Verdicts

Azure DevOps MCP Server

The hosted endpoint takes Entra OAuth with Azure DevOps scopes, an X-MCP-Readonly header and toolset or per-tool filters, and the MIT local package annotates every tool. The remote server is still labelled public preview, and Claude Code and Cursor need a custom Entra app registration with admin consent before they can use it.

Salesforce DX MCP Server

Tools pass org usernames, never tokens, and --orgs limits which authorised orgs the server can reach. 88 tools; Salesforce's README warns that enabling all of them overwhelms the context.

Before you call either

Azure DevOps MCP Server

  1. Put the organisation in the URL (https://mcp.dev.azure.com/{organization}). Without it every call must name the organisation, and guest users can't connect at all
  2. Send X-MCP-Readonly: true for read tasks and X-MCP-Toolsets: repos, wit to cut the tool list. Don't combine X-MCP-Toolsets with X-MCP-Tools
  3. Name the project in each call. A missing project is the error the vendor reports most often
  4. For headless runs use the local package with --authentication envvar and a token in ADO_MCP_AUTH_TOKEN. The default interactive sign-in fails without a browser
  5. On HTTP 429 wait for Retry-After. Azure DevOps delays or blocks a user above 200 TSTUs in a sliding five-minute window

Salesforce DX MCP Server

  1. Start with --toolsets orgs, metadata, data and add testing or devops only when the task needs them
  2. Pass explicit aliases to --orgs; DEFAULT_TARGET_ORG follows whatever the default org is in the working directory at call time
  3. Call get_username before any org tool instead of guessing usernameOrAlias, and send directory as an absolute path
  4. Put LIMIT in every SOQL query; the tool doesn't cap rows
  5. For business records like contacts or opportunities this is the wrong server; use the platform APIs behind an integration user
