Keys are organisation-wide with no scopes, and the API has no changelog or deprecation policy.\n\n**OpenAI Image API.** Generation, mask edits and multi-reference edits on the same models, via the Image API or the Responses tool. No per-image price for GPT Image 2.5, and the cost calculator doesn't cover it.\n\n## Before you call either\n\n### Bria API\n\n1. Send the key in the `api_token` header, not as `Authorization: Bearer`. Only `/v2/image/verify` and `/v2/video/verify` work without it\n2. Expect `202` with `request_id` and `status_url` from v2 endpoints. Poll `GET /v2/status/{request_id}` every 1 to 2 seconds, or pass `sync: true`\n3. Status polls count towards the per-endpoint limit (10 a minute on Free, 60 on Pay-as-you-go), so prefer `webhook_url` for batches\n4. Download results promptly. Image URLs expire after 3 days by default, and legacy `/v1/product/*` results after 1 hour\n5. Do not resend a failed `POST` blindly. There is no idempotency key, and the SDKs retry status polls only\n\n### OpenAI Image API\n\n1. Pin `quality` and `size`. `auto` makes cost and latency vary per call\n2. Read `usage` in the response to track image tokens, it's the only cost signal for GPT Image 2.5\n3. Don't retry `moderation_blocked` or `image_generation_user_error`. Change the prompt first\n4. Honour `Retry-After` on 429 and add jitter, image limits are per minute and low at tier 1\n5. Move off gpt-image-1 before 2026-10-23 and off 1-mini, 1.5 and chatgpt-image-latest before 2026-12-01\n\n## Questions\n\n### Which is better for AI agents, Bria API or OpenAI Image API?\n\nOpenAI Image API scores 72.4 (BB) on agent readiness against Bria API's 63.7 (B), and leads in 4 of 7 scored categories. Bria API leads on payments \u0026 pricing.\n\n### Do Bria API and OpenAI Image API need an API key?\n\nBria API takes an API key or an OAuth sign-in. OpenAI Image API needs an API key.\n\n### Can an agent call Bria API and OpenAI Image API without installing anything?\n\nYes. Bria API has a hosted endpoint at https://engine.prod.bria-api.com/v2 and OpenAI Image API at https://api.openai.com/v1.\n\n\n## For agents\n\n- This comparison as JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/bria-vs-openai-image-api.json, and with the fewest tokens: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/bria-vs-openai-image-api.min.md\n- Over MCP at https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp (no key): `compare_tools {\"a\": \"bria\", \"b\": \"openai-image-api\"}`.
