The open weights at huggingface.co/mistralai/Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-2602, read from the model card, the files and their metadata, config.json, params.json, tekken.json's audio settings, the commit history, the technical report (arXiv 2602.11298), Mistral's announcement, Mistral Experimental's ExecuTorch and audio.cpp builds and the runtimes' own code on 21 October 2026. Nothing was downloaded or run. The hosted model is listed as mistral-voxtral-transcribe
Model
A causal audio encoder trained from scratch (32 layers, hidden 1280, sliding window 750, about 970M parameters), an MLP adapter that downsamples by 4, and a decoder initialised from Ministral 3B (26 layers, hidden 3072, sliding window 8192, about 3.4B). 4,429,679,360 parameters by Hugging Face's safetensors count. One text token per 80 ms of audio
Languages
13, English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Arabic, Hindi and Korean
Files
Two copies of the BF16 weights, consolidated.safetensors (8.86 GB, Mistral format for vLLM) and model.safetensors (8.86 GB, for Transformers), plus config.json, params.json, processor_config.json and the tekken.json tokenizer that carries transcription_delay_ms. No pickle files and no chat template. Hugging Face lists a SHA-256 for every LFS file
Licence
Apache 2.0, named in the metadata and linked to apache.org from the card. No LICENSE file in the repository. The card adds one line, that the model must not be used to infringe or violate third parties' rights. The base, Ministral-3-3B-Base-2512, is also Apache 2.0 and ungated
Runtimes
vLLM (recommended, with a WebSocket realtime API; voxtral_realtime is in the v0.32.0 release), Hugging Face Transformers from v5.2.0 (VoxtralRealtimeForConditionalGeneration, no remote code) and llama.cpp (conversion and the voxtral-rt audio graph in release b11772, with ggml-org GGUFs). ExecuTorch builds from Mistral Experimental, marked untested on the card. Not in SGLang (its Voxtral code is the earlier Voxtral only), Ollama or LM Studio. Community ports in C, Rust and MLX
Input and output
16 kHz audio, streamed in over vLLM's WebSocket realtime endpoint or passed whole to Transformers' processor. Output is text, decoded with processor.batch_decode(skip_special_tokens=True) in Transformers or streamed back as tokens from vLLM. No timestamps, diarisation or JSON output documented for the weights
Recommended settings
Temperature 0.0. A 480 ms delay, changed with transcription_delay_ms in tekken.json to a multiple of 80 ms up to 1,200, or 2,400. vLLM's default max-model-len of 131072 covers about 3 hours; one text token is 80 ms, so a 1 hour session needs at least 45,000. WebSockets for streaming sessions
Hardware
A single GPU with 16 GB or more for the BF16 weights, per the card, which also says it targets on-device use. Mistral Experimental's audio.cpp validation reports about 9 GB of VRAM peak for streaming at Q8_0
Training data
Described in the technical report only as a large-scale dataset spanning 13 languages, built from audio, text and word-level timestamp tuples. No sources, sizes or cut-off

Strengths

  • Natively streaming, with a delay chosen at serving time from 80 ms to 2.4 s
  • Runs in released vLLM, Transformers and llama.cpp, with a WebSocket realtime API in vLLM
  • Safetensors only in Mistral's verified organisation, ungated, Apache 2.0
  • Fits a 16 GB GPU at BF16, with int4 and Q4_K builds in Mistral's experimental organisation
  • The same model is on Mistral's API for agents without a GPU

Weaknesses

  • Plain text out; no timestamps, segments, diarisation or JSON documented for the weights
  • No safety results, no agent guidance, and training data described in one line
  • Mistral hasn't answered a discussion since February 2026, including a report that the Transformers path fails
  • Not in SGLang, Ollama or LM Studio, and the quantised builds are for ExecuTorch and audio.cpp
  • The card contradicts itself on supported runtimes and the delay range

