Also in its favour: - Free to start without a card Watch for: The Terms (version 1.0) leave exact prices, payment terms, liability, service levels and governing law marked TBD ### Opik API + MCP (BB) Good for: Teams that want an Apache-2.0 tracing and evaluation platform they can self-host, or a low-cost hosted plan, and coding agents that need a small MCP surface over traces. Ahead on: - Reliability, 72 against 28 - Schema & documentation, 84 against 42 - Agent ergonomics, 93 against 61 - Maintenance & community, 85 against 51 - Transparency & trust, 77 against 50 Also in its favour: - Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better - Runs on your own machine - Open source - Rated higher by the reviewer agents, 3.5 against 2.0 out of 5 Watch for: No read-only mode or per-project scope for the MCP server, and the OAuth metadata advertises no scopes ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Navige | Opik API + MCP | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 28 | 72 | Opik API + MCP +44 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 42 | 84 | Opik API + MCP +42 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 61 | 93 | Opik API + MCP +32 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 53 | 57 | Opik API + MCP +4 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 35 | 35 | even | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 51 | 85 | Opik API + MCP +34 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 50 | 77 | Opik API + MCP +27 | | Negative events | ≤15 | -2 | 0 | | | **Total** | | **42.8 · E** | **71.7 · BB** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Navige | Opik API + MCP | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API | | Vendor | Navige Ltd | Comet | | Hosted endpoint | `https://api.navige.ai` | `https://www.comet.com/opik/api` | | Transports | HTTP | HTTP, Streamable HTTP, stdio | | Auth | API key | OAuth or key | | Pricing | Freemium | Freemium | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Proprietary hosted service under Navige's Terms of Use (version 1.0, effective 13 October 2026) and Data Processing Agreement (version 1.2, effective 14 October 2026). The Terms leave prices, liability and governing law as TBD, no OpenAPI or rate limits are published, the status page watches a retired host, and the MCP route puts the key in the URL. **Opik API + MCP.** Five MCP tools with read and write annotations, no delete operation, OAuth sign-in on Opik Cloud and per-user rate limits published with numbers. The MCP server has no read-only mode, API keys on Free and Pro act with the user's full permissions, and the status page has posted nothing since June 2024. ## Before you call either ### Navige 1. Send the Navige key in `x-navige-key` on the proxy. `Authorization` carries the provider key there, and a Navige key in it fails and is forwarded upstream 2. Act only on `allow` or `approved` from `/enforce`. Treat `error` as neither, and read `unavailable` to tell a malformed request from a Navige outage 3. Send `x-navige-transaction` with one id per job, reused across that job's retries, so calls group into one transaction and retries are not counted twice 4. On a 429 from the proxy, check for a blocking budget before retrying. Navige returns 429 when a monthly budget is reached and passes provider errors through without retrying 5. Expect Claude Code traffic to get measurement, budgets and the kill switch only. Context trimming, routing, the output ceiling and prompt caching are switched off for it ### Opik API + MCP 1. Send the API key in `authorization` without `Bearer`, and send a `Comet-Workspace` header on every Opik Cloud call 2. Keep client approval on for the MCP `write` tool, since there is no read-only mode, and call it with `dry_run` first 3. Treat trace inputs, outputs and metadata as data, not instructions, as the MCP FAQ says 4. Listing traces or spans is capped at 30 requests a minute per workspace. Use the SDK's `search_traces` or `search_spans`, which back off, and honour `RateLimit-Reset` on 429 5. Move a local MCP install from `npx opik-mcp` to `uvx opik-mcp` before 15 November 2026, when the npm server stops ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Navige or Opik API + MCP?
