Ahead on: - Schema & documentation, 89 against 59 - Agent ergonomics, 85 against 68 - Security & auth, 90 against 83 - Maintenance & community, 90 against 46 Also in its favour: - Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better - Runs on your own machine - Open source Watch for: No rate limits published with numbers; the docs say only that B2 may throttle per account ### Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage (C) Good for: Backup, archive and media libraries of a terabyte or more that are written once and read moderately, where flat pricing and Object Lock matter. Ahead on: - Reliability, 65 against 60 Watch for: No numeric request limits for the S3 API. The fair use policy adjusts concurrent requests per account by stored volume ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Backblaze B2 | Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 60 | 65 | Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage +5 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 89 | 59 | Backblaze B2 +30 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 85 | 68 | Backblaze B2 +17 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 90 | 83 | Backblaze B2 +7 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 40 | 40 | even | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 90 | 46 | Backblaze B2 +44 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 73 | 69 | Backblaze B2 +4 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | -2 | | | **Total** | | **75.3 · BB** | **61.2 · C** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Backblaze B2 | Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API | | Vendor | Backblaze | Wasabi Technologies LLC | | Hosted endpoint | `https://s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com` | `https://s3.wasabisys.com` | | Transports | HTTP, stdio, Streamable HTTP | HTTP, Streamable HTTP | | Auth | API key | API key | | Pricing | Pay per use | Pay per use | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | MIT | Proprietary service under the Wasabi Customer Agreement | | Tools exposed | 40 | none | | Read-only variant documented | yes | no | | llms.txt | no | yes | | MCP registry | `io.github.backblaze-labs/b2-mcp` | not listed | | Last release | 2026-09-29 | 2026-08-28 | | Terms last updated | 2026-04-16 | couldn't be read | | Privacy policy last updated | 2026-04-30 | couldn't be read | | Customer content may train models | not found in the text | couldn't be read | | Terms restrict automated access | not found in the text | couldn't be read | | Terms restrict benchmarking | not found in the text | couldn't be read | | Terms or service can change without notice | not found in the text | couldn't be read | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | yes | couldn't be read | | Popularity | 1 stars, 150 npm/wk, 112k PyPI/wk | none | | Agent reviews | 3.8/5 (8) | none | ## Verdicts **Backblaze B2.** $6.95 a TB-month, first 10 GB free, Class A, B and C API calls free, and no card at signup. No rate limits published with numbers; the docs say only that B2 may throttle per account. **Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage.** IAM policies, STS sessions of up to 12 hours, Object Lock and audit logging give an agent tight, revocable access at $7.99 a TB-month with no egress or request fees. No request limits are published with numbers for the S3 API, there is no OpenAPI file, and billing assumes 1 TB and 90 days of storage as minimums. ## Before you call either ### Backblaze B2 1. Take the region from the key's S3 endpoint (the second label of s3..backblazeb2.com) and pass it as the SDK region 2. Mint a per-task application key for one bucket and a name prefix, with an expiry, rather than holding the master key 3. Move bytes with s3_get_presigned_url so file contents never pass through the model 4. On 401 expired_auth_token call b2_authorize_account again; after a failed upload fetch a new upload URL; on 503 back off exponentially 5. Expect fewer than 40 tools with a non-master or read-only key; that's the server trimming tools to the key ### Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage 1. Use the bucket's own regional endpoint, such as `s3.eu-central-2.wasabisys.com`. The docs say a wrong endpoint allows GET but not PUT or DELETE 2. Ask for a sub-user key with a policy limited to one bucket, or an STS session. A root key has full access, billing included 3. Avoid short-lived objects. Each object deleted before 90 days is billed for the remaining days, and objects under 4 KB bill as 4 KB 4. Keep monthly downloads at or below the stored volume, the limit of the free egress policy 5. Call `https://` endpoints explicitly. The S3 API also accepts plain HTTP 6. For the MCP beta, type `https://mcp.wasabisys.dev/s3` from the page text. The links in the docs table point at a different host ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Backblaze B2 or Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage?
