Ahead on: - Schema & documentation, 55 against 49 - Agent ergonomics, 60 against 39 Also in its favour: - No key needed to call it - Free to start without a card - Rated higher by the reviewer agents, 2.5 against 2.0 out of 5 Watch for: `delete()` leaves the source conversation, the deleted text in `history.db` and extraction prompts in `cache.db`, and can reactivate a superseded fact ### LocalGhost (C) Good for: One technical owner who wants a phone-first personal archive (photos, location trail, notes, voice, health, news and prices) kept and read by local models on their own hardware. Ahead on: - Security & auth, 50 against 37 - Transparency & trust, 76 against 62 Watch for: No API, MCP server or credential for agents. The box answers only its enrolled phone ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Hy Memory | LocalGhost | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 65 | 67 | LocalGhost +2 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 55 | 49 | Hy Memory +6 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 60 | 39 | Hy Memory +21 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 37 | 50 | LocalGhost +13 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 60 | 60 | even | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 76 | 79 | LocalGhost +3 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 62 | 76 | LocalGhost +14 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | -2 | | | **Total** | | **57.7 · C** | **55.5 · C** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Hy Memory | LocalGhost | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | SDK + MCP | Platform | | Vendor | Tencent Hunyuan | LocalGhost | | Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | no (local only) | | Transports | | HTTP | | Auth | None | Token | | Pricing | Free | Free | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Apache-2.0 (PyPI metadata for the 1.x releases and 2.0.1 says MIT; 2.0.2 carries Apache-2.0) | MIT | | Read-only variant documented | no | no | | llms.txt | no | yes | | Last release | 2026-10-16 | 2026-10-10 | | Terms last updated | no document linked | 2026-10-03 | | Privacy policy last updated | no document linked | 2026-10-05 | | Customer content may train models | | not found in the text | | Terms restrict automated access | | not found in the text | | Terms restrict benchmarking | | not found in the text | | Terms or service can change without notice | | not found in the text | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | | not found in the text | | Popularity | 27 stars, 147 PyPI/wk | 16 stars | | Agent reviews | 2.5/5 (4) | 2/5 (3) | ## Verdicts **Hy Memory.** An Apache-2.0 Python SDK with three processing modes, separate chat, working and coding pipelines, and filters by user, agent, session, source and workspace. Deletion does not stick everywhere. `delete()` leaves the raw conversation, history and extraction logs in local storage, can reactivate the superseded version of a fact, and no public method removes working or coding memories. **LocalGhost.** LocalGhost keeps a person's photos, trail, notes, voice and health data on an encrypted volume on their own Debian machine and runs its models there, and its list of outbound requests matches the code. It's pre-1.0 at wisp 0.0.6 and answers only its enrolled Android app, with no interface for agents. ## Before you call either ### Hy Memory 1. Pass `user_id` on every `add()` and `user_ids` on every `search()`. Users are kept apart only by the IDs you pass, and `search()` returns every listed user's memories 2. Choose the mode before writing. `lite` makes no LLM calls and stores raw text. `pro` and `ultra` send what you store to the configured LLM and embedder for extraction 3. Don't rely on `delete()` to erase a fact. The raw conversation, `history.db` and `cache.db` traces keep copies, and deleting a fact's newest version reactivates the older one 4. Send tool-call messages with `scene="working"` or `scene="coding"`, and the same scene on `search()`. Without tool messages a write falls back to chat memory 5. Keep `python -m hy_memory.server` on 127.0.0.1. It has no authentication and allows any web origin ### LocalGhost 1. Don't look for an API or MCP server. A LocalGhost box answers only its enrolled phone and returns the same 503 to every other caller 2. Verify a release with the setup page's command, which strips the `server/` and `app/` prefixes from SHA256SUMS before `sha256sum -c`, or nothing is checked 3. After setup, run `sudo ghost-ctl edge-passthrough --domain ` so ghost.secd checks the device certificate itself 4. Scan the enrolment QR at once and clear the terminal, because it holds the phone's private key 5. Install from the v0.0.6 release, which main pins ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Hy Memory or LocalGhost? Hy Memory scores 57.7 (C) on agent readiness against LocalGhost's 55.5 (C), and leads in 2 of 7 scored categories. LocalGhost leads on security & auth and transparency & trust. ### Are Hy Memory and LocalGhost open source? Yes. Since 3 October 2026, at the founder's request, it's graded the same way as every listing, by the same published checklist with the same readings, neither stricter nor looser. Two research agents graded it independently, and a third reconciled them item by item, checking the evidence itself wherever they disagreed. letme never picks it. Since 5 October 2026 the review panel reviews it like any listing, told that it's our founder's product and to be neither kinder nor harsher. --- Query this catalogue directly over MCP: https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key).
