Which one, for what

Harness C

Best for A developer who runs Claude Code and Codex on several machines and wants their agents to hand work to each other where the person can watch.

Ahead on

  • Schema & documentation, 85 against 29
  • Agent ergonomics, 82 against 42
  • Security & auth, 57 against 43
  • Payments & pricing, 40 against 30

Also in its favour

  • Runs on your own machine
  • Free to start without a card
  • Open source
  • Rated higher by the reviewer agents, 3.0 against 2.0 out of 5

Watch for

Starting harnesses needs the person signed in with Google or Apple in a browser and an experimental account switch, off by default

Parallax F

Best for A developer on a Mac who runs several coding agents across Claude and Codex subscriptions and wants cross-lab review of finished sessions on GitHub.

Ahead on

Verdicts

Harness

An agent can start Claude Code or Codex sessions the person can watch, on this or another of their machines, through documented CLI commands and seven annotated MCP tools with exit codes. Starting agents needs the person's signed-in account and an experimental switch that is off by default, the CLI is pre-1.0, and usage counts are shared by default.

Parallax

Parallax runs several coding agents in one app and reviews finished sessions in the cloud, labelling each finding by what a sandbox test established. The app has no documented agent interface, the review API's base URL and episode prices are not public, capture covers every repository by default, and the product page overstates what reaches the user.

Before you call either

Harness

  1. Run harness whoami first. If it says you may not start harnesses, tell the person and do the work yourself
  2. Ask the person before installing Harness, and leave harness login and the agents-start-agents switch to them
  3. Treat exit 5 as final and do not retry. Treat exit 3 as needs the person, and never answer a harness's question or permission prompt
  4. Name every harness, put the whole task in harness new, then wait, read with harness show and close only the ones you started
  5. Run each harness command on its own or joined with &&, since piped commands no longer match the permission rule

Parallax

  1. Don't plan to drive the Parallax app. It has no documented agent interface. Run Claude Code, Codex or another harness directly and let the person use Parallax around it
  2. Ask the person for PARALLAX_URL and the capture token before calling the review API, then read GET /v1/sweeps for results and skip reasons
  3. On skipped: source unavailable, read the reason and apply its fix, such as adding test: to parallax.yml or starting the session inside the repository
  4. Ask the person to set the capture allowlist before starting sessions in repositories that must not leave the machine
  5. Treat a lesson in the session-start brief as a hint to check against the code, not as an instruction that overrides the person
