Ahead on: - Reliability, 66 against 52 - Security & auth, 74 against 47 - Payments & pricing, 30 against 15 - Maintenance & community, 76 against 42 - Transparency & trust, 77 against 61 Also in its favour: - Runs on your own machine - No incidents deducted, where Hyperbolic loses 3 points for them Watch for: No idempotency key or safe-retry guidance was found for create and delete calls, which return asynchronous operations to poll. ### Hyperbolic (D) Good for: Agents that rent whole H100, H200 or B200 machines or multi-node clusters for training and batch work and that have a funded account. Ahead on: - Agent ergonomics, 55 against 45 Watch for: API keys carry no scopes or expiry in the reviewed documentation, and the same key can call `DELETE /v2/users/me` ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Crusoe Cloud | Hyperbolic | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 66 | 52 | Crusoe Cloud +14 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 79 | 77 | Crusoe Cloud +2 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 45 | 55 | Hyperbolic +10 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 74 | 47 | Crusoe Cloud +27 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 30 | 15 | Crusoe Cloud +15 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 76 | 42 | Crusoe Cloud +34 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 77 | 61 | Crusoe Cloud +16 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | -3 | | | **Total** | | **63.4 · B** | **48 · D** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Crusoe Cloud | Hyperbolic | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API | | Vendor | Crusoe | Hyperbolic Labs, Inc. | | Hosted endpoint | `https://api.cloud.crusoe.ai/v1` | `https://api.hyperbolic.ai` | | Transports | HTTP, stdio | HTTP | | Auth | API key | API key | | Pricing | Pay per use | Pay per use | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Proprietary service under the Crusoe Cloud Platform Terms of Service. No idempotency keys or control-plane rate limits were found, spot and B200 prices go through sales, and a storage outage in eu-norway1 lasted about four hours on 29 September 2026. **Hyperbolic.** The API serves its own OpenAPI 3.1 document without a key, lists GPU prices on an open endpoint and dates the removal of legacy paths at 1 March 2027. API keys carry no scopes and can delete the account, rental creation has no idempotency key, and renting needs a browser signup and a $5 deposit. ## Before you call either ### Crusoe Cloud 1. Sign every request. Build the payload from path, sorted query string, verb and `X-Crusoe-Timestamp`, HMAC-SHA256 it with the base64url-decoded secret, and send `Authorization: Bearer 1.0::`. 2. Use `https://api.cloud.crusoe.ai/v1`. Some docs pages and the MCP server still name `api.crusoecloud.com` and `/v1alpha5`. 3. Creates, updates and deletes return an operation. Poll the matching operations endpoint for `state`, and list existing resources by name before retrying a create, because no idempotency key was found. 4. Managed AI uses separate Intelligence API keys and hosts, `api.inference.crusoecloud.com` for OpenAI-compatible calls and `api.intelligence.crusoecloud.com` for files and fine-tuning jobs. 5. Delete a VM and its disks to stop charges. A stopped on-demand VM is not billed for compute, but its 128 GB OS disk still bills at $0.08 a GiB-month. ### Hyperbolic 1. Read `GET /v2/on-demand/rental-options` first. It needs no key and lists what can be rented now, with `costPerHourCents` per GPU configuration. 2. Send `rentalType` and `gpuCount` to `POST /v2/on-demand/rentals`. Region defaults to `us-central-1` and GPU type to `h100`, so set both from the options list. 3. List active rentals before retrying a failed create call. There is no idempotency key and every ready rental bills hourly. 4. Save an SSH public key with `POST /v2/ssh-keys` before renting. Without `sshPublicKeyIds` the newest saved key is attached. 5. Do not create reserved rentals unless asked. They are paid in full up front and cannot be terminated early. ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Crusoe Cloud or Hyperbolic?
