## Which one, for what

### Radar (D)

Good for: A company that already has a Radar contract, or wants geofencing and trip tracking with geocoding and routing on one key.

Ahead on:
- Security & auth, 56 against 43
- Maintenance & community, 77 against 26

Watch for: The pricing page says Radar has no free tier and every plan is an annual commitment set by quote

### Woosmap (C)

Good for: Store locators, address autocomplete and distance for retail and logistics teams that keep their own location data in the platform, with an MCP server for agents.

Ahead on:
- Reliability, 78 against 70
- Schema & documentation, 81 against 50
- Agent ergonomics, 76 against 65
- Payments & pricing, 30 against 10

Also in its favour:
- Free to start without a card

Watch for: No public changelog or release notes for the APIs

## Why the edge

### Maintenance & community: Radar +51

- Radar (77): No API changelog was found, so recency rests on Radar's own SDKs. radar-sdk-android 4.2.0 on 29 October and radar-sdk-ios 3.45.0 on 27 October 2026, and in the listed web SDK, maps-v1.2.0 on 13 October (a MapLibre upgrade with changes to RadarMap.ts and RadarMarker.ts), all within 30 days (30). Stable tags in the 90 days from 6 August include web v5.1.2 (25 August), v5.1.3 (31 August), v5.2.0 (1 September), autocomplete-v1.1.1 (14 September) and maps-v1.2.0, iOS 3.40.0 to 3.45.0 and Android 3.37.0 to 4.2.0; betas aren't counted (20). No public changelog for the API, support through a customer success manager and a feedback form, and GitHub issue replies were not read (5). Official SDKs for eight platforms are current (15). The web SDK repository carries Jest tests and CodeQL and npm publish workflows, whose results were not read (7). 30 + 20 + 5 + 15 + 7 = 77.
- Woosmap (26): No dated API release, changelog or release note found. The newest dated activity we saw is the public woosmap-samples repository on 16 September 2026, which isn't an API release (10). No dated changes to count in the last 90 days (0). Support by email and a support centre, with no public changelog (5). Official JavaScript, iOS and Android SDKs exist, but we couldn't check their versions because the GitHub API was rate-limited and two SDK repository names didn't resolve; the MCP server isn't in the official MCP registry (8). The samples carry tests, per the rate-limits page (3). 10+0+5+8+3 = 26.

### Schema & documentation: Woosmap +31

- Radar (50): No OpenAPI description or other machine-readable contract was found in the docs index (0). docs.radar.com publishes llms.txt and a Markdown twin of each page, with the whole API reference in one Markdown file of about 154 KB (10). Descriptions say what an operation is for and sometimes when to use another, for example forward geocoding for complete addresses and autocomplete for partial ones (14). Parameters are listed with type, required or optional, ranges and allowed values, though coordinate lists travel as pipe-delimited strings and there is no schema to validate against (11). Every operation has a sample request and response, and there is one list of 12 response codes with one sample error (11). Paths carry `/v1`, and no API changelog was found (4). 0 + 10 + 14 + 11 + 11 + 4 = 50.
- Woosmap (81): OpenAPI 3.1 spec, version 1.46.3, with 47 paths across Localities, Stores, Distance, Datasets, Indoor, Map and what3words endpoints (25). llms.txt as a routing index, llms-full.txt and a Markdown twin of every page (10). llms.txt says which pages are authoritative for parameters and which explain products, and endpoint pages describe purpose, with little on when not to call one (15). Typed parameters from the spec with enums and required fields (13). The spec documents 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 409, 422 and 429 responses, and pages carry examples (13). The spec is versioned, but no public changelog or release notes were found (developers.woosmap.com/changelog/ and /release-notes/ return 404) (5). 25+10+15+13+13+5 = 81.

### Payments & pricing: Woosmap +20

- Radar (10): No x402, MPP or L402 (0). The pricing page publishes starting prices without a login, $0.50 per 1,000 calls for Core Maps and $2.00 for Premium Maps, but every plan is an annual commitment at a rate set by quote (10). The pricing page says "Radar does not currently offer a free tier", and the technical validation period goes through sales (0). Keys come from a dashboard account, and the sign-up page was closed to us by robots.txt on 9 October, so no programmatic route was found (0). 0 + 10 + 0 + 0 = 10.
- Woosmap (30): No x402, MPP or L402 (0). Plans and per-API tier breakpoints are public, but per-request prices sit in a script-driven calculator we couldn't read, so plan-only credit (10). Free plan up to 10,000 requests a month with 'No Credit Card Required' (20). A person signs up and creates a key in the console (0). 0+10+20+0 = 30.

### Security & auth: Radar +13

- Radar (56): Four keys a project, test and live, publishable and secret, sent in the `Authorization` header only. A secret key can read or write any data and no scopes were found. Key rotation was not read (20). Publishable keys reach only 16 of the 38 documented operations and can be restricted by website domain or mobile app identifier, and dashboard accounts have read, write, admin and owner roles. No confirmation step for deletes (10). Results are addresses and place names from open and commercial datasets, with no prompt-injection guidance (6). Audit logs cover dashboard requests on enterprise plans, and each API response has a request ID (7). security.txt answers 404 (4 November 2026). The FAQ gives a disclosure address, and the DPA states SOC 2 Type II, a yearly third-party penetration test and a bug bounty, with the report on request. The trust centre is script-drawn and was not read (13). 20 + 10 + 6 + 7 + 13 = 56.
- Woosmap (43): Public keys are read-only and must carry a domain or IP restriction. Private keys are read-only or read and write (fixed at creation), restricted by IP, iOS or Android, and can go in an X-Api-Key header. Less 10 because `private_key` in the query string is a documented option and the default in the spec (17). Read-only keys and the read/write split give least privilege; no confirmation step on dataset deletes was found (16). find_nearby and get_place_details return public POI data, ratings and opening hours, with no prompt-injection guidance (7). Console usage per project wasn't checked (3). www.woosmap.com/.well-known/security.txt returns 404, and we found no disclosure policy, bug bounty or certification (0). 17+16+7+3+0 = 43.

