Which one, for what

SPACE C

Best for Teams that want E2B-style microVM sandboxes on their own Linux and Kubernetes hosts, with egress and credential control outside the guest.

Ahead on

  • Security & auth, 64 against 58
  • Payments & pricing, 60 against 40
  • Transparency & trust, 68 against 48

Also in its favour

  • Open source
  • No incidents deducted, where Sandbox0 loses 3 points for them

Watch for

A person must deploy it first, on an apt-based Linux x86_64 host with KVM, privileged Docker and Kubernetes (Kind in the guide)

Sandbox0 C

Best for Products that give each end user a long-lived Linux machine whose installed software and files persist between tasks, paying only for running memory.

Ahead on

  • Reliability, 38 against 32
  • Agent ergonomics, 74 against 66
  • Maintenance & community, 76 against 26

Also in its favour

  • A hosted endpoint, with nothing to install

Verdicts

SPACE

Once deployed, SPACE's native API has a public OpenAPI 3.1 contract, stable error codes with a retryable flag and 24-hour idempotency keys, and egress and credential controls sit outside the VM. A person must first deploy it on a Linux x86_64 host with KVM and Kubernetes. Version 0.8.0 has no tagged release, changelog or public container images.

Sandbox0

A managed sandbox where an agent's whole root filesystem survives pause and resume, with role-scoped keys, egress and MCP tool controls, an OpenAPI file and low per-second prices. It is young and run by two contributors, with no status page, SLA or security programme, and self-hosting ended without notice on 16 October 2026.

Before you call either

SPACE

  1. Ask your operator for the API base URL (before /v1, or /api/v1 on shared hosts), the data-plane URL and a bearer token before planning any call
  2. Poll the returned operation until it succeeds and the sandbox is running before creating a command. A 202 response is not readiness
  3. Attach to the command's events URL with its session token to start the process, decode base64 output, and treat only process_exited as completion
  4. Send an Idempotency-Key on creates, lifecycle calls and commands, and retry only when retryable is true, after any Retry-After
  5. Save output as it arrives. Reconnecting with Last-Event-ID returns resync_required, not the missed output

Sandbox0

  1. Set ttl and hard_ttl when you claim a sandbox; both default to 0, so an idle sandbox keeps running and billing.
  2. Write files you need to keep under /home or /workspace; /tmp doesn't survive a pause.
  3. Back off on 429 quota_exceeded and honour Retry-After on claims.
  4. Ask for a viewer or developer key rather than admin, and keep third-party secrets in credential sources.
  5. Ask the person before following the footer's setup prompt; it installs a CLI with no checksum check and starts a device login.
