Ahead on: - Reliability, 70 against 15 - Schema & documentation, 68 against 0 - Agent ergonomics, 67 against 0 - Security & auth, 60 against 0 - Payments & pricing, 60 against 10 - Maintenance & community, 73 against 54 - Transparency & trust, 56 against 47 Also in its favour: - No key needed to call it - Runs on your own machine - Open source Watch for: Usage data is on by default, `qwenpaw init --defaults` accepts it without a prompt, and the opt-out variable is absent from the README and docs ### Tomo (F) Good for: People who want accountability, check-ins and reminders by text, including in group chats. Also in its favour: - No incidents deducted, where QwenPaw loses 3 points for them Watch for: No API, MCP server or A2A endpoint for an outside agent. ## Score by category | Category | Weight | QwenPaw | Tomo | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 70 | 15 | QwenPaw +55 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 68 | 0 | QwenPaw +68 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 67 | 0 | QwenPaw +67 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 60 | 0 | QwenPaw +60 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 60 | 10 | QwenPaw +50 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 73 | 54 | QwenPaw +19 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 56 | 47 | QwenPaw +9 | | Negative events | ≤15 | -3 | 0 | | | **Total** | | **62.2 · B** | **13.1 · F** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | QwenPaw | Tomo | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | Agent harness | Platform | | Vendor | AgentScope | Mapo Labs, Inc. | | Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | no (local only) | | Transports | HTTP, stdio | | | Auth | None | OAuth or key | | Pricing | Free | Paid | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Apache-2.0 | Closed service under Tomo's Terms of Service (Mapo Labs, Inc., last updated 24 September 2026). | | Read-only variant documented | no | no | | llms.txt | no | no | | Last release | 2026-09-11 | 2026-09-29 | | Terms last updated | no document linked | | | Privacy policy last updated | no document linked | | | Customer content may train models | | | | Terms restrict automated access | | | | Terms restrict benchmarking | | | | Terms or service can change without notice | | | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | | | | Popularity | 36k stars | none | ## Verdicts **QwenPaw.** Mail tools ask for approval by default, automatic mail handling may not delete permanently, and the security docs list what each sandbox backend fails to enforce. Usage data is sent by default, the default approval level passes every tool call no rule flags, and no privacy policy or security advisory is published. **Tomo.** Tomo is a hosted personal AI over iMessage and an iOS app, centred on goals, check-ins and reminders, with regular iOS releases since April 2026. No outside agent can call it, there's no free plan, and no status page, security contact or subprocessor list was found. ## Before you call either ### QwenPaw 1. Set `QWENPAW_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=true` before `qwenpaw init --defaults` or `qwenpaw app`. Both send usage data without asking 2. Set `approval_level` to `STRICT` or `SMART` in `agent.json`. The default `AUTO` runs every tool call no guard rule flags 3. Set `dm_policy` and `group_policy` to `allowlist` with `allow_from` on each channel. Both default to `open` 4. Set `QWENPAW_AUTH_ENABLED=true` before binding beyond 127.0.0.1. Requests from localhost skip login even then 5. Keep mail tools on `ask` for `send_message`, `delete_message` and `delete_thread`, and turn on Mail Access Control with automatic handling ### Tomo 1. Don't plan to call Tomo from another agent. It answers only the owner's iMessage, group chats it's added to and the iOS app. 2. Tell the owner that adding Tomo to a group chat applies its terms to every participant. ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, QwenPaw or Tomo? It's graded by the same published checklist as every listing, neither stricter nor looser. Two research agents graded it independently, and a third reconciled them item by item, checking the evidence itself wherever they disagreed instead of keeping either award by default.
