## Which one, for what

### Amazon Bedrock (A)

Good for: Teams already on AWS who want Claude, GPT-6, Nova, Llama and other models under one IAM, billing and VPC boundary, with regional data controls and an SLA.

Ahead on:
- Reliability, 80 against 58
- Schema & documentation, 94 against 74
- Agent ergonomics, 92 against 65
- Security & auth, 98 against 54
- Maintenance & community, 81 against 71
- Transparency & trust, 85 against 58

Also in its favour:
- Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better

Watch for: An AWS account, IAM setup and a Region choice come before the first call, and an agent can't sign up alone

### Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (C)

Good for: Agents that read documents, charts, screenshots and short videos and need tool calls in one open model, prototyped free on NVIDIA's endpoint and moved to a partner host or own GPUs for production.

Ahead on:
- Payments & pricing, 35 against 30

Also in its favour:
- Free to start without a card

Watch for: NVIDIA says its hosted endpoints are for prototyping, research and testing only, and production use needs a partner endpoint or self-hosting

## Why the edge

### Security & auth: Amazon Bedrock +44

- Amazon Bedrock (98): Model reading. IAM with SigV4, roles and STS session credentials, policies down to a model or inference-profile ARN, short-term API keys that expire within 12 hours, long-term keys with expiry and reset, and condition keys that can deny bearer tokens altogether (30). The security page says customer data isn't shared with model providers or used to improve the base models (20). The abuse detection page says Bedrock stores no inputs or outputs by default, and a per-Region `none` mode blocks models that require retention, but Claude Fable 5 and 5.1 keep all traffic up to 30 days and GPT-6 and GPT-5.x keep flagged traffic up to 30 days (13 of 15, a judgement call; Anthropic's own API got 12 for the same Fable exception without an account-level block). CloudTrail logs API calls, and model invocation logging can send prompts and responses to S3 or CloudWatch Logs (15). Bedrock is in ISO, SOC and CSA STAR Level 2 scope, HIPAA eligible and FedRAMP High in GovCloud (US-West) per its security page, with a vulnerability disclosure programme on HackerOne, and the aws.amazon.com security.txt, expired on 6 October, was renewed with Expires 2027-10-16 when read on 6 November (20). Up from 96 on 6 October for that reason.
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (54): Model reading. `nvapi-` bearer keys sent in a header. NVIDIA's NGC docs say personal keys are limited to the services and role chosen at creation and take an expiry, and service keys can be scoped to actions (25 of 30). Inference only, with no write operation, but no zero-retention option for the hosted trial was found, and the model page asks callers not to send confidential or personal data (8 of 20). The model reads web pages, PDFs and images an agent passes it, and NVIDIA publishes safety, bias and privacy subcards, but no prompt-injection guidance or results were found (5 of 15). No per-call log for API callers was found, only rate limits shown in the account (3 of 15). NVIDIA PSIRT runs coordinated disclosure and publishes security bulletins, linked from the card, the reading nvidia-nemo-retriever and nemo-guardrails give the same programme (13). www.nvidia.com/.well-known/security.txt answered 403 per the 2 November check and build.nvidia.com has none, and no certification or bug bounty for the API catalogue was found (13 of 20). 25+8+5+3+13 = 54.

### Agent ergonomics: Amazon Bedrock +27

- Amazon Bedrock (92): Model reading of the checklist (tool use, structured output, caching, context, batch, SDKs, errors). Converse takes tools with `toolChoice` auto, any or a named tool and `strict: true`, but forced choice depends on the model behind it (17 of 20). Structured outputs on supported models only (13 of 15). Explicit and implicit prompt caching, cache reads at $0.20 per million on Opus 5.5, 0.05x input, with 5-minute and 1-hour TTLs (15). 1M-token context on Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Nova 2 Lite, a judgement call since Bedrock has no default model (15). Batch at half price on supported models, but the pricing page shows none for Opus 5.5 or Sonnet 5.5, while Flex is half price on Nova (7 of 10). AWS SDKs in every major language plus token generators for Python, JavaScript and Java (10). Typed errors with recovery advice per code (15).
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (65): Model reading of the checklist (tool use, structured output, caching, context, batch, SDKs, errors). OpenAI-format tools, `tool_choice` auto, none, required or a named function, and parallel calls on by default (20 of 20). `response_format` with `json_schema` and `strict` in the OpenAPI file. Not tested by us (12 of 15). The card describes prefix caching for self-hosted serving, but no caching on the hosted endpoint is documented (2 of 10). 1M tokens in the weights, but the hosted page lists 262K, and completions are capped at 131,072 tokens (12 of 15). No batch mode (0 of 10). Any OpenAI SDK works with the base URL, and NVIDIA maintains `langchain-nvidia-ai-endpoints`. Only `messages` is required, but reasoning defaults to on at high effort and the reference defaults `stream` to true (10 of 15). Errors carry a message, type and request id, with no 429 or rate-limit body documented (9 of 15). 65.

