Ahead on: - Security & auth, 64 against 50 Also in its favour: - A hosted endpoint, with nothing to install Watch for: No API rate limits, 429 handling or retry guidance found in the public Control Room API pages ### Robot Framework (BB) Good for: Agents that write or run keyword-driven test and RPA suites across web, desktop and mobile through libraries. Ahead on: - Reliability, 95 against 35 - Schema & documentation, 86 against 55 - Agent ergonomics, 78 against 60 - Payments & pricing, 60 against 15 - Maintenance & community, 90 against 66 Also in its favour: - Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better - No key needed to call it - Free to start without a card - Open source Watch for: Desktop and mobile control depend on separate libraries, such as AppiumLibrary and AutoItLibrary, maintained outside the core project ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Automation Anywhere | Robot Framework | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 35 | 95 | Robot Framework +60 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 55 | 86 | Robot Framework +31 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 60 | 78 | Robot Framework +18 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 64 | 50 | Automation Anywhere +14 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 15 | 60 | Robot Framework +45 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 66 | 90 | Robot Framework +24 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 73 | 76 | Robot Framework +3 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | 0 | | | **Total** | | **50.9 · D** | **76.4 · BB** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Automation Anywhere | Robot Framework | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | Agent framework | | Vendor | Automation Anywhere | Robot Framework Foundation | | Hosted endpoint | `https:///mcp` | no (local only) | | Transports | HTTP | | | Auth | OAuth or key | None | | Pricing | Freemium | Free | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Proprietary service under Automation Anywhere's customer agreement and product-specific terms | Apache-2.0 | | Tools exposed | 3 | none | | Read-only variant documented | no | no | | llms.txt | yes | yes | | Last release | 2026-10-07 | 2026-09-14 | | Terms last updated | 2018-11-05 | no document linked | | Privacy policy last updated | 2026-04-01 | no date given | | Customer content may train models | yes | | | Terms restrict automated access | not found in the text | | | Terms restrict benchmarking | not found in the text | | | Terms or service can change without notice | not found in the text | | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | not found in the text | | | Popularity | none | 12k stars, 776k PyPI/wk | ## Verdicts **Automation Anywhere.** The Control Room's /mcp endpoint gives an MCP client three standard tools to discover, run and read automations under RBAC, with each run in the audit log. No API rate limits, error catalogue, SLA or prices were found in public pages, and DiscoverAutomation and RunAutomation need an Enterprise licence with the Process Reasoning Engine in the US or Europe. **Robot Framework.** A stable 7.5 release, passing unit and acceptance tests, JSON schemas for results and library docs, and an llms.txt make it a dependable base for agent-written automation. Desktop and mobile control come from separate community libraries, there is no official MCP server, and no security policy or security.txt was found. ## Before you call either ### Automation Anywhere 1. Call DiscoverAutomation with a specific query such as `Discover automations to create invoice in SAP`. It returns at most nine matches 2. Keep the job ID from RunAutomation and poll GetAutomationResult until the status leaves Running/InProgress 3. Send either `X-Authorization` with a token from the Authentication API or `Authorization: Bearer` from OAuth, never both in one request 4. Match the case of every JSON parameter name. The Control Room API treats names as case-sensitive 5. Use the v4 WLM endpoints. Eight v3 WLM endpoints were deprecated in v.43 and end with v.46 ### Robot Framework 1. Install with `pip install robotframework` and check with `robot --version`. Add the library for the target app, such as AppiumLibrary, separately 2. Read the exit code. It is the number of failed tests or tasks up to 250, and 252, 253 or 255 mean bad input, a user stop or an internal error 3. Use `--dryrun` to validate a suite without running keywords, and `--rerunfailed output.xml` to repeat only failures 4. Convert results with `rebot --output output.json output.xml` for JSON that matches doc/schema/result.json 5. Keep secrets out of keyword arguments, because log.html records arguments unless keywords are removed with `--removekeywords` ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Automation Anywhere or Robot Framework?
