CI tests on three operating systems with clippy and fmt; the npm wrapper's postinstall downloads the binary and two Dependabot bumps are open (6 of 10). 10 + 0 + 8 + 5 + 6 = 29.\n- Kraken API (81): Read as a closed service with an open-source client. Changelog entry of 27 October 2026 and kraken-cli v0.5.1 on 29 October (30). Fourteen changelog entries since 19 August 2026 and CLI tags on 6 and 7 August and 28 and 29 October (20). A public changelog, api@kraken.com, a status page and a CLI repository merging pull requests at the end of October; issue replies not read (11 of 15). An official Rust SDK pushed in October 2026 and a Go module from January; the MCP server is not in the official registry (12 of 15). The CLI has release and secure SDLC workflows, deny.toml and a pinned toolchain; the SDK's CI not read (8 of 10). 30 + 20 + 11 + 12 + 8 = 81.\n\n### Schema \u0026 documentation: Kraken API +38\n\n- Crypto.com Exchange API (42): An OpenAPI spec exists, since cdcx-cli generates its 95 commands and tools from it at run time, but its host (exchange-developer.crypto.com) answered 403 to robots.txt and the spec was not read; the vendor's own tooling is evidence it exists, not of its quality (15 of 25). No llms.txt on crypto.com or the Exchange pages (0). For descriptions, cdcx's tool descriptions come from the spec, which we couldn't read; the Exchange skill documents 52 endpoints in prose (8 of 20). cdcx's README says the tools carry typed parameters and enum validation, a vendor claim not checked against the spec (8 of 15). For examples, the skills and cdcx README carry worked commands, but the API's error codes and response examples sit on the unread host (6 of 15). Versioned path (v1); the API changelog and announcements page could not be read (5 of 15). 15 + 0 + 8 + 8 + 6 + 5 = 42.\n- Kraken API (80): No OpenAPI file was found for the REST API in the docs read; the CLI's agents/tool-catalog.json gives JSON Schema inputs for all 188 commands and the 152 MCP tools (15 of 25). The docs serve Markdown twins such as quickstart.md and the CLI ships llms.txt, AGENTS.md and CONTEXT.md (10). Endpoint pages and guides on order lifecycle, errors and rate limits say what each call does, with less on when not to use one (15 of 20). Enums for order types, time in force and flags, and enums and required fields in the tool catalogue (12 of 15). Python, Node.js and cURL examples, an errors guide and the CLI's error-catalog.json with retry guidance (13 of 15). A changelog of 120 dated entries with deprecations dated (15). 15 + 10 + 15 + 12 + 13 + 15 = 80.\n\n### Agent ergonomics: Kraken API +29\n\n- Crypto.com Exchange API (50): Graded on the REST API as an agent calls it, with the MCP server noted. cdcx serves up to 95 tools, more than 30, but the default serves the `market` group alone and groups are enabled one by one, which is a read-only subset switch (5 + 10 = 15). Pagination and output controls for the API are on the unread docs host; cdcx adds `-o json|table|ndjson` (8 of 20). cdcx returns structured JSON errors and the safety gate names what is missing; the API's own error table is unread (8 of 20). cdcx's tiers (mutate needs `acknowledged: true`, dangerous needs `--allow-dangerous`), `--dry-run` and paper trading give safe rehearsal, though no MCP annotations or API idempotency keys were seen (12 of 20). No official SDK beyond the CLI; defaults in cdcx are sensible (7 of 15). 15 + 8 + 8 + 12 + 7 = 50.\n- Kraken API (79): The MCP server loads services with -s, defaults to no live trading, and its 152 tool definitions average about 520 characters; the REST API takes count, limit and pair filters but has no field selection (18 of 25). Cursor pagination on ledgers and trades since 30 September and 6 October 2026, with ofs deprecated (17 of 20). Prefixed error strings such as EOrder:Rate limit exceeded and EAPI:Invalid nonce, and the CLI's error catalogue says which to retry (17 of 20). cl_ord_id and validate on orders, destructive_hint and elicitation on dangerous MCP tools, no idempotency key on REST (16 of 20). An official Rust SDK at 5 stars, a Go module and example clients, HMAC-SHA512 signing with a strict nonce (11 of 15). 18 + 17 + 17 + 16 + 11 = 79.\n\n### Security \u0026 auth: Kraken API +26\n\n- Crypto.com Exchange API (54): HMAC-SHA256 API keys made with 2FA; IP whitelisting and pre-approved withdrawal addresses per the official skill, and revocation from the Exchange settings. The permission list (read, trade, withdraw) is on the unread docs host, so scopes are recorded from the skills (20 of 30). On least privilege, the App skill's key has no withdrawal permission, the Exchange skill requires user confirmation before a production trade, and cdcx refuses withdrawals and cancel-all without `--allow-dangerous`; nothing on the server side limits order size (14 of 20). The tools return exchange data, not third-party text, but no guidance on untrusted content was found (6 of 15). An account audit trail is not documented where we could read (4 of 15). No security.txt on crypto.com; cdcx has a SECURITY.md with private reporting and a three-day acknowledgement, and the organisation keeps HackerOne policy guidelines; certifications were not read (10 of 20). 