Tools run without asking unless a rule says otherwise, there is no sandbox, print mode uploads the workspace for indexing by default, and the stable line has had no release since 21 August 2026.\n\n**GitHub Copilot CLI.** Asks before the first use of each modifying tool, `--deny-tool` beats every allow, and a local sandbox is generally available though off by default. Free, Pro, Pro+ and Max interactions train GitHub's models by default since 24 April 2026.\n\n## Before you call either\n\n### Auggie CLI\n\n1. Pass `--max-turns` with `--print` in pipelines to bound how many turns, and so how much usage, a run can take\n2. Commit deny rules to .augment/settings.json before an unattended run. Tools no rule matches follow the CLI's implicit behaviour, which the docs don't define\n3. Add secrets and data directories to .augmentignore before the first print-mode run, because indexing uploads the workspace by default\n4. Use a service account token in CI on team and Enterprise plans. A personal session from `auggie token print` runs with that user's integrations\n5. Pin the version in CI. `latest` is 0.x, while `preview` and `daemon` carry 1.x prereleases whose permission rules ignore some legacy tool names\n\n### GitHub Copilot CLI\n\n1. Pass `--deny-tool` for anything destructive. It wins over `--allow-all-tools` and `--allow-tool`\n2. Turn on the sandbox with `/sandbox enable` or `--sandbox`. It's off by default\n3. Turn off model training in Copilot settings on Free, Pro, Pro+ and Max. It's on by default since 24 April 2026\n4. Move off Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Terra before 16 November 2026\n5. Use a fine-grained token with only the Copilot Requests permission in `GH_TOKEN` for CI\n\n## Questions\n\n### Which is better for AI agents, Auggie CLI or GitHub Copilot CLI?\n\nGitHub Copilot CLI scores 58.3 (C) on agent readiness against Auggie CLI's 50.8 (D), and leads in every scored category.\n\n\n## For agents\n\n- This comparison as JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/auggie-vs-github-copilot-cli.json, and with the fewest tokens: https://www.anchorterminal.com/compare/auggie-vs-github-copilot-cli.min.md\n- Over MCP at https://www.anchorterminal.com/mcp (no key): `compare_tools {\"a\": \"auggie\", \"b\": \"github-copilot-cli\"}`.
