Gradium Voice Cloning and Voice Design

by Gradium SAS Model API in Voice cloning & custom voices

Hosted

Gradium SAS · gradium.ai since 2025 · status page · who's behind it

Gradium's voice API creates a custom voice from an uploaded audio sample of about 10 seconds, or designs one from a written description, for its text-to-speech models in English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

Best for Builders on Gradium's TTS who want instant clones and designed voices in five European languages with EU residency.

Is this your product? Claim it to see how agents find it: lookups through the API, MCP and letme, the comparisons it's in, and what people search for in Cloning. Free, and it never changes the grade. Or verify it, or log in if it's already claimed.

Assessment. A public OpenAPI file, dated release notes and a free plan with five custom voices and no card make Gradium's clone and design endpoints easy to adopt. The Terms let Gradium train on customer data, zero data retention excludes voice samples, and there's no consent field, rate-limit guidance or SLA.

Surface listed
The voice endpoints of the Gradium API at api.gradium.ai (POST /api/voices/ and the voice-generator routes), read from docs.gradium.ai, its OpenAPI file, the pricing, terms, privacy and press pages on gradium.ai and gradium.statuspage.io on 6 November 2026. No account was made and no call was sent
Sample length
About 10 seconds recommended for an instant clone, with start_s to pick where sampling starts. Pro voice clones need 30 minutes or more and are on the M and L plans
Endpoints
POST /voices/ (multipart clone), GET /voices/ with skip, limit, locale, gender, use_case and include_catalog, GET, PUT and DELETE /voices/{voice_uid}, plus voice-generator/generate, embeddings, enhance and localize
Voice design
POST /voice-generator/generate returns 1 to 5 candidates from a 1 to 500 character description. Candidates are kept 30 days and one is saved with POST /voices/from-embedding
Languages
en, fr, de, es and pt, required on the clone request and used as the source language for localisation
Consent and verification
No consent or verification field in the API. The Terms make the client obtain any consent needed for a voice sample and bar impersonation without explicit authorisation. The API reference FAQ says explicit consent from the voice owner is required. No watermark found
Custom voices per plan
Free 5, XS to L 1,000, Enterprise unlimited, shared by clones and designed voices. Pro voice clones 5 on M and 20 on L
Concurrency
TTS sessions 2 (free), 5, 5, 10 and 15 by plan per the pricing page. The limits page says to ask support for exact limits
Regions
EU and US API hosts (eu.api.gradium.ai, us.api.gradium.ai), with data residency from the XS plan

Strengths

  • Public OpenAPI 3.1 file covering cloning, voice design, enhancement and localisation
  • Free plan with 45,000 credits a month, 5 custom voices and no card required
  • Voice Design returns 1 to 5 candidates from a description, kept 30 days until one is saved
  • SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 audited by A-LIGN, with EU and US data residency
  • Release notes dated per entry, the newest on 6 November 2026

Weaknesses

  • The Terms grant Gradium a licence to train its models on Client Data, and zero data retention excludes voice samples
  • No consent or verification field in the clone API, and no watermark found
  • No 429, Retry-After or backoff guidance, and no SLA
  • Synthesis errors come back as plain-text HTTP 500 bodies to parse
  • Commercial use needs a paid plan, and only a Python SDK is published

Before you call it notes for agents

  1. Send language on every clone. It's required and must be one of en, fr, de, es or pt and match the recording
  2. Clones are enhanced by default since 23 October 2026. Pass enhance=false to keep the raw voice, then check enhance on GET
  3. Pass a clone as voice_id in TTS, not voice
  4. On a non-2xx synthesis reply, parse the error from server <code> prefix; 1008 means a bad or revoked key
  5. Check the custom-voice allowance first. The free plan holds 5 voices shared by clones and designs

The Terms of Service, version of 19 October 2026, are with Gradium SAS, Paris trade register 989 284 955. They bar robots, spiders and scrapers on the services without written consent, recorded as a fact; robots.txt on gradium.ai allows ClaudeBot and anthropic-ai, and docs.gradium.ai sets Content-Signal: ai-train=yes, search=yes, ai-input=yes.

gradium.statuspage.io is an Atlassian Statuspage with a Voice Cloning component. Its robots.txt disallows /api/, so history was read from /history and the RSS feed.

gradium.ai/.well-known/security.txt returns 404. The security page names security@gradium.ai and a trust centre at trust.gradium.ai.

RDAP gives gradium.ai a registration date of 4 March 2025. firstReleased is the public launch on 2 December 2025 per the press page.

Key people

Researched 6 November 2026 from public pages. Gradium's funding post of 8 July 2026 names Neil Zeghidour, Laurent Mazaré, Olivier Teboul and Alexandre Défossez as founders, the researchers behind Kyutai, and quotes Neil Zeghidour as Co-Founder and CEO. The other founders' present roles aren't stated on the pages read. No personal accounts are linked from Gradium's pages, so none are listed. Investors come from Gradium's launch press release of 2 December 2025 (a $70 million seed round led by FirstMark Capital and Eurazeo) and the 8 July 2026 post, which says a seed extension brought funding to $100 million and names NVIDIA among new investors without listing the others. Individuals named in the launch release (Eric Schmidt, Xavier Niel, Rodolphe Saadé) are angels named first-hand. No valuation is given in Gradium's July 2026 post or its December 2025 release, and a web search on 6 November 2026 found no stated valuation (Sifted's report of the extension sits behind a bot check and wasn't read), so valuation is left out. Shown for information, not part of the grade yet. People's accounts link to their own profiles; check them before you rely on one.

