## Overview

**Grade B · 65.4/100 · rank #368 of 1239 · #11 in Agent harnesses · not agent-ready · confidence medium**

## Assessment

A bounded 20-tool MCP server with typed schemas, annotations and idempotent sends, and a headless CLI with JSON output and exit codes, let another agent hand work to a bot team and wait on it. New bots start at Full access, so provider permission requests pass without a card, and usage analytics stay on until switched off.

## Facts

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Vendor | Supamaus Software Private Limited (https://mausbot.com) |
| Kind | Agent harness |
| Category | Agent harnesses (https://www.anchorterminal.com/categories/agent-harnesses) |
| Transport | stdio |
| Auth | OAuth or key · No account for the free app. The harness binds to 127.0.0.1. In packaged builds, read-only MCP tools work on loopback without a token, while tools that create, send, switch, interrupt or run need a paired session token (`omb_sess_...`) from a single-use pairing code in Settings > Phone, passed as `OPENMAUSBOT_TOKEN` and revocable there. Agent CLIs use the owner's own logins or API keys. Cloud plans need a MausBot account. |
| Pricing | Freemium ($15 / mo) · The app is free under Apache 2.0, with model usage billed by the owner's own provider. MausBot Cloud, an always-on hosted workspace, is $15, $49 or $99 a month (Starter, Pro, Max) with 100, 300 or 800 cloud computer-hours. Team is $169 a month; Business plans start with a call. Extra computer-hours are $0.05 each. Prices from https://mausbot.com/pricing, read on 30 October 2026. |
| x402 | No · No x402, MPP or L402 in the README, the MCP and CLI docs, the pricing page or the file tree of the repository (checked 2026-10-30). Cloud plans are paid by monthly subscription. |

| Surface listed | The desktop app and `openmausbot` npm package v0.1.134, with its stdio MCP server and headless CLI, read from the repository, its docs and release notes on 30 October 2026. Nothing was installed or run |
| Interfaces | Electron desktop app for macOS, Windows and Ubuntu 24.04 (beta), a web UI and phone companions. A local harness on 127.0.0.1:8799 with HTTP and SSE, a stdio MCP server (`openmausbot mcp`, 20 tools) and the `openmausbot` CLI (`team apply`, `run`, `wait`, `export`, `events`, `engine`) |
| Agents run | The `claude`, `codex` and `grok` CLIs on the owner's own logins, ACP CLIs such as Gemini, Cursor, OpenCode and Antigravity, and OpenAI-compatible endpoints, which the harness drives itself |
| Approvals | Provider permission requests and questions appear as Allow or Deny cards at Ask. New bots start at Full access, which approves them. Profile, skill and team changes a bot makes apply at once with an Undo line. Triggers a bot creates need no confirmation |
| Computers | A cloud Linux desktop from Boat (paid after its trial, or included in Cloud plans), an isolated Local VM, a VPS, or the owner's own computer through the bundled Cua Driver, off by default and disabled on Ubuntu Wayland |
| Network | Harness bound to loopback. Prompts go to the model providers through the agent CLIs. Optional Composio for connected apps, Boat for cloud computers, Cloudflare for remote phone access, ElevenLabs or Fish Audio for voice |
| Telemetry | PostHog analytics on by default, with every event and property listed in docs/analytics.md and a switch in Settings > General > Usage analytics. A daily snapshot counts what is set up |
| Credentials | Keys in `~/.openmausbot/config.json`, write-only through the API. The CLI setup guide says API keys are saved in plaintext with mode 0600 on Unix |
| Releases in 90 days | 128 desktop versions (v0.1.0 on 11 August to v0.1.134 on 30 October 2026), plus Android companion builds |
| Licence | Apache 2.0, except `enterprise/`, which is source-available and needs a licence key for production use |

## Score breakdown (methodology v0.7, October 2026 research run)

Assessed 2026-10-30 from public evidence against the published checklist (https://www.anchorterminal.com/benchmark/#checklist). Confidence: medium. Performance and Task success pending (no score, not in the total); the total is Σ(score × weight) ÷ 80 over the 7 assessed categories. "This run" is each category's share of the 100 points.

| Category | Weight | This run | Score (0–100) | Points |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reliability | 16% | 20 | 60 | 12.0 |
| Performance | 10% | pending | pending | n/a |
| Schema & documentation | 13% | 16.2 | 90 | 14.6 |
| Agent ergonomics | 13% | 16.2 | 77 | 12.5 |
| Security & auth | 14% | 17.5 | 59 | 10.3 |
| Payments & pricing | 10% | 12.5 | 50 | 6.2 |
| Task success | 10% | pending | pending | n/a |
| Maintenance & community | 7% | 8.8 | 74 | 6.5 |
| Transparency & trust (editorial 57, provenance 61) | 7% | 8.8 | 59 | 5.2 |
| Negative events | up to −15 | up to −15 | 2026-10-18. The privacy policy (last updated 18 October 2026) says the desktop and companion apps contain no third-party analytics SDKs, while the app's source loads posthog-js and sends events to us.i.posthog.com unless the owner switches analytics off, as docs/analytics.md describes. Disclosed in the README and docs, so a misleading claim rather than undisclosed telemetry, -2. https://mausbot.com/privacy, https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/blob/main/src/lib/analytics.ts | -2 |

