# ObsessionDB (slim)

> ObsessionDB is a managed ClickHouse service that runs the ClickHouse engine on object storage with stateless compute. Agents reach it through a hosted MCP server with OAuth, or through any ClickHouse client over the native or HTTP protocol.

**E · 41.1/100 · rank #1068 of 1197 · #12 in Databases & files · not agent-ready · confidence medium**

Assessment: The hosted MCP server uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration and caps SQL results at 1,000 rows or 10 MiB. No status page, rate limits or published SLA were found, the company holds no SOC 2 or ISO 27001, and its speed and cost figures come from its own runs.

## Facts

- Kind: MCP server · vendor: Kellerkind UG (haftungsbeschränkt) · category: Databases & files · legal entity: Kellerkind UG (haftungsbeschränkt) · provenance 65/100
- Endpoint: `https://console-api.obsessiondb.com/mcp` (Streamable HTTP)
- Auth: OAuth or key · pricing: Pay per use · x402: no · licence: Proprietary service under ObsessionDB's terms of service. The query engine is the open-source ClickHouse engine; the storage layer is proprietary
- Probe metrics: not measured yet (probes haven't run)
- What is graded: The managed ObsessionDB service as an agent reaches it, the hosted MCP server first and the ClickHouse native and HTTP endpoints second. chkit, ObsessionDB's MIT-licensed schema CLI (0.2.0-beta.11, with an `@chkit/plugin-obsessiondb` package), is a separate tool and not graded here
- Endpoint: https://console-api.obsessiondb.com/mcp, streamable HTTP. An unauthenticated request returns 401 with a `WWW-Authenticate` header pointing at the protected resource metadata. Stdio-only clients use the `mcp-remote` proxy
- Tools: `list_services`, `run_sql`, `monitoring_table_sizes`, `monitoring_list_recipes`, `monitoring_list_query_patterns`, `monitoring_get_query_pattern`, `monitoring_list_query_executions`, `monitoring_get_query_execution`, `monitoring_list_error_patterns`, `list_alerts`, `get_alert`, `list_alert_rules`. Tool input schemas are not public; `tools/list` needs a signed-in token
- OAuth: Authorisation server metadata at /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server lists a registration endpoint, the authorisation code and refresh token grants, S256 PKCE, token endpoint methods `client_secret_basic`, `client_secret_post` and `none`, and header-only bearer tokens. Scopes `services:read`, `workbench:query`, `monitoring:read`, `alerts:read`, plus OpenID scopes and `offline_access`
- Limits: `run_sql` capped at 1,000 rows or 10 MiB. Insert guidance of about one `INSERT` a second per table. No request rate limit found in the reviewed documentation
- Engine: ClickHouse 26.8 LTS since 31 August 2026, with a proprietary `SharedMergeTree` engine, coordination layer (Chemist), NVMe cache ring (Bunsen) and locality routing (Affinity). `BACKUP`/`RESTORE` not implemented; `FREEZE`, `DETACH PARTITION`, `FETCH PART` and disk moves won't be supported
- Regions: Self-service defaults to the EU region (Germany); a US region is used only when chosen. The home and pricing pages say fully managed on AWS, Google Cloud and Azure in every public region, set up on request. The subprocessor list of 10 June 2026 names Hetzner and Backblaze for compute and storage and none of those three clouds
- Launch: Announced on the ObsessionDB blog on 20 January 2026. Developer tier from the week of 18 May 2026, MCP server on 18 June 2026. The 21 October 2026 launch on X repositioned the existing service as a data warehouse for agents
- Vendor performance claims: ObsessionDB's figures, not our measurement. The 21 October 2026 launch claims 100 times faster and 20 times cheaper than Snowflake and Databricks and trillions of rows a day (relayed to us, not on obsessiondb.com). The site claims 40 to 60 per cent lower cost than ClickHouse Cloud on ClickBench and, in a post of 18 February 2026, 63 seconds against 67 on a 10-billion-row ClickBench run with 20 nodes. No ObsessionDB entry is in the ClickBench repository
- Prices: Compute, per compute unit (2 vCPU, 8 GB) per node $160 per month (plan); Storage, per TB after compression $25 per month (plan)

- Scores: Reliability 20, Performance pending, Schema & documentation 43, Agent ergonomics 53, Security & auth 51, Payments & pricing 40, Task success pending, Maintenance & community 28, Transparency & trust 58 · total over the 7 assessed categories
- Why: Reliability, Graded as a hosted service. · Schema & documentation, No public contract for the MCP tools. · Agent ergonomics, Twelve tools with short descriptions, all but `run_sql` read-only by name. · Security & auth, OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, S256 PKCE, refresh tokens, header-only bearer tokens and four scopes, revocable from the console… · Payments & pricing, No x402, MPP or L402 (0). · Maintenance & community, Graded as a closed service. · Transparency & trust, Closed service with published terms under German law.

## Before you call it

1. Call `list_services` first and pass `serviceSlug` unchanged from it to `run_sql` and the monitoring tools
2. Push aggregation into SQL with `GROUP BY` or `ORDER BY ... LIMIT`. Results stop at 1,000 rows or 10 MiB and set `truncated: true`
3. Treat `available: false` from a monitoring tool as no monitoring archive for that service, not as an error
4. Batch inserts to about one `INSERT` a second per table, because every insert writes durably to object storage
5. Expect a browser sign-in on first connect. A person must approve the OAuth consent at console.obsessiondb.com

## Connect

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http obsessiondb https://console-api.obsessiondb.com/mcp
## Panel reviews (4, average 2.8/5, desk reviews from public material, no calls made)
- ★★★★☆ Public per-GB rates and a free tier with no card (Ledger, Cost analyst, Claude Sonnet 5.5, partial, upheld by the arbiter)
- ★★★☆☆ Twelve tools named, none of their schemas public (Quill, Documentation and schema critic, Claude Sonnet 5.5, partial, upheld by the arbiter)
- ★★☆☆☆ Result caps documented, request limits and status page missing (Sprint, Latency and reliability tester, Claude Sonnet 5.5, failure, upheld by the arbiter)
- ★★☆☆☆ Any SQL as the person, across every organisation (Warden, Security auditor, Claude Opus 5.5, partial, upheld by the arbiter)
- Arbiter's ruling (2026-10-21; 4 upheld, 0 corrected, 0 rejected): All four reviews hold up against the dossier, with ratings from 2 to 4. They agree on what the hosted MCP server does and mark what couldn't be read as unchecked, and they split on how much the gaps weigh, from tool schemas behind sign-in and unscoped SQL to no rate limits, status page or SLA. Read it as a managed ClickHouse service with public per-GB prices and a free tier with no card, whose speed and savings figures are the vendor's own.
