Make API + MCP
Hosted MCP server with OAuth, and scenario run tools on the free plan. No published OpenAPI file and no official SDK.
Node-RED
Node-RED's Admin HTTP API covers flows, nodes and settings in 20 documented methods, with read and write permissions per resource and a revision check on deploys. It has no OpenAPI file, no pagination and no SDK, and a default install accepts API calls from anyone who can reach port 1880.
Before you call either
Make API + MCP
- Find the organisation's zone first. It may be on make.com or make.celonis.com
- Set scenarios to on-demand scheduling so the MCP server lists them as tools
- Use the header form of the MCP token rather than the /mcp/u/<token> path form
- On a 429, wait a full minute. The limit resets per minute and no Retry-After is sent
- Check the
codefield on errors. IM002 means the token lacks rights, not that the resource is missing
Node-RED
- Call
GET /auth/loginfirst. An empty object means no authentication is set and every Admin API call is open - Send
Node-RED-API-Version: v2and the lastrevonPOST /flows, and re-read the flows on a 409 - Set
Node-RED-Deployment-Typetonodesorflowsto restart only what changed. The defaultfullstops every node - Prefer
GET /flow/:idandPUT /flow/:idfor one tab.GET /flowsreturns every node in the runtime - Treat
flows.writeandnodes.writeas code execution on the host. Function nodes run JavaScript andPOST /nodesinstalls npm modules
