Why the edge

Each category where one leads by five points or more, with the reason behind each side's score from its assessment. The numbers are in the table below; this is what they stand for.

Agent ergonomics Robolly +30

DynaPictures 45

The MCP tool definitions weren't read (listing them needs a session), and llms.txt describes groups that include layer-by-layer design authoring, so the count is unknown. REST responses are small objects with image URLs (12 of 25). Template and generated-image listings, with no field selection documented (10 of 20). Errors are JSON with a message and documented statuses, without codes (12 of 20). Requests aren't idempotent, by the vendor's own note, though identical image URLs are served from cache without a credit (6 of 20). An Editor SDK for embedding the editor, and no API client SDKs (5 of 15). 12 + 10 + 12 + 6 + 5 = 45.

Robolly 75

Nine MCP tools (25). The renders list pages with a cursor, and templates are found by name (14 of 20). Errors carry errorCode and developerMessage with eight documented codes (17 of 20). Identical renders are cached for 45 days, so repeats are free and safe, the MCP server has no delete tool, and annotations couldn't be read on the closed server (12 of 20). Renders return the file synchronously by default, but there's no SDK (7 of 15). 25 + 14 + 17 + 12 + 7 = 75.

Schema & documentation DynaPictures +25

DynaPictures 82

OpenAPI 3.1 at dynapictures.com/openapi.json with 20 paths (25). llms.txt, auth.md and an agent skill in Markdown (10). llms.txt says when to use the product and when it's a poor fit, and the skill gives call order for each job (17 of 20). Enums for formats and options, with layer overrides keyed by layer name (12 of 15). Request examples throughout and a status table in the skill, but the API reference's Errors section is unedited Slate template text about kittens (9 of 15). No URL version, additive changes, removals announced six months ahead with Deprecation and Sunset headers, and no changelog (9 of 15). 25 + 10 + 17 + 12 + 9 + 9 = 82.

Robolly 57

No OpenAPI or other machine-readable contract found for the REST API, and the MCP server is closed. The MCP page lists all nine tools and get_template_modifications returns each template's keys, constraints and examples at run time (8 of 25, on that partial evidence). llms.txt indexes the docs (10). The MCP page says what each tool does, which tools change templates or spend credits, and that there is no delete tool (14 of 20). Modification keys follow {element-name}.{modification-key} with constraints from the template rather than a fixed schema (7 of 15). Request examples throughout and an error code table with eight codes (13 of 15). /v1 paths with no changelog (5 of 15). 8 + 10 + 14 + 7 + 13 + 5 = 57.

Security & auth Robolly +21

DynaPictures 26

One API key per user with the user's full access, not limited to workspaces or actions; a new key is requested by email to support, with no rotation in the account (10 of 30). No read-only mode, and the MCP server can author and change designs (3 of 20). Tools return the account's own templates and renders; image layers accept outside URLs (10 of 15). A list of generated images, with no audit log documented (3 of 15). No security.txt, disclosure policy, bug bounty or certification found (0). 10 + 3 + 10 + 3 + 0 = 26.

Robolly 47

Bearer API key, signed render links, and MCP OAuth with one robolly:mcp scope limited to the organisation the user approves. Connections are listed and revoked under Connected AI Tools, and the API key is never shared with an OAuth client. No key scopes or rotation documented (22 of 30). The MCP server can create and update templates but not delete them; there's no read-only mode (10 of 20). Tools return the user's templates and public gallery designs (10 of 15). A renders list and the connected-tools view give some visibility, with no audit log documented (5 of 15). No security.txt (the path returns the site's HTML shell), disclosure policy, bug bounty or certification (0). 22 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 0 = 47.

Transparency & trust DynaPictures +14

DynaPictures 63

Closed service under terms (revision 2/2026) from DynaPictures GmbH in Freiburg, for business customers (15). The privacy policy names the controller, keeps generated images as long as needed or until deleted, gives plan image retention (3 months on Lite), and says the named AI providers don't train on API inputs under their API terms; other periods follow bookkeeping law (20 of 30). The OpenAPI file commits to six months' notice before removing an endpoint or field, with Deprecation and Sunset headers (16 of 20). AI sub-processors named with addresses (OpenAI, Google, Black Forest Labs, Replicate) and FastSpring for payments, while hosting providers aren't named (12 of 20). 15 + 20 + 16 + 12 = 63.

