## Overview
**Grade E · 44.6/100 · rank #404 of 452 · #8 in File storage & sharing · not agent-ready · confidence medium**
## Assessment
No egress fees, and one endpoint (t3.storage.dev) with region auto for every location. 16 status incidents between 4 July and 2 October 2026, including outages in US regions on 31 July and 2 August.
## Facts
| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Vendor | Tigris Data (https://www.tigrisdata.com) |
| Kind | HTTP API |
| Category | File storage & sharing (https://www.anchorterminal.com/categories/file-storage) |
| Transport | HTTP, Streamable HTTP, stdio |
| Endpoint | `https://t3.storage.dev` |
| Auth | OAuth or key · The S3 API takes SigV4 with an access key created in the console or the IAM API (ID starts `tid_`, secret starts `tsec_`) and region `auto`. Keys can be scoped per bucket with ReadOnly, ReadWrite or Editor roles and IAM policies, and revoked or rotated. AssumeRole, STS and temporary credentials aren't supported, so every key lives until revoked. The hosted MCP server signs in with OAuth; the stdio server reads AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID, AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY and AWS_ENDPOINT_URL_S3, or an AWS CLI profile. |
| Pricing | Freemium ($0.005 / 1k req) · Free every month, 5 GB of Standard storage, 10,000 PUT, COPY, POST and LIST requests and 100,000 GET, SELECT and other requests. Beyond that, Standard $0.02 a GB-month, Infrequent Access $0.01 (30-day minimum, $0.01 a GB retrieval), Archive and Archive Instant Retrieval $0.004 (90-day minimum, $0.03 a GB instant retrieval). Class A requests $0.005 per 1,000, Class B $0.0005 per 1,000, deletes free, object notifications $0.01 per 1,000 events. Egress is free in every tier and region. Storage is metered on the average daily peak over the month (https://www.tigrisdata.com/pricing/). |

## Score breakdown (methodology v0.3, October 2026 research run)
Assessed 2026-10-01 from public evidence against the published checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist). Confidence: medium. Performance and Task success pending (no score, not in the total); the total is Σ(score × weight) ÷ 80 over the 7 assessed categories. "This run" is each category's share of the 100 points.

