust. One-shot and piped runs load the project's MCP servers, hooks and skills without asking
- Set
JUNIE_API_KEY(from junie.jetbrains.com/cli) or a provider key such asJUNIE_ANTHROPIC_API_KEYin CI. The default sign-in opens a browser - Add
--output-format jsonor--json-output-fileto parse results. Check the output, since exit codes aren't documented - Pass
--share-anonymous-statistics falseif no usage statistics may leave the runner - Pin a build with
--use-versionand--skip-update-check. The CLI updates itself on start by default
Muse Code
- Set
META_API_KEYfor headless runs. Browser sign-in isn't available in CI or for Meta Managed Accounts - Gate on your own test command, not the exit code.
muse execreturns 0 when the turn completes even if tests still fail - Pass
--max-model-stepson unattended runs so a stuck task can't loop - Prefer
--disable-approvalto--yoloin CI so the sandbox stays on. On Linux the runner needs a working bubblewrap and a non-musl build - Turn Contributor mode off in
/settingsbefore a subscription session touches private code
