Why the edge:
- Reliability, Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) +54: Gemini Developer API 45 (Status page at aistudio.google.com/status (robots.txt allows it), but on 1 November it still returned a script shell titled Google AI Studio with no components or history, so 10 of 20, and 5 of 30 for the incident line with no readable record, as the Gemini Live and Gemini Embedding listings read the same page. Google Cloud's status dashboard covers Vertex AI products, not this endpoint. Per-model RPM and TPM live in AI Studio. The public rate-limits page, re-read on 1 November, publishes tier rules, spend-based limits of $10, $50 and $200 per 10 minutes for Tiers 1 to 3, and batch queue limits (5 of 15). The troubleshooting page, re-read on 1 November, gives exponential backoff with jitter for 429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED and 503 UNAVAILABLE, says to retry 429, 408 and 5xx and not 400, 402 or 403, and says the Python SDK retries transient errors up to four times (15). No SLA found for the Developer API (0). The flagship `gemini-4-argon` went GA on 13 October 2026 and the default 3.8 Flash is GA, and the Interactions API the guides lead with has been Generally Available since June 2026. The listing's example and the SDKs default to the `v1beta` path, which Google labels beta, but the API versions page, read on 1 November, says the stable `v1` path carries the Interactions API, generateContent, function calling and structured output and supports every model, so the surface is available as GA, the reading Gemini Embedding takes on the same endpoint. Gemini Live keeps a deduction because the Live API runs on `v1beta` only (10). Before 13 October the only Pro model was `gemini-3.1-pro-preview` (5 of 10).); Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) 99 (Google Cloud status dashboard with per-product history (20). Its incident feed, read on 6 November, has no incident naming Vertex Gemini API, Gemini or the Agent Platform in the 90 days. The regional incidents of 20 August, 1 September and 20 October (europe-west2) and the Cloud Storage incident of 8 and 9 October didn't list it among affected products (30). Standard PayGo publishes usage tiers by 30-day spend with baseline throughput, 2,000,000 to 50,000,000 tokens a minute for Flash models and 500,000 to 10,000,000 for Pro, plus quota tables for other methods (15). A 429 page says to use the global endpoint and truncated exponential backoff, and a retry-strategy page (15). SLA of 99.5 per cent a month on generateContent and streamGenerateContent, 95 per cent for short-term availability models, and a latency SLO on Provisioned Throughput. The 429 page says pay-as-you-go 429s don't count toward the SLA error rate (10). Gemini 4 Argon reached GA on 13 October and Gemini 3.8 Flash moved to the 12-month tier, and the v1 API, 3.5 Flash-Lite and Claude Opus 5.5 are GA, but express mode was Preview at the 6 October check (9 of 10, up from 8). Up from 98 on 6 October.)
- Security & auth, Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) +47: Gemini Developer API 50 (Model reading. Keys live in a Cloud project. Since 28 May 2026 new keys are authorisation keys bound to a service account and restricted to the Gemini API, keys can be limited by IP or origin, unrestricted standard keys are rejected, and the docs give a leak checklist, per the API key page re-read on 1 November. No permission scopes, so 25 of 30, less 10 because the API reads a token from the URL. The Discovery document (revision 20261101) lists `access_token`, `oauth_token` and `key` as query parameters, and on 1 November a generateContent request with no credential answered 403 'Method doesn't allow unregistered callers' while one with a made-up `?access_token=` answered 401 'Request had invalid authentication credentials' (ACCESS_TOKEN_TYPE_UNSUPPORTED), the deduction Google APIs took on 17 October and 1 November and Gemini Embedding and Gemini Live carry (15 of 30). Terms (effective 23 March 2026, re-read 1 November) say free-tier prompts and responses are used to improve Google products and human reviewers may read them, paid tier isn't used (10 of 20). Abuse monitoring on paid services is kept 'a limited period' with no number, grounding data 30 days, and since 26 October new paid projects store Generate Content requests by default unless `store=false`. No zero-retention route on this API was found (5 of 15). Request logs in AI Studio for billed projects (15). security.txt on google.com valid to 2030-04-01 with a vulnerability reward programme, re-read on 1 November. No certification naming the Developer API found, the reading Gemini Embedding takes (5 of 20).); Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) 97 (Model reading. OAuth 2.0 with IAM roles and service accounts, which the docs recommend for production, with API keys for testing. No key in a query string found in the docs we read (30). The training restriction in the Service Specific Terms says Google won't use customer data to train or fine-tune any model without permission, GA and pre-GA alike (20). Default in-memory caching for 24 hours that can be disabled, flagged prompts logged up to 90 days unless an abuse-monitoring exception is granted or the customer has a Cloud Master Agreement, the Interactions API storing by default, and Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 requiring 30-day retention shared with Anthropic (12 of 15, a judgement call matching the Fable exception on the Anthropic and Bedrock listings). Cloud Audit Logs, with Data Access logs off until enabled, and optional request-response logging to BigQuery (15). google.com security.txt valid to 2030-04-01, the Google VRP, and Generative AI on the platform in ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 and SOC 1, 2 and 3 scope per the 1 October services-in-scope check for vertex-ai-tuning, not re-read on 6 October (20).)
