The call returns a bearer token that lasts 60 minutes. Scope `SERVER_ACCESS` covers server calls and `CLIENT_ACCESS`, bound to one `userId`, is for the hosted Consent UI. An application can hold many named keys, each revocable, and permission sets limit a key to chosen endpoints. The docs advise rotating keys every 90 days. Dashboard logins support 2FA by text message and SAML single sign-on on request. Live Open Banking data is switched on by Basiq's customer success team after a contract. The MCP server at api.basiq.io/mcp listed its tools with no credential, and its `execute-request` tool takes API credentials as headers set in the MCP client.",

The home page does not link that page, so the figures may be out of date. The page does not state the currency, and the Terms of Service say all amounts are in Australian dollars. A user is billable for the full month once created. Plans run for at least 12 months and volume discounts go through sales. Live access needs a 12-month plan with an unpublished platform access fee, no SLA or security.txt was found, and the privacy policy says collected content may be kept indefinitely.\n\n**MX Platform API.** Three public OpenAPI files, llms.txt, Markdown docs and a written version policy with 18 months of support and `Deprecation` and `Sunset` response headers. No price, client agreement or SLA is published, production keys need MX's approval, every calling IP address must be allowlisted, and the status page records three platform-wide error incidents since 10 July 2026.\n\n## Before you call either\n\n### Basiq\n\n1. Send the API key verbatim after `Basic` in the `Authorization` header of `POST /token`. Base64-encoding it returns a 400.\n2. Send `basiq-version: 3.0` on the token request, cache the bearer token for its 60 minutes, and stay under 1,500 token requests per 5 minutes.\n3. Send the account holder through the hosted Consent UI in a browser with a `CLIENT_ACCESS` token bound to their `userId`. The API alone cannot create a first connection on version 3.0.\n4. Poll `GET /jobs/{jobId}` until `verify-credentials`, `retrieve-accounts` and `retrieve-transactions` all read `success` before reading accounts or transactions.\n5. Follow `links.next` on `GET /users/{userId}/transactions`. A page holds at most 500 items, and pending transactions get new ids on each refresh.\n\n### MX Platform API\n\n1. Send `Accept: application/json`, `Accept-Version: v20260929` and Basic auth of `client_id:api_key` on every call. A missing version returns 406\n2. Ask the owner to allowlist the calling machine's static IP in the Client Dashboard first. Other addresses get 403, and some failed authentication returns 404\n3. Test against `https://int-api.mx.com` with institution `mxbank`, username `mxuser` and any password. It has no aggregation throttle\n4. Set your own `id` when creating users and members. A repeat returns 409, which makes a retried create safe\n5. Expect 202 without an error when a standard aggregation is throttled (three hours by default). Balance checks stop at 5 per member every 2 hours with 429\n6. Pass `includes[]=merchant` or `includes[]=category` as an array on transaction lists. A comma-separated string returns 400\n\n## Questions\n\n### Which is better for AI agents, Basiq or MX Platform API?\n\nMX Platform API scores 62.5 (B) on agent readiness against Basiq's 60.4 (C), and leads in 4 of 7 scored categories. Basiq leads on reliability, payments \u0026 pricing and transparency \u0026 trust.\n\n### Do Basiq and MX Platform API need an API key?\n\nBoth need an API key.\n\n### Can an agent call Basiq and MX Platform API without installing anything?\n\nYes. Basiq has a hosted endpoint at https://au-api.basiq.io and MX Platform API at https://api.mx.com.\n\n\n## For agents\n\n- This comparison as JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/basiq-vs-mx.json, and with the fewest tokens: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/basiq-vs-mx.min.md\n- Over MCP at https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp (no key): `compare_tools {\"a\": \"basiq\", \"b\": \"mx\"}`.
