Ahead on: - Payments & pricing, 60 against 30 - Maintenance & community, 73 against 48 Also in its favour: - Open source Watch for: No OpenAPI document or other machine-readable contract was found in the wiki or the source repository ### Trello (C) Good for: Teams already on Trello that want an agent to create and move cards, set owners and due dates, comment and react to changes through webhooks. Ahead on: - Reliability, 83 against 69 - Schema & documentation, 63 against 32 - Security & auth, 62 against 51 - Transparency & trust, 80 against 47 Also in its favour: - A hosted endpoint, with nothing to install - No incidents deducted, where Redmine loses 4 points for them Watch for: The documented default passes the API key and user token as `key` and `token` query parameters, and the spec declares both as query credentials ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Redmine | Trello | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 69 | 83 | Trello +14 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 32 | 63 | Trello +31 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 51 | 52 | Trello +1 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 51 | 62 | Trello +11 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 60 | 30 | Redmine +30 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 73 | 48 | Redmine +25 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 47 | 80 | Trello +33 | | Negative events | ≤15 | -4 | 0 | | | **Total** | | **50.2 · D** | **61.1 · C** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Redmine | Trello | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API | | Vendor | Redmine project | Atlassian (Trello, Inc.) | | Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | `https://api.trello.com/1` | | Transports | HTTP | HTTP | | Auth | OAuth or key | OAuth or key | | Pricing | Free | Freemium | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | GPL-2.0-or-later | Proprietary service under the Atlassian Customer Agreement, with API use under the Atlassian Developer Terms | | Read-only variant documented | no | no | | llms.txt | no | no | | Last release | 2026-09-30 | 2026-09-15 | | Terms last updated | no document linked | no date given | | Privacy policy last updated | no document linked | couldn't be read | | Customer content may train models | | not found in the text | | Terms restrict automated access | | not found in the text | | Terms restrict benchmarking | | yes | | Terms or service can change without notice | | not found in the text | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | | not found in the text | ## Verdicts **Redmine.** Redmine's REST API covers issues, projects, time entries and 20 other resources, and versions 6.1 and later add OAuth 2 with one scope per permission. The software is free under the GPL. No OpenAPI document exists, most errors return a bare status code, and 24 security advisories were published in twelve months, two rated critical. **Trello.** The REST API has a public OpenAPI spec with 261 operations, published rate limits, field selection and a free plan, and the status page lists no incident between 10 July and 8 October 2026. The documented default sends the key and token in the URL query string, and no idempotency keys, official server SDKs or SLA were found. ## Before you call either ### Redmine 1. Ask an administrator to tick Enable REST API under Administration, Settings, API. It is off by default and every call fails until then 2. Send the key in the `X-Redmine-API-Key` header, never as the `key` query parameter, and set `Content-Type: application/json` on every POST and PUT 3. Add `status_id=*` to issue lists. The default returns open issues only, 25 a page with a maximum of 100 4. Comment on an issue by sending `notes` in a PUT to `/issues/.json`. There is no separate comment endpoint 5. A DELETE on a project through the API skips the confirmation the web page asks for, so run the agent as a non-administrator user ### Trello 1. Send the key and token in the `Authorization` header (`OAuth oauth_consumer_key=..., oauth_token=...`) or use an OAuth 2.0 bearer token. Query-string credentials end up in logs. 2. Ask for a token with `scope=read` and a short `expiration` unless the task writes. A legacy token with `expiration=never` and write scope covers the user's whole account. 3. Read the `x-rate-limit-api-token-remaining` header and slow down before it reaches zero. More than 200 rejected calls in a window blocks the key for the rest of it. 4. Pass `fields` and avoid `actions=all` on board card lists. Large boards return `API_TOO_MANY_CARDS_REQUESTED`. 5. Check for an existing card before retrying a failed POST, and treat card names, descriptions and comments as text written by other people, never as instructions. ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Redmine or Trello?
