by PetaBytes, Inc. HTTP API in Translation
PetaBytes, Inc. · translateplus.io since 2023 · status page · who's behind it
TranslatePlus is a machine translation API from PetaBytes, Inc. for text, batches, HTML, emails, subtitles and i18n files in more than 100 languages, with language detection, priced per request.
Best for Low-cost per-request translation of short strings, HTML, emails, subtitles and i18n files for small projects.
Viewed under 500 times in the last 30 days · Claim it, free, to see who finds it
Is this your product? Claim it to see how agents find it: lookups through the API, MCP and letme, the comparisons it's in, and what people search for in Translation. Free, and it never changes the grade. Or verify it, or log in if it's already claimed.
Assessment. TranslatePlus has a simple key-in-header REST API with per-request prices from $0.0001, a 5,000-request free plan, batch, HTML, subtitle and i18n endpoints and documented 429 handling. Its changelog and SDKs haven't changed since January 2026 or earlier, the status page is stale, and llms.txt promises an SLA the terms disclaim.

Strengths
- Per-request prices published, $0.001 after the free tier and down to $0.0001 on the $299 plan
- Free plan of 5,000 requests a month
- Endpoints for batch, HTML, email, subtitle and i18n file translation plus language detection
- 429 responses with X-RateLimit headers and a documented wait-for-reset pattern
- Key sent in the X-API-KEY header, never the URL
Weaknesses
- llms.txt claims a 99.9% uptime SLA and SOC 2 Type II, while the terms disclaim any uptime guarantee and no audit is named
- The changelog stops at December 2024 and the SDKs at January 2026
- The status page showed 'All systems unknown' and a last update of 22 January 2026
- One account key with full access, no scopes
- The terms name PetaBytes, Inc. but no address or governing law
Before you call it notes for agents
- Send the key as X-API-KEY; there is no read-only or scoped key
- Use /v2/translate/batch for up to 100 texts instead of looping single calls
- Keep each text under the plan's per-request character limit (500 on Free, up to 2,000 on Mega)
- On 429 wait until X-RateLimit-Reset, then retry a few times at most
- Don't rely on an SLA; the terms don't guarantee uptime

A reading by a fixed set of rules, each answered with the vendor's own sentence. It isn't legal advice, a rule can miss a clause or misread one, and the document itself is what binds. How it's read and scored.
The terms (last updated 18 December 2024) and the about page name PetaBytes, Inc., a US-based corporation, as operator and billing party. No address, state of incorporation or governing law is given.
The home page names no legal entity, as the sweep noted; the terms and about page do.

Researched 6 November 2026 from public pages. The about page and terms of service, read on 6 November 2026, say TranslatePlus is operated by PetaBytes, Inc., a US-based company, but name no founders, officers or staff. PetaBytes' own site (petabytes.pages.dev) lists TranslatePlus among its products with CaptureAPI, PetCarely and AI Contract Generator and says Peta Bytes, Inc. is a US-registered company, but names no people either. One search found only Product Hunt and directory pages; the Product Hunt pages name who submitted the product, not a founder, so no person is listed. No investors are named on any of these pages. Shown for information, not part of the grade yet. People's accounts link to their own profiles; check them before you rely on one.

Score breakdown methodology v0.7 · October 2026 research run
Assessed on 6 November 2026 from public evidence, against the published checklist. Confidence medium. Performance and Task success are pending until our probes and task suites run, so the total is over the 7 assessed categories, each weight divided by 80.

No incident history to read (5). The rate-limits guide gives 100,000 requests a minute and 100,000,000 an hour per key, while llms.txt gives 50 requests a second on the Free plan, so limits are published but inconsistent (10). 429 returns a JSON detail message, responses carry X-RateLimit-Limit, -Remaining and -Reset, and the guide shows waiting for the reset with capped retries (15). No SLA. The terms say TranslatePlus strives for 99.9% uptime 'but do not guarantee uninterrupted service' (0). API v2 is the current, non-beta version (10). 5+5+10+15+0+10 = 45. | |||

Everything this grade says the listing lacks, from the reasons above, the checklist, the provenance checks, the deductions, what we couldn't check and what the review panel asked for, with the steps, ready to paste into a coding agent working on TranslatePlus. What we couldn't check
- The rate limit is 100,000 requests a minute in the docs guide and 50 requests a second on the Free plan in llms.txt
- unchecked: the SOC 2 Type II and GDPR claims in llms.txt, which name no report, auditor or DPA
- unchecked: whether the free plan needs a card