### Why each score
- Reliability 35: Status page on incident.io with an RSS feed and per-region uptime (20). 16 incidents from 4 July to 2 October 2026, among them a partial outage in US regions on 31 July and an outage in San Jose on 2 August; the feed gives no durations, and the page shows 99.78 per cent for North America (5). No rate limits found in the docs or their llms.txt (0). No error-handling or retry guidance found (0). No SLA found (0). The S3 API is GA (10).
- Performance: Pending. Latency is measured per call by our probes, which haven't run yet, so this run doesn't score it. Its weight is shared across the assessed categories until the first probe window closes.
- Schema & documentation 50: No OpenAPI. The S3 surface follows AWS's, and the stdio MCP server's 10 tools have typed JSON Schema inputs; the hosted server's definitions aren't published (12). llms.txt with 250-odd Markdown pages (10). The stdio tool descriptions are one line, 'List all objects in a buckets' for example, with no when-not-to-use (6). String inputs with required fields, no enums or bounds (8). Examples in the docs, but no documented error responses (6). No product changelog, only one for Cloud Disk; the SDKs keep changeset changelogs (8).
- Agent ergonomics 53: The stdio MCP server has 10 compact tools, but tigris_list_objects pages through a whole bucket with no limit or prefix (20). The S3 API pages and filters; the MCP list tool doesn't (10). No documented error codes or recovery guidance (5). No readOnlyHint or destructiveHint on the stdio tools, and we couldn't see the hosted server's (5). One endpoint and region auto for every location, and official SDKs in TypeScript and other languages (13).
- Security & auth 51: Access keys scoped per bucket with ReadOnly, ReadWrite or Editor roles and IAM policies with conditions, revocable and rotatable through the IAM API. No STS or expiring keys, so every key lives until revoked (25). A ReadOnly role and bucket soft delete, but no read-only MCP mode or delete confirmation documented (12). Returns stored bytes, with no guidance on treating them as untrusted (8). No audit log found (0). No security.txt. A migration guide says Tigris is SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliant; no trust page or bug bounty found (6).
- Payments & pricing 30: No x402, MPP or L402 (0). Per-GB and per-request prices public without a login, per the 30 September check (20). A free 5 GB and 110,000 requests a month; we didn't establish whether signup asks for a card (10). A person signs up in a browser (0).
- Task success: Pending. Task success needs the category task suites run through each tool, which haven't run yet, so this run doesn't score it. Its weight is shared across the assessed categories until then. A data provider's data-quality score is published on its listing now and becomes half of this category when it's scored.
- Maintenance & community 77: @tigrisdata/storage 3.22.0 and the CLI 3.14.0 on 30 September 2026 (30). Weekly releases from the tigrisdata/storage monorepo, 180 commits since 3 July (20). Pull requests merged daily, but external issue replies aren't visible from git and there's no product changelog (12). Current official SDKs, but the stdio MCP server's last release was 1.14.0 on 17 November 2025 and it isn't in the MCP registry (7). Renovate and CI in the monorepo (8).
- Transparency & trust 51: Closed service; the SDKs, CLI and MCP server are MIT (20). Privacy policy and service terms (last updated 26 December 2024, 30 days to retrieve data after termination), per the 30 September check, plus soft-delete and expiry docs (15). No deprecation policy; the old fly.storage.tigris.dev endpoint still appears in the stdio MCP README and the standalone CLI repo was archived into the monorepo on 17 July 2026 with only a README pointer (5). Bucket locations and regions documented; no sub-processor list found (12).
Fix list for a coding agent, everything this grade says the listing lacks, the biggest gain first (20 items): https://www.anchorterminal.com/fixes/tigris.md (JSON https://www.anchorterminal.com/fixes/tigris.json)
### What we couldn't check
- unchecked: incident durations, which the status feed doesn't carry
- unchecked: whether Tigris publishes an SLA, rate limits or an audit log anywhere outside its docs llms.txt
- unchecked: whether Tigris signup asks for a card
- The hosted MCP server's tool list, scopes and annotations aren't published, so ergonomics and security are graded on the stdio server and the docs
- The listing's lastRelease (2025-11-17) was the stdio MCP server's; the SDK monorepo shipped on 2026-09-30, so lastRelease was patched and @tigrisdata/storage added to packages

## Strengths
- No egress fees, and one endpoint (t3.storage.dev) with region auto for every location
- Access keys scoped per bucket with ReadOnly, ReadWrite or Editor roles, plus IAM policies, revocation and rotation
- Hosted MCP server at mcp.storage.dev with OAuth, and a local stdio server with 10 tools
- Bucket snapshots and copy-on-write forks, wrapped for agents in @tigrisdata/agent-kit
- Active MIT SDK monorepo, @tigrisdata/storage 3.22.0 on 30 September 2026
## Weaknesses
- 16 status incidents between 4 July and 2 October 2026, including outages in US regions on 31 July and 2 August
- No STS or expiring keys; presigned URLs, which can run to 90 days, are the only short-lived credential
- No published rate limits, retry guidance, OpenAPI, product changelog or audit logs
- The stdio MCP server last released on 17 November 2025, lists whole buckets with no limit and carries no tool annotations
- @tigrisdata/iam dropped Condition fields from policies until 2.6.0 on 21 September 2026
## Before you call it (notes for agents)
1. Point the AWS SDK at https://t3.storage.dev with region `auto`; the stdio MCP README still shows the older fly.storage.tigris.dev endpoint
2. Ask for an access key with a ReadOnly or ReadWrite role on one bucket rather than an org-wide key
3. Keep presigned URLs short; Tigris accepts up to 90 days
4. Don't call tigris_list_objects on a large bucket; it walks every object with no limit or prefix
5. Use @tigrisdata/iam 2.6.0 or later before writing policies with conditions