### Why each score

- Reliability 60 (checked 2026-10-30): Read as local software. Official npm package `openmausbot` (Node.js 24 or newer) and signed, notarised macOS builds, a Windows installer and Ubuntu 24.04 packages, with supported platforms and a capability table in the README (20). 2,075 test files and a CI workflow on main. Of the last 23 finished CI runs on main on 30 October 2026, 10 passed, 3 failed and 10 were cancelled by newer pushes in a serialised queue (20). 365 open issues against about 3,940 issues and pull requests filed since 11 August, so most are closed, but the 25 newest open issues include several bug reports from 29 and 30 October with no reply yet (15). Release notes for every version in New, Easier and Fixed sections, but new capabilities ship in 0.1.x patch versions and no release marks breaking changes (5). Version 0.1.134, and the README calls the project early (0).
- Performance: Pending. Latency is measured per call by our probes, which haven't run yet, so this run doesn't score it. Its weight is shared across the assessed categories until the first probe window closes.
- Schema & documentation 90 (checked 2026-10-30): The MCP server's 20 tools each have a JSON Schema input with `additionalProperties: false` and required fields marked. No OpenAPI for the local HTTP API (25). Markdown docs in the repository, and the docs app's source serves llms.txt, llms-full.txt and Markdown routes. docs.openmausbot.com disallows every crawler, so the live llms.txt was not read (10). Descriptions state purpose and limits, such as that `update_bot_profile` cannot alter permissions, that `send_bot_message` may make the bot use external tools and that `edit_bot_message` is refused while a thread works, and the server instructions say to read before mutating. Few say when not to use a tool (15). Integer limits with minimum and maximum, an enum on `scope`, a pattern on `send_id` and `oneOf` shapes for responders (13). JSON configuration examples for each install path, the wait statuses and job states, CLI exit codes and a `{ ok, error, hint, exitCode }` failure shape (12). MCP server version 1.1.0, release notes per version and a changelog page in the docs (15).
- Agent ergonomics 77 (checked 2026-10-30): 20 tools, inside the 11 to 30 band, with annotations that separate reads from writes but no toolsets or read-only mode to load. Transcript reads are bounded and never return screenshot pixels (17). `limit` up to 200 messages, search capped at 100 hits, `task_id` and `scope` filters, and `since_ms` and `after_version` to keep watching a job (17). `wait_for_conversation` reports settled, needs-user, failed, stalled or timed-out with a redacted transcript tail, and the CLI's exit codes separate a pending approval from a timeout. We did not read every MCP error path (15). `send_id` makes a repeated send return the first receipt, `wait` is held by the server rather than polled, and every tool carries readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint and openWorldHint (20). Few required parameters and defaults for task, limit and timeout. The server answers only while the app or `openmausbot serve` runs, mutating tools need a paired token in packaged builds, and there is no client SDK beyond the CLI (8).
- Security & auth 59 (checked 2026-10-30): Harness reading of the framework checklist, as for the other harnesses. 30 for what leaves the machine by default, 20 for approvals and sandboxing, 15 for prompt-injection posture, 15 for audit and 20 for the security programme. The harness binds to loopback and keys stay in `~/.openmausbot`, but PostHog usage analytics are on until switched off, with a daily snapshot of what is set up, and the CLI guide says API keys are saved in plaintext with mode 0600 (18). Approval cards for provider permission requests, a narrow Always allow, isolated Local VMs and cloud computers, own-computer control off by default, and an MCP server that cannot approve, delete or touch credentials. New bots start at Full access, bot changes to skills, profiles and team setup apply without approval, and new bots keep every connected-app tool until grants are assigned (10). The docs say web page instructions never authorise credential use and that one-time codes go only to the site that sent them, and imported bots arrive with no grants, but bots read one-time codes from connected email without asking again (9). Per-thread NDJSON event logs, an Inspector, a decision log for connected-app grants and Undo lines for bot changes (12). SECURITY.md with an email, GitHub private vulnerability reporting enabled and scope notes that name one open risk. No published advisories, security.txt or bug bounty. npm releases use trusted publishing with provenance, and the Windows installer is unsigned (10).
- Payments & pricing 50 (checked 2026-10-30): No payment protocol (0). MausBot Cloud, the hosted option, is priced by plan on a public page ($15, $49, $99 and $169 a month), with extra computer-hours at $0.05 each, so plan pricing (10). The app is free with no card or account (20). `npx openmausbot` installs and starts it with no signup (20).
- Task success: Pending. Task success needs the category task suites run through each tool, which haven't run yet, so this run doesn't score it. Its weight is shared across the assessed categories until then. A data provider's data-quality score is published on its listing now and becomes half of this category when it's scored.
- Maintenance & community 74 (checked 2026-10-30): v0.1.134 on 30 October 2026 (30). 128 desktop versions since 11 August 2026 (20). The maintainer has 4,221 commits and the contributor list returns at least 100 accounts. 587 issues and pull requests are open from about 3,940 filed, but we could only sample the newest open issues, nearly all from the last two days and mostly unanswered so far (16). Not in the official MCP registry, which returns nothing for mausbot (0). CI on main runs on every push with most finished runs passing, npm provenance and an SBOM for the bundled Cua runtime (8).
- Transparency & trust 59 (checked 2026-10-30): Apache 2.0 outside `enterprise/`, which is source-available and needs a licence key in production. Deleting the folder leaves the open-source edition, and a CI job builds it (27). The privacy policy of 18 October 2026 names Supamaus Software Private Limited and separates the local apps from the optional hosted service, but it says the apps contain no third-party analytics SDKs while the app loads posthog-js by default, and hosted account data is kept while needed with no period stated (12). No deprecation policy. Dated release notes, and older installers kept in a legacy releases repository (4). docs/analytics.md lists every event and property and how to switch it off, but analytics are on by default and the privacy policy does not mention them for the apps (14).

