The agent sends messages, creates scheduled tasks and calls MCP tools without asking\n\n### Dots (F)\n\nGood for: A ChatGPT Pro or Enterprise user who wants ongoing work tracked across mail, documents, code and Slack with approval before sends.\n\nAhead on:\n- Security \u0026 auth, 58 against 44\n\nWatch for: Beta. The admin setting is labelled Use dots (Beta), access is rolling out gradually, and Teams access is an invite-only alpha\n\n\n## Score by category\n\n| Category | Weight | AstrBot | Dots | Edge |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 81 | 3 | AstrBot +78 |\n| Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run |\n| Schema \u0026 documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 62 | 41 | AstrBot +21 |\n| Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 54 | 22 | AstrBot +32 |\n| Security \u0026 auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 44 | 58 | Dots +14 |\n| Payments \u0026 pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 60 | 10 | AstrBot +50 |\n| Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run |\n| Maintenance \u0026 community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 81 | 38 | AstrBot +43 |\n| Transparency \u0026 trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 40 | 31 | AstrBot +9 |\n| Negative events | ≤15 | -2 | 0 | |\n| **Total** | | **58.8 · C** | **28.3 · F** | |\n\n## Facts side by side\n\n| Fact | AstrBot | Dots |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Kind | Agent harness | Platform |\n| Vendor | AstrBotDevs | OpenAI |\n| Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | no (local only) |\n| Transports | | |\n| Auth | OAuth or key | OAuth or key |\n| Pricing | Free | Paid |\n| x402 | no | no |\n| Licence | AGPL-3.0-or-later | Proprietary hosted service. No tool call asks for approval, no mail, calendar or long-term memory connector is built in, and usage statistics, including the machine's hostname, are sent by default.\n\n**Dots.** Actions that affect accounts or share information pass an automatic review, and custom rules can require approval or a hand-off. Dots is a beta on Pro plans from $100 a month, and no status page, terms, privacy policy or way to delete individual saved notes was found in the pages we could read.\n\n## Before you call either\n\n### AstrBot\n\n1. Set `ASTRBOT_DISABLE_METRICS=1` before the first start. Statistics, including the hostname, are sent to tickstats.soulter.top by default\n2. Set `dashboard.host` to 127.0.0.1 in `data/cmd_config.json`, or the `DASHBOARD_HOST` variable, unless remote access is intended. The default is 0.0.0.0\n3. Create an `abk_` key in Settings, OpenAPI with only the scopes needed, and send it as `Authorization: Bearer` or `X-API-Key`\n4. Include `username` in every `POST /api/v1/chat` body. Without the `chat:admin` scope an administrator ID is rejected\n5. Check Extensions, Future Tasks after asking for a schedule. One-off tasks are deleted after their run even when the run fails\n\n### Dots\n\n1. Say what may be sent. Asking a dot to draft replies does not permit sending them, and an action outside a stated scope needs another decision\n2. Stop three things separately. Pause stops the main task only, delegated tasks stop in Activity and recurring tasks in Scheduled, and completed actions are not undone\n3. Connect each thing separately. A messaging channel grants no access to an inbox, an app or a computer\n4. Sign out of websites and disconnect apps yourself when removing access. Revoking dots access or disconnecting an app does not delete information already obtained\n5. Keep the connected computer online with the ChatGPT app open for local work. Only one personal computer can be connected at a time\n\n## Questions\n\n### Which is better for AI agents, AstrBot or Dots?\n\nAstrBot scores 58.8 (C) on agent readiness against Dots's 28.3 (F), and leads in 6 of 7 scored categories.