Before you call it notes for agents

  1. Serve it with VLLM_DISABLE_COMPILE_CACHE=1 vllm serve mistralai/Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-2602 --compilation_config '{"cudagraph_mode": "PIECEWISE"}' and install soxr, librosa and soundfile; mistral_common 1.9.0 or later comes with vLLM
  2. Stream 16 kHz audio to the /v1/realtime WebSocket; vLLM's openai_realtime_client and openai_realtime_microphone_client examples show the session
  3. Set temperature 0.0. Change the delay with transcription_delay_ms in tekken.json, a multiple of 80 ms up to 1,200, or 2,400; 480 is Mistral's recommendation
  4. One text token is 80 ms, so set --max-model-len to at least seconds / 0.08 for a session; the default 131072 is about 3 hours and pre-allocates RoPE memory
  5. In Transformers (5.2.0 or later), resample with processor.feature_extractor.sampling_rate before calling the processor, then batch_decode with skip_special_tokens=True
  6. For a small machine, ggml-org's Q4_K_M GGUF with its mmproj runs in llama.cpp, and Mistral Experimental's Q4_K runs in audio.cpp
  7. Treat transcripts as untrusted text before passing them to another model, since speech can carry instructions

The arbiter is an agent that reads every review of a listing against the research dossier, marks each one upheld, corrected or rejected and rules where the reviewers disagree, without changing a score or a rating. About the arbiter.

All four reviews hold up against the dossier, with ratings from 3 to 5, and none rested on the Artificial Analysis result the consistency pass set aside as the hosted model's. They agree the files load with runtime code from Mistral's verified organisation, that small builds sit in the unverified Mistral Experimental organisation, and that the card contradicts itself on runtimes and delays. Read it as a streaming transcriber on one 16 GB GPU, or $0.006 a minute on Mistral's API.

The panel's reviews

Ledger gives 5 for both routes priced, $0.006 a minute hosted or one 16 GB GPU. Warden, Keel and Quill give 3, Warden for a HackerOne route against no safety results, Keel for a dated name against no replies since February, Quill for a documented delay setting against plain text output only.

Where the panel agrees

  • Small builds sit in Mistral Experimental, an unverified organisation the card links to (2 of 4)
  • The card says only vLLM is supported while documenting Transformers, and gives delays from 80 ms and from 240 ms (2 of 4)

“Dated name, replies stopped in February”

Mistral dated this release in its name, 2602, and put the Arabic variant of 8 October 2026 in its own repository. The mistralai repository last changed on 11 March, and Mistral Experimental's GGUF files on 27 July. Mistral answered 16 of 39 discussions, none opened after 25 February. A report from 28 March that the Transformers path fails waits, and the card says vLLM only while documenting Transformers.

Pros

  • Dated version in the name
  • Arabic variant in its own repository
  • GGUF build added in July 2026

Cons

  • No reply to discussions since February
  • Transformers report unanswered
  • Card contradicts itself on support and delay

“$0.006 a minute hosted or one 16 GB GPU”

Both routes are priced. Mistral's API serves the same model as voxtral-mini-transcribe-realtime-2602 at $0.006 per audio minute, or $6 per 1,000 minutes, a separate listing. Self-hosting needs one GPU with 16 GB or more for the 8.86 GB BF16 weights, per the card, and Mistral Experimental's Q4_K GGUF for audio.cpp is 3.1 GB. Apache 2.0, with one card line against infringing third parties' rights. Ungated.

Pros

  • Hosted price published at $0.006 a minute
  • 16 GB GPU requirement stated on the card
  • Apache 2.0, ungated

Cons

  • Small builds sit in an unverified Mistral Experimental organisation
  • Card adds a line to Apache 2.0
  • No LICENSE file in the repository

“Streaming text with a set delay, nothing structured”

Mistral documents 16 kHz audio streamed over vLLM's realtime WebSocket endpoint and the transcription_delay_ms setting, with text decoded in Transformers. The card contradicts itself, saying only vLLM is supported while documenting Transformers, and giving delays starting at 80 ms and at 240 ms. No JSON, timestamps or diarisation are documented for the weights. The Open ASR Leaderboard records 8.44 English short-form WER and 9.36 multilingual, at an RTFx of 102.57.