- Transparency & trust, Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) +18: Gemini Developer API 72 (Closed service with clear terms, SDKs Apache-2.0 (15). Terms, pricing page and logs policy agree that free-tier data improves Google products and paid data doesn't, but abuse retention on paid services has no number, and the 26 October changelog entry turns on request storage by default for new paid projects while existing projects keep their setting (20 of 30). Deprecations table with earliest shutdown dates, exact dates promised later (15 of 20). Terms say data may be cached in any country where Google has facilities. No subprocessor list checked (5 of 20).); Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) 90 (Closed service under the Google Cloud terms, with the Gen AI SDKs under Apache-2.0 and a public discovery document (18, as for Bedrock's open service models). The zero data retention and abuse monitoring pages agree with the Cloud terms and give periods for each case, 24 hours in memory, up to 90 days for flagged prompts, 30 days for Advanced AI models, 3 days for Search grounding logs and 30 days for Maps grounding, and say which can't be switched off (27 of 30). A dated model versions table with release and retirement dates and a stated 12-month or 45-day policy, but on 6 November it still listed Gemini 2.5 Pro, Flash and Flash-Lite as available with a 20 October 2026 retirement date and left them out of the retired table (18 of 20, down from 20). The Cloud subprocessor list with locations, per the 1 October vertex-ai-tuning check, regional and multi-region endpoints, and per-model ML processing locations on the partner model cards (20).)
- Schema & documentation, Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) +9: Gemini Developer API 85 (A keyless Discovery document at generativelanguage.googleapis.com/$discovery/rest?version=v1beta (revision 20261101, re-read on 1 November) types 86 methods and 225 schemas for GenerateContent, files, batches, caching and models, but not the Interactions API the guides now lead with (20 of 25). llms.txt at ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/llms.txt, with Markdown twins of each page (10). Reference not read in full, and the changelog and latest-model guide name the recommended models (15 of 20). Structured output accepts JSON Schema with enums, `minimum`, `maximum`, `prefixItems` and `$ref`, but the server ignores `minLength`, `maxLength`, `minProperties`, `maxProperties` and `uniqueItems`, per the structured output page re-read on 1 November (10 of 15). Examples on every guide and an API errors page with HTTP, blocked and content codes (15). Dated changelog and model versions (15).); Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) 94 (Model reading. Keyless discovery document for the Agent Platform API v1, revision 20260930, with 1,128 methods and 1,493 schemas (25). No llms.txt, but every docs page answers as Markdown at `.md.txt`, counted as for vertex-ai-tuning (10). Model cards give limits, capabilities and retirement dates, and the 3.8 Flash card says when to use 3.7 Flash instead, but the docs mix the Vertex AI and Agent Platform names, and the OpenAI page tells new users to call the Gemini Developer API instead (16 of 20). Structured output with `response_schema` and `response_mime_type: application/json` always follows the schema per the docs, and complex schemas fail with a 400 (15). Examples on every page and a 429 guide, but we found no full error code list for generateContent (13 of 15). Versioned v1 and v1beta1 APIs and release notes with entries on most working days, newest 5 November 2026 (15).)
- Maintenance & community, Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) +8: Gemini Developer API 83 (Model reading. `gemini-4-argon` went GA on 13 October and the newest changelog entry, on 30 October, takes the Computer Use tool to GA (30). The deprecations page lists earliest possible shutdown dates and promises advance notice, with no stated minimum, and `deep-research-pro-preview-12-2025` was announced on 8 October for shutdown on 23 October (4 of 12). Shutdown dates in the 90 days from 3 August include Imagen 4 on 17 August, Robotics ER 1.6 on 31 August, `antigravity-preview-05-2026` on 5 October, the Veo 3.1 previews and `gemini-omni-flash-preview` on 22 October and `deep-research-pro-preview-12-2025` on 23 October, each in the table with a replacement, and 3.7 and 3.5 Flash were deprecated on 8 October with requests routed to newer models (4 of 8). 16 dated changelog entries from 13 August to 30 October (15 of 15). SDK repository replies not sampled (5 of 10). Current official SDKs, `google-genai` 2.34.0 and `@google/genai` 2.32.0, both tagged on 29 October, with releases about weekly through October (15). Supported runtimes stated, Python 3.11 and later since 2.34.0 dropped 3.10, Node 20 and later (10).); Vertex AI (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform) 91 (Model reading. Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash GA on 5 November, Grok 4.7 GA on 27 October, Gemini 4 Argon GA on 13 October and Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 October 2026 (30). Stable models stay at least 12 months, and since 6 October Gemini 4 Argon and Gemini 3.8 Flash are in that tier, while 3.7 and 3.6 Flash remain short-term with at least 45 days' notice once a date is set (10 of 12, up from 8). Gemini 2.5 Pro, Flash and Flash-Lite were due to retire on 20 October, three models on one date after more than 12 months, with replacements named. We didn't check partner model retirements (6 of 8, down from 8). Dated release notes on most working days, newest 5 November, and Cloud Customer Care (15). python-genai replies not sampled this run (5 of 10). Current SDKs, google-genai 3.0.0 on 6 November and `@google/genai` 3.0.0, and google-cloud-aiplatform 2.7.0 on 28 October 2026 (15). Supported runtimes stated, Python 3.10 or later and Node 20 or later, per the 6 October check (10). Unchanged at 91.)