### Transparency & trust: Amazon Bedrock +27

- Amazon Bedrock (85): Closed service under the AWS Customer Agreement and Service Terms, with the SDKs and Smithy models under Apache-2.0 (18, as for S3). The data retention, abuse detection and security pages agree that Bedrock stores nothing by default, name the models that retain traffic and for how long, and say retained data isn't shared with providers. The retention page's `default` mode says AWS 'may retain the data for safety and abuse-prevention purposes' without a period, and a legacy `provider_data_share` mode is kept though sharing isn't supported (25 of 30). A written lifecycle policy with Legacy and EOL dates per model, but the legacy table's 34-day Legacy periods for five Claude models in some Regions contradict its own 6-month floor (15 of 20, down from 18). AWS's sub-processor list, per the 4 October S3 check, and per-Region, geographic and global inference options, with global routing able to process data in any commercial Region (18 of 20).
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (58): Weights under OpenMDW-1.1, a short permissive licence from the Linux Foundation with no field-of-use limits, but not an OSI licence. Datasets and training recipes are released. The hosted trial is under terms we couldn't read, and the OpenAPI file names a different model licence and the AI Enterprise EULA (22 of 30). NVIDIA's privacy policy (22 September 2025) doesn't address API prompts. The model page says use is logged for security and to improve NVIDIA products, with improvement data not linked to identity, and gives no retention period. The trial terms that may say more were unread (8 of 30). No deprecation policy or dated notices for catalogue models. The page carries an `isDeprecated` flag only (3 of 20). The quickstart says hosted endpoints run on NVIDIA DGX Cloud, but no subprocessors or data locations for the catalogue were found (5 of 20). `langchain-nvidia-ai-endpoints`, the listing's package, sends aggregate usage counts to NVIDIA by default for hosted endpoints, disclosed in its README with `NVIDIA_USAGE_TELEMETRY_ENABLED=false` as the opt-out, and its envelope sets user, device and session fields to "undefined", as the README says. Disclosed, so no term. 22+8+3+5 = 38.

### Reliability: Amazon Bedrock +22

- Amazon Bedrock (80): AWS Health Dashboard with per-service, per-Region feeds and a public history file (20). The history lists Amazon Bedrock as disrupted in ME-CENTRAL-1 (UAE) and ME-SOUTH-1 (Bahrain) since March 2026, where AWS said on 15 September 2026 (still inside the 90-day window on 6 November) that it can't restore resources held only there. No other Bedrock event appears in the history in the 90 days to 6 November; an EU-SOUTH-2 packet-loss event on 4 October named Bedrock AgentCore, not Bedrock. This counts as one major event (10). StatusGator's third-party mirror shows 'Increased Error Rates' warnings on 24, 26 and 27 August and 10 September that we couldn't find in AWS's own history, so we didn't score them. Per-model token quotas with default values in the AWS General Reference, such as 30,000,000 tokens a minute for Opus 5.5 global inference (15). The error guide gives exponential backoff with jitter for 429, 503 and 529 and says to honour `Retry-After`, and the SDKs retry ModelNotReadyException up to five times (15). SLA of 99.9 per cent a month per Region for the model APIs, last updated 4 October 2023 (10). Converse and the current Claude, GPT-6 and Nova 2 Lite models are GA (10).
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (58): Hosted reading, for NVIDIA's trial endpoint. status.ngc.nvidia.com is a Statuspage site with NVIDIA Build and Cloud Functions components and a readable history (20). In the 90 days to 4 November, re-read from history.atom, two incidents, both minor for an API caller, and none posted since 29 September. SMS verification for NVIDIA Build was unavailable in China from 23 to 29 September, which affects sign-up, and on 10 August new Cloud Functions deployments failed for about three hours while existing deployments kept running (20). build.nvidia.com gives limits of up to 40 requests a minute and 10,000 a day, and says they vary by model and with other users' traffic (12 of 15). The OpenAPI file documents a 202 pending result with an `NVCF-REQID` to poll, but no 429, Retry-After or backoff guidance, and NVIDIA's FAQ says to expect long waits under load (3 of 15). No SLA for the trial. NVIDIA's SLAs come with AI Enterprise for self-hosted software (0). The card says v1.0 GA, but the hosted page calls the model early access and NVIDIA calls the catalogue a trial for prototyping only (3 of 10). The model page re-read on 4 November still says early access, with a free endpoint marked available and 40 rpm. 20+20+12+3+0+3 = 58.