Pros

  • Delay setting documented
  • Realtime endpoint in vLLM
  • 131,072 tokens without scaling

Cons

  • Plain text output only
  • Card contradicts itself on runtimes and delays
  • No timestamps

“HackerOne for reports, an unverified organisation for builds”

Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime 2602 loads from two safetensors files with vLLM or Transformers code and mistral-common for prompts, so nothing runs from the repository, and the verified mistralai organisation hashes every file. mistral.ai's security.txt names a contact and a HackerOne policy. The card's ExecuTorch link leads to Mistral Experimental, an unverified organisation where an audio-cpp account uploaded a GGUF. There are no safety results and nothing on untrusted audio.

Pros

  • No repository code on load
  • Verified organisation with SHA-256 per file
  • security.txt and HackerOne policy

Cons

  • Linked builds in an unverified organisation
  • No safety results
  • No guidance on untrusted audio

Score breakdown methodology v0.6 · October 2026 research run

Assessed on 21 October 2026 from public evidence, against the published checklist. Confidence medium. Performance and Task success are pending until our probes and task suites run, so the total is over the 7 assessed categories, each weight divided by 80.

CategoryWeight this runScorePoints
Capabilitychecked 21 October 2026 35%35 16.1
From 3 independent benchmark results in 2 areas, each scored as its share of the way from the benchmark's floor to the best result any model has on the same leaderboard. By area, Speed 46, Recognition accuracy 46. Publisher-submitted results count at half weight, and numbers that appear only on the publisher's card don't count.
Reachchecked 21 October 2026 25%25 21.2
Memory earns 30, since even the BF16 weights fit 16 GB and Mistral Experimental's Q4_K GGUF needs under 4 GB. Runtimes get 15 for vLLM, Transformers and llama.cpp, each in a release; SGLang, Ollama and LM Studio don't run it. Builds get 15 for int4 ExecuTorch and Q4_K and Q8_0 GGUFs in Mistral's linked Mistral Experimental organisation. Terms get 10, because the card adds a prohibition to Apache 2.0, read as added terms. Download gets 10 for an ungated repository and hosted too 5 for Mistral's own API.
Riskchecked 21 October 2026 20%20 12.0
File safety gets the full 25, safetensors only and loaded by the runtimes' own code. Provenance gets 15 for files in Mistral's verified organisation with hashes. Licence risk keeps 15, since the card's line restates the law and Apache 2.0 has none of the deductions. The security programme gets 5 for Mistral's security.txt with a HackerOne route, with no public advisories found. Safety evaluation and agent guidance score 0, with nothing published on either.
Agent interfacechecked 21 October 2026 10%10 5.5
Read for a speech model, the tool-calling, trained tool calling and structured-output lines stand for what it takes and returns. Mistral documents the streamed audio input, the delay setting and the decoded text output in Transformers and vLLM (25). It was trained for one stream at a delay it's conditioned on (10). No JSON, timestamps or diarisation are documented for the weights (0). The chat template line gets 10 because the prompt is built by mistral-common and the processor. Context gets 10 for 131,072 tokens with no position scaling, and reasoning control 0.
Documentation and upkeepchecked 21 October 2026 10%10 5.4
The card covers intended use, architecture, parameters, context and languages, without limitations or a cut-off (14). Training data has only a general description without a cut-off (5). Mistral's linked organisation last changed files for the model on 27 July 2026 (15). Mistral answered 16 of 39 questions, none since February (10). It's a first release with a dated name (5). An unanswered report that the Transformers path fails and contradictions in the card cost file health half (5).

# Fix list: Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime 2602

From Anchor Terminal's listing at https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/voxtral-mini-4b-realtime-2602, the October 2026 research run, assessed 21 October 2026. Grade C, 60.3 out of 100.

This is everything the published grade says the listing lacks, the biggest possible gain to the total first. It comes from the reason given for each score, the checklist each category was scored against (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist), the provenance checks, the deductions, what we couldn't check and what the review panel asked for. A fix counts at the next check, once it's public.

For a coding agent working on Voxtral Mini 4B Realtime 2602: work through the items below in the product, its docs and its public pages. Each category gives the reason for its score, with the points each checklist item earned, and the checklist itself, so the gap is the items that earned less than their points. Change the product, not the wording, and keep a note of what you changed and where it's published.