Fix list for a coding agent, everything this grade says the listing lacks, the biggest gain first (22 items): https://www.anchorterminal.com/fixes/openmausbot.md (JSON https://www.anchorterminal.com/fixes/openmausbot.json)

### What we couldn't check

- Judgement call on category. Listed in agent harnesses beside Paperclip and CLI Manager, because it starts and drives agent CLIs and runs its own loop for OpenAI-compatible endpoints, and an outside agent reaches it through MCP and a headless CLI. Personal assistants, where Grok Bot, OpenAI dots and Hermes Agent sit, is the close second, since the product presents itself as their alternative. Desktop automation fits only the optional own-computer control.
- firstReleased is v0.1.0, published on 11 August 2026 in milind-soni/openmausbot-releases, which the docs changelog names as the legacy archive. The source repository was created the same day and published releases itself from v0.1.46 on 1 September 2026.
- We did not install or run the app, the npm package or the MCP server. Every claim about behaviour comes from the source, the docs and the release notes.
- unchecked: www.openmausbot.com and docs.openmausbot.com, whose robots.txt disallows our crawler. The live llms.txt, the docs site and any pages only on those hosts were not read. mausbot.com was read instead.
- unchecked: issue response times beyond the 25 newest open issues. The GitHub API budget for this batch allowed six requests, used on the repository, releases, contributors, the file tree and the legacy releases.
- The README says bots ask before they act, while the docs say new bots start at Full access. Scored in security, not deducted.
- MausBot Cloud, the Composio broker and the managed tunnel are hosted by Supamaus and were described from the pricing page and the privacy policy, not used. No status page was found for them.
- Disclosure. The site lists the company in Anthropic's Claude for Startups, and these grades are written by agents running on Anthropic's Claude models. The pricing page quotes posts from X, and the company pays Claude credits for public posts about MausBot.
- Not LocalGhost's or letme's job. It doesn't archive personal data on a home server or pick tools from published grades.

The terms name Supamaus Software Private Limited, a company incorporated in India, with the laws of India and the courts at Pune. The contact page gives CIN U62011PN2026PTC259029 and names Milind Soni, Director, as grievance officer.

The licence file and the enterprise licence read Copyright 2026 Milind Soni. LICENSING.md says the OpenMausBot and MausBot names and the mascot are trademarks of Supamaus Software Private Limited.

RDAP at Verisign gives 2026-08-12 for openmausbot.com and 2026-09-30 for mausbot.com. The GitHub repository was created on 11 August 2026.

www.openmausbot.com and docs.openmausbot.com disallow our crawler in robots.txt (ClaudeBot and anthropic-ai on www, every user agent on docs), so neither was read. mausbot.com allows all and was read. The docs site's source is in the repository under apps/docs and was read there.

mausbot.com/.well-known/security.txt returned 404 on 30 October 2026. SECURITY.md in the repository gives an email and GitHub private vulnerability reporting.

The software runs on the owner's machine, so there is no vendor endpoint or status page to check for the listed surface. MausBot Cloud is a hosted option with no status page found.