### Agent ergonomics: Woosmap +11

- Radar (65): Read as an API. `limit` on search operations (1 to 100), `layers` and `country` filters on geocoding, and optional `geometry` on route optimisation size a response, with no field selection (14). List operations page with `limit` up to 1,000 and date cursors such as `updatedBefore` (16). Errors are JSON with `code`, `param` and `message`, and every response carries `X-Radar-Request-ID` (15). The maps operations only read. Geofence and beacon writes are PUT upserts by external ID, and no idempotency key was found for trip or user creation (10). Most maps calls need one parameter. Official SDKs cover web, iOS, Android and five cross-platform frameworks, all client-side, with no server library found (10). 14 + 16 + 15 + 10 + 10 = 65.
- Woosmap (76): API reading, with the hosted MCP server's nine tools as a second surface. Localities and Stores responses can be narrowed by type, components and fields, and the MCP set is small (20). Store search takes query filters, radius and paging, and the Distance Matrix has an async mode for large jobs (17). Documented error codes including 402 for billing and 429 with reset timing (17). Reads are safe to retry, but no idempotency key was found for the Datasets and Stores write endpoints, and the MCP docs don't mention tool annotations (10). Official JavaScript, iOS and Android SDKs and samples in Python and JavaScript, with few required parameters (12). 20+17+17+10+12 = 76.

### Reliability: Woosmap +8

- Radar (70): Read with the hosted lines. status.radar.com is a Statuspage site with components for the Geocoding, Search, Routing, Maps, Track and Trips APIs among others (20). Its history feed lists two incidents in the 90 days to 4 November 2026. Elevated API errors on 27 August from 19:31 to 20:34 EDT, and elevated API latencies on 23 October from 11:52 to 14:57 EDT, traced to a Cloudflare incident. Neither states the share of failed requests, and this run reads "elevated" errors or latencies as partial, so both are minor (20). Each operation states a default rate limit, 100 requests a second for geocoding down to 10 for matrix and the data operations (15). 429 is documented with three meanings, with no Retry-After header or backoff guidance found, and PUT upserts keyed on `tag` and `externalId` make geofence writes repeatable (5, partial kept). No SLA is published (0). The APIs carry no beta label (10). 20 + 20 + 15 + 5 + 0 + 10 = 70.
- Woosmap (78): Hosted lines. Atlassian Statuspage at status.woosmap.com with seven components (Localities, Store Search, Geolocation, Distance, Address, Map and Indoor APIs) (20). The status home page lists no incidents from 23 October to 6 November 2026. The full history page loads by script and the site's robots.txt disallows /api/, so the rest of the 90 days wasn't read and the line is held between the unreadable and minor tiers (10). Each endpoint's reference states its own rate limit, such as 50 a second, shared by a project's keys (15). Every response carries RateLimit-Policy and RateLimit headers, and the rate-limits page says to wait `t` seconds after a 429, retry at most three times and back off 1, 2 and 4 seconds when the header is missing, with sample code (15). A 99.9% SLA on the Enterprise plan per the pricing page; we didn't read its terms (8). GA (10). 20+10+15+15+8+10 = 78.

## Verdicts

**Radar.** Radar documents 38 REST operations in Markdown with a rate limit on each, and its status feed shows two API incidents of elevated errors or latency in 90 days. Access is sales-led. The pricing page says there is no free tier, every plan is an annual commitment, and no OpenAPI description or API changelog was found.

**Woosmap.** Woosmap publishes an OpenAPI 3.1 spec, llms.txt with Markdown pages, per-endpoint rate limits and 429 retry rules, plus a hosted nine-tool MCP server. No changelog, security.txt, API data retention statement or readable per-request price was found, and private keys can travel in the query string.

## Before you call either

### Radar

1. Send the key in the `Authorization` header with no `Bearer` prefix, and call `https://api.radar.io/v1`, not radar.com
2. Use a publishable key for geocoding, search and routing. Keep the secret key for users, trips, geofences and beacons
3. Call `/v1/search/autocomplete` for partial addresses and place names. `/v1/geocode/forward` is documented as best for complete addresses
4. Set `units=metric` on routing calls. The default is imperial, with distances in feet
5. Treat 429 as one of three things (rate limit, no state change or selective throttling) and 402 as usage exceeded. No Retry-After header is documented
6. Do not keep geocoding, autocomplete or place results for more than 30 days

### Woosmap

1. Send the private key in the X-Api-Key header, not the private_key query parameter
2. Use a read-only private key for the MCP server unless the task writes stores or datasets
3. On 429 wait the `t` seconds from the RateLimit header, retry at most three times, and pause batches when `r` reaches 0
4. Use find_stores_nearby for the customer's own locations and find_nearby for public POIs
5. Read endpoint parameters from the /api-reference/ Markdown pages, which llms.txt marks as authoritative