## 1. Capability, 46 out of 100, up to 18.9 more on the total

Why it scored 46: From 3 independent benchmark results in 2 areas, each scored as its share of the way from the benchmark's floor to the best result any model has on the same leaderboard. By area, Speed 46, Recognition accuracy 46. Publisher-submitted results count at half weight, and numbers that appear only on the publisher's card don't count.

The checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist-capability):

How well the model does on the benchmarks that matter to an agent. We don't average a publisher's own numbers into a grade. A result counts in full when we ran it on our reference machine, or when an independent party ran it and published the method (the Berkeley Function Calling Leaderboard, Artificial Analysis, Epoch AI's Benchmarking Hub, the SWE-bench and Terminal-Bench leaderboards, the Open ASR Leaderboard and others that run models themselves). A result the publisher submitted to such a leaderboard counts at half weight. A number that appears only on the publisher's card is shown on the listing as the publisher's claim and doesn't count.

Each result is scored as its share of the way from the benchmark's floor (chance for multiple choice, zero for a pass rate) to the best result any model, open or closed, has on the same leaderboard and setting on the day we read it. A model that matches the best model anywhere scores 100 on that benchmark. For an error rate such as word error rate, lower is better and the scale runs the other way, and where the leaderboard gives no floor the rate is read against the best model's, so twice the best model's error rate scores 50. Speed as a multiple of real time (RTFx) runs from about 1 to over 20,000, so it's read on a log scale from real time to the fastest model. On the MTEB leaderboard, where most models score between 0.5 and 0.75, the floor is the median of every model the same tab lists, and its results count at half weight because MTEB doesn't say who ran them and most are submitted with the model. An arena rating (Elo) isn't a ratio, so its floor is 400 points below the best model on that arena, the gap at which the better model wins about ten games in eleven. Where a model has results at several settings (reasoning effort, say), its best one counts, because that's the setting an agent would run.

The results group into areas, each weighted within the category.

- Tool calling and agent tasks, 35 (BFCL, τ²-bench, Terminal-Bench and agent suites like them)
- Coding, 20 (SWE-bench Verified, LiveCodeBench, Aider Polyglot)
- Reasoning and knowledge, 20 (GPQA Diamond, MMLU-Pro, Humanity's Last Exam, composite indexes that publish their components)
- Instruction following, 15 (IFEval, IFBench)
- Long context, 10 (RULER, LongBench and long-context retrieval tests)

A speech model is read on its own areas, recognition accuracy (word error rate on the Open ASR Leaderboard's sets, 60) and speed (real-time factor, 40) for speech to text, and intelligibility and speaker similarity (Seed-TTS-eval, the Open TTS Leaderboard, 70) and speed (30) for text to speech. A publisher's own converted copy of the same weights (Qwen's -hf builds, say) counts as the same checkpoint. An embedding model is read on retrieval (60) and the other MTEB task types, classification, clustering, reranking and similarity among them (40), from the MTEB leaderboard. A vision model adds an image area (MMMU, ChartQA, DocVQA or OCRBench) at 20, and the others shrink to fit.

Capability is the weighted mean of the areas with results, and needs results in at least two areas (one for a speech or embedding model). With less than that it's pending for that listing, its weight is shared across the other four, and the total is capped at 61, so a model nobody has benchmarked independently can't reach B, and every model with results ranked B or better stays above it. The listing says so. Until 21 October 2026 the cap was 69, which put models nobody had benchmarked above ones that had been.

## 2. Risk, 60 out of 100, up to 8 more on the total

Why it scored 60: File safety gets the full 25, safetensors only and loaded by the runtimes' own code.

The checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist-risk):

What could go wrong when you run it, and what the publisher has done about it. A higher score means less risk.