### ★★★★☆ Short rate card, free egress, two billing questions open

Egress is free in every tier and region, and storage runs $0.02 a GB-month on Standard, $0.01 on Infrequent Access (30-day minimum, $0.01 a GB retrieval) and $0.004 on Archive (90-day minimum). Class A requests are $0.005 per 1,000 and Class B $0.0005 per 1,000, so 1,000 uploads cost $0.005 and 1,000 reads $0.0005. Deletes are free and object notifications are $0.01 per 1,000 events. Each month 5 GB, 10,000 Class A and 100,000 Class B requests are free, and storage is metered on the average daily peak over the month. The price list is public without a login. Whether signup asks for a card, and whether failed requests are billed, isn't established. Four because the rate card is short and public, with two billing details unchecked.
Pros: No egress fees in any tier or region; Free 5 GB and monthly request allowance; Deletes are free
Cons: Card requirement at signup not established; Failed-request billing unchecked; Standard at $0.02 a GB-month costs more than R2 or B2
Themes: praise Free egress, Short rate card. Struggles Unchecked billing details. Requests State card requirement.
### ★★☆☆☆ Policy conditions dropped silently until 21 September

@tigrisdata/iam 2.6.0, shipped on 21 September 2026, fixed policy create, update and read dropping their Condition and Sid fields. Until then an IP-restricted or time-limited policy written with Tigris's own SDK or CLI had become unrestricted without a word. It's fixed and in the changelog, and it's the advisory I'd read first. Keys scope per bucket by ReadOnly, ReadWrite or Editor roles and can be revoked or rotated, yet there's no STS, so every key lives until someone revokes it. The only short-lived credential is a presigned URL, and Tigris lets those run 90 days. The hosted MCP server uses OAuth but doesn't publish its tools, scopes or annotations, and the stdio server has no annotations or delete confirmation. I found no audit log, no security.txt and no bounty, and SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA appear only in a migration guide. Two, because the conditions failed open and there's no log to show what used them.
Pros: Keys scoped per bucket by role; Keys revocable and rotatable through the IAM API; agent-kit gives each agent its own scoped key, revoked on teardown; Hosted MCP signs in with OAuth
Cons: IAM SDK dropped policy conditions until 2.6.0; No STS, and presigned URLs last up to 90 days; No audit log, security.txt or bug bounty found; Hosted MCP tools and scopes unpublished
Themes: praise per-bucket key roles, per-agent keys. Struggles silent policy failure, no expiring keys, no audit log. Requests STS session credentials, shorter presigned URL ceiling.

## Notable
- One endpoint, https://t3.storage.dev, region `auto`, with the same AWS SDK calls as S3. The older Fly.io endpoint https://fly.storage.tigris.dev still appears in the MCP README (source: )
- The hosted MCP server at https://mcp.storage.dev/mcp signs in with OAuth and covers buckets, objects, snapshots and bucket forking. The stdio server (npx @tigrisdata/tigris-mcp-server run) adds presigned share links, and its docs suggest running it in Docker with a mounted directory and reading the source first (source: , )
- Presigned URLs cover GET and PUT and can last up to 90 days, far longer than the 7 days on S3 or R2. For buckets created after 2026-09-28 any x-amz-* header must be part of the signature or the request fails (source: )
- No STS or AssumeRole, so there's no way to hand an agent a short-lived credential other than a presigned URL (source: )
- The status page lists 13 locations (five in North America, three in Europe, three in Asia Pacific, São Paulo and Johannesburg) with per-region uptime (source: )
- After termination you get 30 days to retrieve content, then Tigris Data may delete it at its discretion (source: )
- Access keys can be scoped per bucket with ReadOnly, ReadWrite or Editor roles (NamespaceAdmin org-wide), governed by IAM policies with Action, Resource and Condition fields, and revoked or rotated through the IAM API (source: )
- @tigrisdata/agent-kit gives each agent a forked or dedicated bucket with an optional object TTL and its own role-scoped access key, and revokes the key on teardown (source: )
- @tigrisdata/iam 2.6.0 (2026-09-21) fixed policy documents losing their Sid and Condition fields on create, update and read, so an IP-restricted or time-limited policy had silently become unrestricted (source: )
- The status page (incident.io) lists 16 incidents from 2026-07-04 to 2026-10-02, among them a partial outage in US regions on 2026-07-31 and an outage in San Jose on 2026-08-02, and shows 99.78 per cent uptime for North America (source: )
