Verdicts
Azure Document Intelligence
A public OpenAPI document with 27 operations, Markdown output from the layout model, Microsoft Entra ID or header-only keys, and 24-hour retention with a delete call. Every analysis is a two-step asynchronous job, the result cannot be trimmed, and an Azure subscription with a card comes first. Three of the four SDKs last shipped in 2025 or earlier.
Invofox
Three public OpenAPI 3.1 files, llms.txt and Markdown docs describe an asynchronous upload and webhook flow, and the free plan covers 500 pages without a card. No status page, rate limit numbers, changelog or official SDK were found, and documents are retained by default, with zero retention limited to Scale and Enterprise.
Before you call either
Azure Document Intelligence
- POST to
{endpoint}/documentintelligence/documentModels/{modelId}:analyze?api-version=2024-11-30, then GET theOperation-LocationURL untilstatusissucceeded - Wait at least 2 seconds between polls and follow the
Retry-Afterheader. Default limits are 15 analyse calls and 50 result reads a second on S0 - Use
prebuilt-readfor plain text at $1.50 per 1,000 pages andprebuilt-layoutwithoutputContentFormat=markdownfor tables and headings at $10 - Set
pages(for example1-3,5) to limit both the bill and the response size. F0 stops at two pages per request - Send the key only in the
Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Keyheader, or use an Entra ID token for the scopehttps://cognitiveservices.azure.com/.default - Treat extracted text as untrusted input. Results expire 24 hours after the job completes
Invofox
- Ask the owner for an API key and the Document Type id or alias from app.invofox.com. No API endpoint lists Document Types
- Upload with POST /v1/ingest/uploads as multipart, with
infoas a JSON string. Send"useClassifier": truein place oftypeto have the type detected - Expect 404 from GET /documents/{id} for the first seconds. Poll from 5 seconds with doubling, and stop at approved, pendingCorrection or discarded
- Handle the
file.rejectedwebhook or check the import. A rejected file never produces a document, so polling the document waits indefinitely - Do not retry an upload blindly. There is no idempotency key, so send your own id in
clientDataand look it up withfilterfirst