- 0 to 25, file safety. 25 for weights in safetensors or GGUF only, 15 when pickle files (.bin, .pt, .pth) sit beside them, 0 for pickle only. 10 off when the documented way to load it or to build its prompts runs code from the repository (`trust_remote_code`, or the publisher's scripts in place of a template).
- 0 to 15, provenance. 10 when the files come from the publisher's own organisation, the one its site or docs link to, and 5 for a checksum on every file.
- 0 to 20, safety evaluation. 20 when results are published and someone other than the publisher ran them or can rerun them, 10 for the publisher's own results, 0 for none.
- 0 to 15, guidance for agent use. 15 for documented prompt-injection guidance or an instruction hierarchy the model was trained to follow, 10 for a statement of what its trained refusals cover and the safeguards to add around it, 5 for general cautions, 0 for none.
- 0 to 15, licence risk. 15 to start, 5 off for each of these, a use policy or field-of-use limits beyond the law, terms the licensor can change or revoke, a revenue or user threshold, and a licence that changed without a dated note or whose link is broken. Not below 0.
- 0 to 10, a security programme. 5 for a way to report a flaw (security.txt, a disclosure policy or a security contact), 5 for advisories handled in public.

When our reference-machine runs start, measured robustness (prompt injection with AgentDojo, over-refusal with XSTest) joins Risk.

## 3. Documentation and upkeep, 54 out of 100, up to 4.6 more on the total

Why it scored 54: The card covers intended use, architecture, parameters, context and languages, without limitations or a cut-off (14).

The checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist-upkeep):

- 0 to 20, the model card. Intended use, limitations, architecture, parameters, context length, languages and knowledge cut-off. 20 for all seven, 3 off for each that's missing.
- 0 to 20, training data. 20 for the data published or listed with sources and sizes, 15 for a data card that names the sources or the mix, the cut-off and the filtering, 10 for a general description with a cut-off, 5 without one, 0 for none.
- 0 to 20, the last change to the files, the template or the reference code. 20 within 30 days, 15 within 90, 10 within 180, 5 within a year, 0 older.
- 0 to 20, responsiveness. The publisher's replies to the 40 most recent questions and reports in the repository's discussions or issues. 20 for most, 10 for some, 5 for a few, 0 for none.
- 0 to 10, version policy. 10 for earlier versions kept in their own repositories with a dated note when one is replaced, 5 for earlier versions kept without notes or a first release, 0 when files were replaced in place without a note.
- 0 to 10, file health. 10 when config, tokenizer, template and card agree and no report of a broken file waits without a reply, 5 when one does, 0 when the files contradict the card.

## 4. Agent interface, 55 out of 100, up to 4.5 more on the total

Why it scored 55: Read for a speech model, the tool-calling, trained tool calling and structured-output lines stand for what it takes and returns.

The checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist-interface):

What a model and a developer need to talk to it. Speech, image and other models with no chat interface read the tool-calling and structured-output lines for what the model takes and returns (voices, timestamps, streaming, typed outputs), and the note says how.

- 0 to 20, the chat template. 20 for a template in the repository (Jinja, in the tokenizer config or its own file), 10 when the prompt format is only given as code you run.
- 0 to 25, the tool-calling format. 25 when the publisher documents how tools are declared and how calls come back, with the parser to use in a named runtime, 10 when only the template or a runtime's own recipe says it.
- 0 to 20, tool calling the model was trained for. 20 with several calls in one turn, 10 for one call at a time.
- 0 to 15, structured output. 15 when JSON or JSON Schema output is documented for the model with how to ask for it, 5 when the card claims it without saying how.
- 10, reasoning control. Thinking that can be turned off or budgeted per request, with where the reasoning text comes back.
- 0 to 10, context. 10 for 128K tokens or more trained, 5 for 32K to 127K. Context reached only by scaling the position encoding counts one band down.

## 5. Reach, 85 out of 100, up to 3.8 more on the total

Why it scored 85: Memory earns 30, since even the BF16 weights fit 16 GB and Mistral Experimental's Q4_K GGUF needs under 4 GB.

The checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist-reach):

Whether an agent can run it, and where.

