Alexander Rey created and develops Pirate Weather, an open weather API he built as an alternative to the Dark Sky API after its shutdown was announced. He holds a PhD in coastal engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where his research focused on forecasting coastal impacts from tropical storms.
