Verdicts

Resend API + MCP

Idempotency-Key on POST /emails and /emails/batch, kept for 24 hours. 106 MCP tools load at once, with no toolsets.

Twilio SendGrid

Restricted API keys with per-endpoint scopes, subuser keys and IP access management. No official MCP server that can send, only Twilio's docs search.

Before you call either

Resend API + MCP

  1. Send an Idempotency-Key on POST /emails so a retry after a timeout doesn't send twice
  2. Send a User-Agent header on raw HTTP calls or you'll get a 403
  3. Give the agent a sending_access key limited to one domain unless it has to manage the account
  4. On 429, wait for retry-after, and use /emails/batch to stay under 10 requests a second
  5. Verify a domain before sending to anyone but your own address

Twilio SendGrid

  1. Give an agent that only sends a restricted key with just mail.send
  2. Set mail_settings.sandbox_mode to validate payloads without delivery
  3. Authenticate a domain or verify a single sender before the first send
  4. Read X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset and wait for the reset on 429
  5. Don't blindly retry a timed-out mail/send. There's no idempotency key, so the message can go out twice
