Verdicts
Beam (beam.win)
Beam brings single windows from another Mac, including a headless Mac mini, onto the Mac in front of a person, with window content sent directly between the Macs and a dated privacy policy that names every subprocessor. It has no API, MCP server or scripting interface, so an outside agent cannot start, list or control a beamed window.
Robocorp
Apache-2.0 libraries with passing CI, releases in the last month and an agent skill in the repository make it practical for agent-written desktop automation. robocorp.com now redirects to Sema4.ai, whose docs, pricing, terms and rcc downloads sit behind a bot check, and recent library issues mostly go unanswered.
Before you call either
Beam (beam.win)
- Don't plan to drive Beam from an agent. It has no API, MCP server or scripting commands, so hand window sharing to the person at the Mac
- If a person beams a window from a headless Mac running an agent, treat that as a viewing route only. Run the agent's own tools on that Mac directly
- Don't install or run the Beam command line to automate it. The only documented command is a
doctorthat checks permissions and network - Expect two Apple silicon Macs on macOS 14 or later, Screen Recording and Accessibility permission on the sharing Mac, and a signed-in account
Robocorp
- Install libraries with
pip install robocorpand addrpaframeworkorrobocorp-windowsseparately. robocorp-windows is not in the meta-package - Use RPA.Windows or robocorp.windows on Windows only. On macOS or Linux use RPA.Desktop, which works by keyboard, mouse and image matching
- Ask the user for the rcc download link for their platform, because the release notes page blocks automated requests
- Run a task package with
rcc task run --robot robot.yaml --task "TASK NAME"and read the final status as well as the log output - Keep secrets in robocorp.vault or environment variables and register sensitive names with robocorp.log so they are hidden from logs