Robolly 49

Closed service under terms effective 8 April 2026 from Avantis Innovations LLC in Wyoming. The terms can change without notice (15). The privacy policy of the same date covers Google sign-in and Sheets data, says spreadsheet rows aren't kept beyond a render and account data is deleted with the account, and otherwise names no periods (10 of 30). No deprecation policy or notices (0). Hosting is described only as third-party vendors, with no processors or locations named, while the footer says Made in EU (2 of 20). 15 + 10 + 0 + 2 = 27.

Reliability Robolly +6

DynaPictures 42

Hosted lines. No status page found in the docs, llms.txt or footer (0). No readable incident history (5). The monthly image quota is reported in RateLimit headers on generation, but no per-second or per-minute limit is published (5 of 15). The agent skill gives a status table with what to do for each, GET /links sends Retry-After on 503, and the docs warn that generation isn't idempotent and to check before retrying a 504 (12 of 15). The terms guarantee 94 per cent annual availability, a low figure but a published SLA (10). Nothing is labelled beta (10). 0 + 5 + 5 + 12 + 10 + 10 = 42.

Robolly 48

Hosted lines. The footer links an UptimeRobot status page, but it loads its figures from /api/, which stats.uptimerobot.com's robots.txt disallows, so the page showed no monitors or history (10 of 20 for a page that exists) and no history was read (5). A hard limit of 3 renders a second is published (15). The rate-limit error code and advice to send renders one at a time, and identical renders are cached for 45 days at no cost, which makes a retry safe; there's no Retry-After or backoff interval (8 of 15). No SLA found (0). The API isn't labelled beta (10). 10 + 5 + 15 + 8 + 0 + 10 = 48.

Payments & pricing Robolly +5

DynaPictures 30

No x402, MPP or L402 (0). Image allowances per plan and AI credit packs ($20 for 1,000 credits) are public, but plan prices are filled in by the FastSpring script and weren't readable (10 of 20). Free plan and a 14-day trial with 30 API credits, no card (20). auth.md says a person has to copy the key; there is no OAuth or programmatic key (0). 0 + 10 + 20 + 0 = 30.

Robolly 35

No x402, MPP or L402 (0). Plan prices are public and a table gives the credit cost of each format and size (15 of 20). 7-day trial with no card (20). A person signs up, then copies the key or approves OAuth (0). 0 + 15 + 20 + 0 = 35.

Verdicts

DynaPictures

An OpenAPI 3.1 file, an agent skill and a six-month removal notice with Sunset headers make DynaPictures' template rendering easy to plan around, with a free plan and no-card trial. The single API key opens the whole account, requests aren't idempotent, and no changelog, status page or dated release was found.

Robolly

Robolly's nine MCP tools, synchronous renders, typed error codes and free cached re-renders keep template rendering cheap and predictable for an agent, and OAuth connections can be revoked per client. There is no OpenAPI file, changelog or dated release, and API access starts at $39 a month after a 7-day trial.

Before you call either

DynaPictures

  1. Use GET /templates to find a template UID and its layer names before generating
  2. Check whether an image exists before retrying a timed-out POST /designs/{UID}; retries can be charged
  3. Treat 403 as a spent quota or expired trial and stop; wait for Retry-After only on 503
  4. Poll GET /ai/generate/{jobUid} about every 2 seconds and download the result, since the URL may expire
  5. Keep the API key out of image URLs; use signed or public links for embedding

Robolly

  1. Call get_template_modifications before render to learn the keys a template accepts
  2. Send renders one at a time; the API refuses more than 3 a second with rate-limit
  3. Repeat an identical render freely; it is cached for 45 days and costs nothing
  4. Poll get_render after render_video, since video renders are queued
  5. Stop on render-limit-exhausted and tell the user the monthly credits are spent
