Which one, for what
Best for Python teams that want typed, validated outputs and tools, many model providers and durable runs on an engine they already use.
Ahead on
- Reliability, 83 against 67
- Schema & documentation, 100 against 61
- Agent ergonomics, 95 against 61
- Security & auth, 95 against 62
- Maintenance & community, 90 against 82
- Transparency & trust, 85 against 68
Also in its favour
- Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better
- No key needed to call it
Watch for
Python only, and 3.11 or newer since 2.55.0
Best for Researchers who want a fixed multi-agent analysis of one listed instrument or crypto pair on a date, with point-in-time data for backtests, and who will run Python.
Also in its favour
- No incidents deducted, where Pydantic AI loses 6 points for them
Watch for
No MCP client or MCP server, so an agent drives it only through Python or the CLI

Verdicts
Pydantic AI
Typed outputs and tools, validated by Pydantic, with failed validations sent back to the model. Python only.
TradingAgents
An Apache 2.0 LangGraph framework at 0.7.0 with six releases in 90 days, a dated changelog with upgrade notes, a public test matrix and point-in-time rules for historical runs. It has no MCP client or server, no PyPI package and no documentation beyond the README, and its output is a model-written rating that places no orders.
Before you call either
Pydantic AI
- Define the output type first. Validation retries fix most malformed answers without a prompt change, and the test model checks the wiring with no key
- Use streamable HTTP for MCP, since SSE is deprecated. Call
.defer_loading()on large MCP servers so their tools stay out of context until searched - Set usage limits on every run that calls paid models
- Give model-run commands
LocalWorkspace(read_only=True)or a Harness sandbox. A plainLocalWorkspaceruns them on your machine as you - Stay on 2.53.0 or later. 2026 advisories hit URL downloads, the cloud-metadata blocklist, the local web chat UI and streamed requests under a shared concurrency limiter
TradingAgents
- Run headless with
tradingagents --ticker <T> --date <YYYY-MM-DD> --analysts market, news, fundamentals --save --no-show; a missing answer stops the run and names the flag - Guard on the REVIEW signal before mapping
propagate()'s decision to a rating; it means no rating could be parsed - Set SEC_EDGAR_USER_AGENT to the operator's own name and address before fetching US fundamentals
- Keep provider keys out of the working directory tree unless intended, since the package loads the nearest .env on import
- Treat the rating as model output for research; the framework places no orders and its results vary between runs