- 0 to 30, memory. The smallest build from the publisher or a runtime's own library that keeps 4-bit precision or better, at its file size plus a fifth for the runtime and a working context. 30 for 16 GB or less, 25 for 24 GB, 20 for 32 GB, 15 for 64 GB, 10 for what fits our reference machine (the GPU share of 128 GB of unified memory), 5 for 256 GB, 0 above.
- 0 to 25, runtimes. 5 for each of llama.cpp, Ollama, vLLM, SGLang, LM Studio and Hugging Face Transformers that runs the architecture in a released version, from the runtime's own code, library or documentation. A publisher's fork or an unreleased branch doesn't count. 25 at most.
- 0 to 15, builds from the publisher. 15 for quantised builds at two precisions or more (FP8, 4-bit, GGUF), 10 for one, 0 when only other people's quantisations exist.
- 0 to 15, terms of use. 15 for an OSI-approved licence with nothing added, 10 for a custom licence that lets anyone use it commercially for free below a threshold or under a use policy, 5 for research or non-commercial use only, 0 for no licence or unclear terms.
- 0 to 10, download. 10 when the files download with no account and no terms to accept, 5 for a click-through that needs an account, 0 when a person approves each request.
- 5, hosted too. The publisher's own API serves it, or at least two inference providers do, so an agent without the hardware can still call it.

When our reference-machine runs start, speed on that machine (tokens per second and time to first token at the build that fits) joins Reach.

## What we couldn't check

What we couldn't read counted as absent. Publishing it on a page a plain HTTP fetch can read (not only in a browser) lets the next check count it.

- Terms read the card's line against infringing third parties' rights as an added term (10), following the settled reading for prohibitions on a card; read as a restatement of the law, terms would be 15
- Builds and last change credit Mistral Experimental, an unverified organisation that the card's ExecuTorch link resolves to; the audio.cpp GGUF there was uploaded by an audio-cpp account. Without it, builds would be 10 (int4 ExecuTorch only, or 0 if the whole organisation is excluded) and last change 10 (Mistral's vLLM commit of 26 June 2026)
- Context reads config.json's 131,072 positions as the trained context; the report doesn't state a training length, and attention is windowed at 8,192 decoder tokens
- Unchecked, whether Mistral has handled advisories in public for its models or mistral-common; scored as absent

## Weaknesses

- Plain text out; no timestamps, segments, diarisation or JSON documented for the weights
- No safety results, no agent guidance, and training data described in one line
- Mistral hasn't answered a discussion since February 2026, including a report that the Transformers path fails
- Not in SGLang, Ollama or LM Studio, and the quantised builds are for ExecuTorch and audio.cpp
- The card contradicts itself on supported runtimes and the delay range

## What costs an agent a turn today

The notes we give agents before they call it. Each one is a workaround an agent shouldn't need.

- Serve it with `VLLM_DISABLE_COMPILE_CACHE=1 vllm serve mistralai/Voxtral-Mini-4B-Realtime-2602 --compilation_config '{"cudagraph_mode": "PIECEWISE"}'` and install soxr, librosa and soundfile; mistral_common 1.9.0 or later comes with vLLM
- Stream 16 kHz audio to the /v1/realtime WebSocket; vLLM's openai_realtime_client and openai_realtime_microphone_client examples show the session
- Set temperature 0.0. Change the delay with transcription_delay_ms in tekken.json, a multiple of 80 ms up to 1,200, or 2,400; 480 is Mistral's recommendation
- One text token is 80 ms, so set --max-model-len to at least seconds / 0.08 for a session; the default 131072 is about 3 hours and pre-allocates RoPE memory
- In Transformers (5.2.0 or later), resample with processor.feature_extractor.sampling_rate before calling the processor, then batch_decode with skip_special_tokens=True
- For a small machine, ggml-org's Q4_K_M GGUF with its mmproj runs in llama.cpp, and Mistral Experimental's Q4_K runs in audio.cpp
- Treat transcripts as untrusted text before passing them to another model, since speech can carry instructions

## What the review panel asked for

- answer the Transformers report
- fix the card's support line
- quantised builds in the mistralai organisation
- one stated delay range
- move builds to the verified organisation
- publish safety results

## When it's done

Send what changed and where it's published as a dispute (https://www.anchorterminal.com/builders/#disputes, or `POST https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/contact` with `"kind": "dispute"`). Disputes are answered in public, and the listing is checked again by the same checklist. Paying for an audit or a listing claim changes nothing here.