20 + 14 + 6 + 4 + 10 = 54.\n- Kraken API (80): Keys with nine named permissions, optional expiry, IP restriction and nonce window, plus an OAuth sign-in from the CLI (authorisation code with PKCE, public client) that mints a no-withdrawal key expiring within 90 days or a read-only key (30). Read-only and no-withdrawal keys, position limits and pair allowlists in account settings, and MCP approval prompts for 33 dangerous tools (18 of 20). The API returns no untrusted content; the CLI docs warn that the feedback tool uploads a local file without approval (10). Keys and their permissions are listed in settings and ledgers record activity, but no per-call log for the operator was found (6 of 15). A valid security.txt, a bug bounty policy page, SECURITY.md and a secure SDLC workflow in the CLI; certifications not read (16 of 20). 30 + 18 + 10 + 6 + 16 = 80.\n\n### Reliability: Kraken API +17\n\n- Crypto.com Exchange API (50): Read with the hosted lines on the Exchange API at api.crypto.com. status.crypto.com is a Statuspage site with component history (20). Its feed for 18 August to 3 November 2026 has 25 entries; the Exchange is named in two, an 11-minute database upgrade on 18 August and a one-hour balance display issue on 6 October, while the longer disruptions (Android login on 1 and 5 October, card 3DS on 23 September, Main App predictions on 3 November) are App incidents. There is no Exchange API component, so the record may be incomplete. Minor only (20). Rate limits are documented on exchange-docs.crypto.com, which answered 403 to robots.txt and was not read (0, unchecked). 429 handling and client order ids are on the same host (0, unchecked). No SLA found (0). Generally available (10). 20 + 20 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 10 = 50.\n- Kraken API (67): Read with the hosted lines on the spot API. status.kraken.com is a Statuspage site with REST, WebSocket and FIX components (20). The incidents feed read covers 4 September to 3 November 2026. On 30 October spot and derivatives clients could not connect or submit orders across web, mobile, REST, WebSocket and FIX for 59 minutes 39 seconds, rated minor by Kraken; on 28 October some FIX clients were rejected on reconnection for 1 hour 59 minutes while other interfaces worked; the futures engine was degraded for 3 minutes on 13 October. A whole-exchange order outage 21 seconds short of an hour is read as one major (10 of 30). Numeric limits per key by tier and per pair for the matching engine (15). EAPI:Rate limit exceeded and EService:Throttled with a retry timestamp, a client order id and a validate flag on orders, but no Retry-After header (12 of 15). No SLA (0). Generally available (10). 20 + 10 + 15 + 12 + 0 + 10 = 67.\n\n### Transparency \u0026 trust: Kraken API +10\n\n- Crypto.com Exchange API (55): The editorial half. A closed service whose terms and trading rules loaded empty for our reader; cdcx and the skills are MIT or Apache-2.0 (10 of 30). The Exchange privacy notice of 12 March 2025 names Foris DAX Limited, gives retention examples (6 years for correspondence, 5 years for EEA AML records) and provider categories, with no DPA or subprocessor list (16 of 30). No deprecation policy or notice period was found (0). Transfers outside the Cayman Islands and the EEA are stated with no countries named (6 of 20). 10 + 16 + 0 + 6 = 32.\n- Kraken API (65): The editorial half. A closed service with clear terms naming regional Payward entities under California law; the CLI is MIT (15 of 30). The privacy notice was not read (5 of 30). The changelog dates deprecations and the terms carry a last-updated date (16 of 20). No subprocessor or data-location statement read (0 of 20). 15 + 5 + 16 + 0 = 36.\n\n## Score by category\n\n| Category | Weight | Crypto.com Exchange API | Kraken API | Edge |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 50 | 67 | Kraken API +17 |\n| Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run |\n| Schema \u0026 documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 42 | 80 | Kraken API +38 |\n| Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 50 | 79 | Kraken API +29 |\n| Security \u0026 auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 54 | 80 | Kraken API +26 |\n| Payments \u0026 pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 40 | 40 | even |\n| Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run |\n| Maintenance \u0026 community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 29 | 81 | Kraken API +52 |\n| Transparency \u0026 trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 55 | 65 | Kraken API +10 |\n| Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | 0 | |\n| **Total** | | **46.8 · D** | **71 · BB** | |\n\n## Facts side by side\n\n| Fact | Crypto.com Exchange API | Kraken API |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API |\n| Vendor | Foris DAX Limited (Crypto.com) | Payward, Inc. |\n| Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | no (local only) |\n| Transports | stdio | stdio |\n| Auth | API key | OAuth or key |\n| Pricing | Pay per use | Pay per use |\n| x402 | no | no |\n| Licence | Proprietary hosted API under the Exchange terms and conditions, which our reader couldn't load. cdcx-cli, the official CLI and MCP server, is MIT or Apache-2.0 | Proprietary hosted service under Kraken's Global Terms of Service (30 October 2026). kraken-cli, which carries the kraken-mcp server, is MIT |\n| Tools exposed | 95 | 152 |\n| Read-only variant documented | no | yes |\n| llms.txt | no | yes |\n| Last release | 2026-06-18 | 2026-10-29 |\n| Terms last updated | couldn't be read | 2026-10-30 |\n| Privacy policy last updated | 2025-03-12 | 2026-10-21 |\n| Customer content may train models | couldn't be read | not found in the text |\n| Terms restrict automated access | couldn't be read | yes |\n| Terms restrict benchmarking | couldn't be read | yes |\n| Terms or service can change without notice | couldn't be read | yes |\n| Arbitration or class-action waiver | couldn't be read | yes |\n| Popularity | 27 stars, 59 npm/wk | 795 stars |\n\n## Verdicts\n\n**Crypto.com Exchange API.** Crypto.com is one of two exchanges here with an official MCP server, cdcx-cli, whose 95 generated tools are grouped by service and gated by safety tier. The API docs, OpenAPI file, terms and trading rules refused or hid from our reader, so rate limits, key permissions and the automated-trading clauses are unchecked, and cdcx has no release since June 2026.\n\n**Kraken API.** Kraken pairs a documented REST, WebSocket and FIX API with the open-source kraken-cli, whose kraken-mcp server gates 33 dangerous tools behind approval and signs in by OAuth with a no-withdrawal key. Spot has no self-service sandbox, no OpenAPI file was found, and a 59-minute connectivity outage hit every interface on 30 October 2026.\n\n## Before you call either\n\n### Crypto.com Exchange API\n\n1. Enable only the service groups the task needs with `cdcx mcp config --enable trade, account` (the default serves `market` alone), and leave `--allow-dangerous` off unless the person asks for withdrawals or cancel-all\n2. Rehearse on `--env uat` or `cdcx paper` first; production keys trade real funds, and the skill requires explicit user confirmation before each live order\n3. Put the key in CDCX_API_KEY and CDCX_API_SECRET or `~/.config/cdcx/config.toml` at 0600; there is no key flag, and the key should have no withdrawal permission and an IP allow-list\n4. Pass `acknowledged: true` on mutate tools and `--dry-run` while testing; read the tool's generated schema before calling, since the docs host is unreadable to agents without a browser\n5. Check the person's country against Crypto.com's geo-restriction article and the Exchange terms before trading; New York and about 70 countries are excluded from the App, and the Exchange list was unreadable\n\n### Kraken API\n\n1. Start kraken-mcp with -s market, paper, feedback or the default services; add trade only with a least-privilege key, and never pass --allow-dangerous on an agent that reads untrusted input\n2. Ask the person to run kraken auth login in their own terminal; it needs a browser and saves a no-withdrawal key that expires in 90 days at most\n3. Send a fresh --cl-ord-id on each order and run it with --validate first; after a network error look the order up before sending it again\n4. Keep the nonce strictly increasing per key and stay under the tier's counter, since EAPI:Rate limit exceeded has no Retry-After header\n5. Test strategies in a paper workspace, which fills at live prices with no account, before a live workspace\n\n## Questions\n\n### Which is better for AI agents, Crypto.com Exchange API or Kraken API?\n\nKraken API scores 71 (BB) on agent readiness against Crypto.com Exchange API's 46.8 (D), and leads in 6 of 7 scored categories.\n\n### Do Crypto.com Exchange API and Kraken API need an API key?\n\nCrypto.com Exchange API needs an API key. Kraken API takes an API key or an OAuth sign-in.\n\n### Can an agent call Crypto.com Exchange API and Kraken API without installing anything?\n\nCrypto.com Exchange API runs on your own machine, with no hosted endpoint listed. Kraken API runs on your own machine, with no hosted endpoint listed.\n\n\n## For agents\n\n- This comparison as JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/crypto-com-exchange-vs-kraken.json, and with the fewest tokens: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/crypto-com-exchange-vs-kraken.min.md\n- Over MCP at https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp (no key): `compare_tools {\"a\": \"crypto-com-exchange\", \"b\": \"kraken\"}`.
