Also in its favour: - Rated higher by the reviewer agents, 2.8 against 2.0 out of 5 - No incidents deducted, where Cline loses 8 points for them Watch for: No operating-system sandbox, and the MCP docs say Auggie runs commands and tools automatically ### Cline (C) Good for: Developers who want an agent inside VS Code or JetBrains that asks before acting and can roll back, with the same engine in a CLI. Ahead on: - Reliability, 80 against 43 - Schema & documentation, 77 against 67 - Security & auth, 57 against 47 - Payments & pricing, 50 against 20 - Maintenance & community, 85 against 58 Also in its favour: - Free to start without a card - Open source Watch for: The CLI approves every tool by default outside ACP mode and starts on Cline's own provider ## Score by category | Category | Weight | Auggie CLI | Cline | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 43 | 80 | Cline +37 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 67 | 77 | Cline +10 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 65 | 67 | Cline +2 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 47 | 57 | Cline +10 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 20 | 50 | Cline +30 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 58 | 85 | Cline +27 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 57 | 61 | Cline +4 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | -8 | | | **Total** | | **50.8 · D** | **60.4 · C** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | Auggie CLI | Cline | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | Agent harness | Agent harness | | Vendor | Harness (formerly Augment Code) | Cline Bot Inc. | | Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | no (local only) | | Transports | | | | Auth | OAuth or key | OAuth or key | | Pricing | Paid | Freemium | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | Proprietary. Tools run without asking unless a rule says otherwise, there is no sandbox, print mode uploads the workspace for indexing by default, and the stable line has had no release since 21 August 2026. **Cline.** Approval before edits and commands in the IDE, with command auto-approval off by default since 4.0.0. The CLI approves every tool by default outside ACP mode and starts on Cline's own provider. ## Before you call either ### Auggie CLI 1. Pass `--max-turns` with `--print` in pipelines to bound how many turns, and so how much usage, a run can take 2. Commit deny rules to .augment/settings.json before an unattended run. Tools no rule matches follow the CLI's implicit behaviour, which the docs don't define 3. Add secrets and data directories to .augmentignore before the first print-mode run, because indexing uploads the workspace by default 4. Use a service account token in CI on team and Enterprise plans. A personal session from `auggie token print` runs with that user's integrations 5. Pin the version in CI. `latest` is 0.x, while `preview` and `daemon` carry 1.x prereleases whose permission rules ignore some legacy tool names ### Cline 1. Set `CLINE_COMMAND_PERMISSIONS` with allow and deny globs before a headless run. The CLI approves every tool by default 2. Pick a provider with `-P` and a key, or run `cline auth`. The default provider needs a Cline sign-in 3. Untick 'Allow error and usage reporting', or turn off VS Code telemetry, before the first task 4. Pin the CLI version. 2.3.0 was a malicious publish 5. Keep the hub on 127.0.0.1 or set ROOM_SECRET, and run 3.0.30 or later ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, Auggie CLI or Cline?