Score breakdown methodology v0.7 · October 2026 research run

Assessed on 6 November 2026 from public evidence, against the published checklist. Confidence medium. Performance and Task success are pending until our probes and task suites run, so the total is over the 7 assessed categories, each weight divided by 80.

Graded on the hosted voice API with the hosted lines. Atlassian Statuspage at gradium.statuspage.io with five components, one of them Voice Cloning (20). History and the RSS feed, read on 6 November, show no incident in the 90 days from 8 August. The page has posted one real incident since May 2026 (a DNS issue on 15 June) beside a leftover example incident, so the quiet window is read as minor-only rather than clean, as for tldv (20). Concurrency is published per plan on the pricing page (2 to 15 TTS sessions), while the limits page says to ask support and no limit for voice creation was found (10 of 15). No 429, Retry-After or backoff guidance was found; the errors page says to open a new connection after an error, and voice creation takes a timeout_s (3 of 15). No SLA in the Terms or on the pricing page (0). Instant cloning carries no beta label (10). 20+20+10+3+0+10 = 63.

Public OpenAPI 3.1 file at docs.gradium.ai/api-reference/openapi.json (25). llms.txt and Markdown pages (10). The guides say when to clone, design, enhance or localise a voice, and the custom-voice page explains the enhancement default and how to opt out (14 of 20). The clone body has audio_file, name and language required, a five-value language enum and typed defaults for start_s, enhance and timeout_s (14 of 15). curl and Python examples. The create call documents only 201 and 422, and the errors page covers synthesis, with plain-text 500 bodies (9 of 15). Routes carry no version, the OpenAPI file is 0.1.0, and release notes are dated per entry, newest 6 November 2026 (11 of 15). The API reference FAQ gives a 300-second session where the limits page says 3,000. 25+10+14+14+9+11 = 83.

Voice objects are compact metadata (20 of 25). GET /voices/ takes skip and limit (default 100) and since 23 October filters by locale, gender and use_case (20). Validation errors are structured 422 bodies, while synthesis errors arrive as plain-text HTTP 500 with a numeric code to parse (12 of 20). No idempotency key. Saving a design candidate twice answers 409, and the clone call has none (5 of 20). Three required fields with sensible defaults, and one official SDK, in Python (10 of 15). 20+20+12+5+10 = 67.

Graded for voice cloning as the other listings in this category, with consent and misuse controls in place of the read-only line and training and retention of voice data in place of the prompt-injection line. API keys per organisation in a header, revocable and able to expire, with no scopes found (20 of 30). No consent or verification field and no watermark. The Terms make the client obtain the consent of anyone whose voice is a sample and bar impersonation without explicit authorisation, and the API FAQ says explicit consent is required (6 of 20). The Terms grant Gradium a licence to use Client Data to improve its services and train its models, with no opt-out found, and zero data retention (paid plans) excludes voice samples, so samples are kept and may be used for training (2 of 15). Organisation roles and a member list, with no per-call audit log found (5 of 15). SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 audited by A-LIGN, a trust centre and security@gradium.ai. 1. Graded 60.8 C methodology v0.7

Fix list 18 items, the biggest gain first

Everything this grade says the listing lacks, from the reasons above, the checklist, the provenance checks, the deductions, what we couldn't check and what the review panel asked for, with the steps, ready to paste into a coding agent working on Gradium Voice Cloning and Voice Design. A fix counts at the next check, once it's public.

What we couldn't check

  • unchecked: the trust centre at trust.gradium.ai for the sub-processor list and retention periods
  • unchecked: whether there's any opt-out from training on Client Data outside Enterprise agreements. None was found in the Terms or docs
  • unchecked: a rate limit for voice creation and design, and the maximum sample length
  • The API reference FAQ gives a 300-second session, while the limits page says 3,000 seconds
  • One request to gradium.statuspage.io/api/v2 was sent before its robots.txt (which disallows /api/) was read. Its result isn't used; history comes from /history and the RSS feed
  • One request went to pypi.org/pypi/gradium/json, a path PyPI's robots.txt disallows, before robots.txt was read. The release dates used here were re-read from the allowed feed at pypi.org/rss/project/gradium/releases.xml, which agrees, and the SDK repository link comes from gradium.ai's GitHub organisation link

Agents send the same to POST /api/v1/verify as {"slug": "gradium-voice-cloning", "url": "…"}, or call the verify_listing tool at /mcp. Ten checks an hour from one address. What we check. To announce the listing, get sharing assets for social media.

For companies

Do agents find, use and choose your tools?

An agent-readiness audit runs our probes, task suite and eight reviewer agents against your public and internal tools, and comes back with a scorecard, the transcripts of what failed, and a fix list in priority order. From $2,500, re-run included. We never take payment to move a rank. We do help companies earn one.
