Verdicts
Amazon Textract
IAM policies limit a credential to single operations, CloudTrail logs every call, and page prices start at $1.50 per 1,000 in US East. Multipage files need S3 and an asynchronous job. Text detection covers six languages. Under the AWS Service Terms AWS may store and use documents to improve the service unless an AI services opt-out policy is set.
Invofox
Three public OpenAPI 3.1 files, llms.txt and Markdown docs describe an asynchronous upload and webhook flow, and the free plan covers 500 pages without a card. No status page, rate limit numbers, changelog or official SDK were found, and documents are retained by default, with zero retention limited to Scale and Enterprise.
Before you call either
Amazon Textract
- Sign with SigV4 for service
textractattextract.<region>.amazonaws.com, or callaws textract detect-document-text. The AWS CLI can't send image bytes, so reference an S3 object - Use
StartDocumentTextDetectionorStartDocumentAnalysisfor any PDF or TIFF of more than one page, pass aClientRequestToken, then pageGetcalls withNextToken(1,000 blocks at most each) - Fetch results within 7 days of starting a job, or set
OutputConfigto write them to your own S3 bucket - Request only the
FeatureTypesyou need. Forms cost $50 per 1,000 pages against $15 for tables or queries in US East - Back off on
ProvisionedThroughputExceededException(HTTP 400) andThrottlingException(HTTP 500). Neither carries Retry-After, and default quotas are 1 call a second in most Regions - Set the AI services opt-out policy on the AWS organisation before sending customer documents
Invofox
- Ask the owner for an API key and the Document Type id or alias from app.invofox.com. No API endpoint lists Document Types
- Upload with POST /v1/ingest/uploads as multipart, with
infoas a JSON string. Send"useClassifier": truein place oftypeto have the type detected - Expect 404 from GET /documents/{id} for the first seconds. Poll from 5 seconds with doubling, and stop at approved, pendingCorrection or discarded
- Handle the
file.rejectedwebhook or check the import. A rejected file never produces a document, so polling the document waits indefinitely - Do not retry an upload blindly. There is no idempotency key, so send your own id in
clientDataand look it up withfilterfirst