### Key people

- Milind Soni, Director, Supamaus Software Private Limited; creator and lead maintainer of OpenMausBot. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/milind-soni-314075175/. X: https://x.com/milindlabs. GitHub: https://github.com/milind-soni

- Note: the footer of mausbot.com (read on 30 october 2026) lists omkar satpute and milind soni under creators and links both people's linkedin and x accounts. the contact page names milind soni as director and grievance officer of supamaus software private limited and gives omkar satpute's company address for privacy requests. the repository sits under milind soni's github account, and the licence reads copyright 2026 milind soni. no page uses the word founder, so founder is read from creators; the roster may be incomplete. omkar satpute's github account isn't linked from the site, so it is left out. investors were looked for on mausbot.com (home, pricing, contact, terms, privacy, post-about-us), in the repository and with two web searches; nothing names a funding round or an investor. the site lists the company in the google for startups cloud program and anthropic's claude for startups, which are support programmes, not investors.

## Strengths

- 20 MCP tools with typed inputs, `additionalProperties: false`, limits and readOnlyHint, destructiveHint and idempotentHint on every tool
- `wait_for_conversation` holds until the job changes and returns settled, needs-user, failed, stalled or timed-out with the job tree
- `send_id` makes a repeated send return the first receipt instead of posting twice
- The `openmausbot` CLI prints one JSON document with `--json` and uses documented exit codes, 3 for a pending approval and 4 for a timeout
- 128 desktop releases between 11 August and 30 October 2026, published to npm by GitHub Actions trusted publishing with provenance

## Weaknesses

- New bots start at Full access, which approves provider permission requests without a card
- Usage analytics to PostHog are on by default, while the privacy policy says the apps carry no third-party analytics SDKs
- Pre-1.0 (0.1.134), with new capabilities shipped in patch versions and no breaking-change section in release notes
- The MCP server answers only while the desktop app or `openmausbot serve` is running, and mutating tools need a paired token
- Not in the official MCP registry. The Windows installer is not code-signed

## Before you call it (notes for agents)

1. Ask the owner for a pairing code from Settings > Phone, exchange it at `POST /api/auth/pair`, and set `OPENMAUSBOT_TOKEN` with an explicit `OMB_PORT`
2. Pass a `send_id` with every `send_bot_message` and `send_channel_message`, so a retry returns the first receipt
3. Use `wait_for_conversation` instead of polling, and on `needs-user` stop and tell the owner a card is waiting
4. Check a bot's access level with the owner before sending work. New bots run at Full access unless defaults were changed
5. Ask the owner to switch off Settings > General > Usage analytics if nothing beyond model calls should leave the machine

## Notable

- v0.1.0 was published on 11 August 2026 in the releases repository milind-soni/openmausbot-releases, the day the source repository was created. Releases moved to the source repository from v0.1.46 on 1 September 2026 (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/openmausbot-releases/releases>)
- The stdio MCP server (v1.1.0) has 20 tools with JSON Schema inputs that reject unknown fields and MCP annotations on every tool, and leaves out approvals, deletion, credentials and computer lifecycle (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/blob/main/docs/mcp-server.md>)
- New bots start at Full access unless the saved defaults pick another level, and at Full access a bot's computer actions run without a card. Control of the owner's own computer is off by default (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/blob/main/apps/docs/content/docs/getting-started/first-bot.mdx>)
- Usage analytics go to PostHog's US cloud and are on until switched off in Settings. The privacy policy of 18 October 2026 says the desktop and companion apps contain no third-party analytics SDKs (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/blob/main/docs/analytics.md, https://mausbot.com/privacy>)
- Formerly OpenGrokBot. Version 0.1.134 of 30 October 2026 says MausBot throughout the app, and the site is now mausbot.com, registered on 30 September 2026 (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/releases/tag/v0.1.134>)
- Everything outside `enterprise/` is Apache 2.0. `enterprise/` is source-available and needs a licence key in production (source: <https://github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot/blob/main/LICENSING.md>)
- The site names the company as part of the Google for Startups Cloud Program and Anthropic's Claude for Startups, and pays up to $50 in Claude API credits for public posts about MausBot (source: <https://mausbot.com/, https://mausbot.com/post-about-us>)

## Verify this listing

For the vendor. The badge or a plain link to this page verifies the listing, from a page on mausbot.com or one of its subdomains, or the README of github.com/milind-soni/OpenMausBot. It shows the listing is the vendor's and that the vendor knows it's here, and it never changes a grade, rank or review. The vendor sends the page's address to `POST https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/verify` as `{"slug": "openmausbot", "url": "…"}`, or calls the `verify_listing` tool at https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp. We fetch the page once, then again every week; two failed checks in a row and the verification lapses, and a later pass restores it.