### Schema & documentation: Amazon Bedrock +20

- Amazon Bedrock (94): Model reading. No OpenAPI, but the bedrock-runtime and bedrock Smithy models are public in aws/api-models-aws with types, required members and enums, counted as for S3 (25). llms.txt for the user guide with about 2,000 lines, each page with a Markdown twin (10). Model cards state context, output limits, endpoints and supported functions per model, and the guide now recommends `bedrock-runtime` for new work, but support for each API, endpoint and feature changes model by model (16 of 20). Structured outputs compile JSON Schema to a grammar, with `minimum`, `maximum` and string lengths supported, though some inference profiles don't support it, such as Haiku 4.5 through the India profile (13 of 15). Every operation lists typed errors with HTTP codes and links to a troubleshooting page with causes and fixes, and examples run through the guide (15). API version 2023-09-30 and a dated document history with an RSS feed, newest entry 30 October 2026, with structured outputs for Claude on both endpoints added on 18 October (15).
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (74): Model reading. An OpenAPI 3.1 file for this model's `/chat/completions` on docs.api.nvidia.com, with typed request and response schemas (25). build.nvidia.com/llms.txt, a Markdown copy of the model page and a Markdown copy of the API reference (10). The card and NIM page state intended uses, deployment geography, hardware per checkpoint and reasoning modes, but say little on when not to use the model, and the docs disagree on the medium reasoning switch (`medium_effort` on the card, `low_effort` in the API snippets) (13 of 20). Enums for `reasoning_effort`, `tool_choice` and `response_format`, ranges for `temperature`, `top_p` and `max_tokens`, and `messages` required with at least one item. `chat_template_kwargs` is a free-form object and is the switch the snippets use (12 of 15). Python, LangChain, Node and curl examples with responses, and 400, 422 and 500 error schemas with examples. No 429 (11 of 15). No changelog for the catalogue or the model. The OpenAPI version is 1.0.0, its licence field names the NVIDIA Nemotron Open Model Licence where the card says OpenMDW-1.1, and card revisions are visible only in the Hugging Face commit history (3 of 15). 74.

### Maintenance & community: Amazon Bedrock +10

- Amazon Bedrock (81): Model reading. The last model or API change is 30 October 2026 (OpenAI model API support and cross-Region inference in GovCloud), after structured outputs for Claude on both endpoints on 18 October (30). Models launched since 7 September 2026 get a 6-month or 45-day Legacy period, but the legacy page, which promises at least 6 months in Legacy, lists Claude 3 Haiku, 3 Sonnet, 3.5 Sonnet, 3.5 Sonnet v2 and 3.7 Sonnet as Legacy from 10 or 13 October with end of life on 13 November in several Regions, about 34 days (6 of 12, down from 10). Six models reached end of life in the 90 days to 6 November on five dates, Command R and R+ on 19 August, Claude 3 Haiku on 10 September, Nova Sonic on 14 September, Nova Canvas and Nova Reel on 30 September and Claude Sonnet 4 on 14 October (3 of 8, down from 4). Dated document history several times a month, What's New and re:Post, with direct support on a paid plan (12 of 15). SDK issue replies not sampled (5 of 10). Current official SDKs, boto3 1.43.125 on 5 November and `@aws-sdk/client-bedrock-runtime` 3.1163.0 (15). Supported runtimes stated, Python 3.10 or later and Node 20 or later (10). Down from 86 on 6 October.
- Nemotron 3.5 Super VL (71): Released on 15 October 2026. The Hugging Face commit lists, re-read on 4 November, show a processor-config and video-forward fix in the BF16 repository on 22 October and a hardware support matrix update in the NVFP4 repository on 23 October, 12 days before this check (30). NVIDIA released three Nemotron 3.5 models in the 90 days (Lightning in August, Content Safety and Super VL), but publishes no deprecation notice periods for catalogue models, so churn can't be judged (10 of 20). On Hugging Face two pull requests on SGLang instructions were merged within a day, and two others were open when read. Support for the free tier is the developer forum (15 of 25). NVIDIA maintains `langchain-nvidia-ai-endpoints` (1.5.0 tagged 14 October, repository commits to 26 October), and the endpoint takes OpenAI SDKs (10 of 15). Day-one recipes for vLLM 0.32.0, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM and a NIM container, though the card's vLLM command also names a nightly image (6 of 10). 30+10+15+10+6 = 71.

## Verdicts

**Amazon Bedrock.** Bedrock reaches Claude, GPT-6, Nova, Llama and other families through one IAM-controlled API, with a 99.9 per cent SLA and a per-Region zero-retention switch. Setup needs an AWS account, IAM permissions and a Region, capabilities vary by model, and some Regions gave five older Claude models about 34 days of notice.

**Nemotron 3.5 Super VL.** NVIDIA's free endpoint takes OpenAI-format requests with typed tool calls, JSON Schema output and an OpenAPI 3.1 file, and the weights run anywhere under a permissive licence. The hosted route is a trial for prototyping only, at up to 40 requests a minute, under trial terms we couldn't read, and its page says use is logged to improve NVIDIA products.

## Before you call either

### Amazon Bedrock

1. Use the geographic or global inference ID from the model card, such as `global.anthropic.claude-opus-5-5`. Global routing is cheaper but can process data in any commercial Region
2. Set `data_retention_mode` to `none` in each Region before sending sensitive data. Models that need retention then return ValidationException
3. Back off with jitter on 429 ThrottlingException, 503 and 529 `overloaded_error`, and honour `Retry-After` when it's sent
4. Generate short-term API keys from an IAM role for production. Long-term keys create an IAM user and AWS marks them exploration only
5. Call ListFoundationModels in your Region and read `modelLifecycle` before pinning a model ID. Claude 3.x IDs in several Regions stop working on 13 November 2026 and requests don't redirect

### Nemotron 3.5 Super VL

1. Set `chat_template_kwargs` to `{"enable_thinking": false}` for short tasks. Reasoning is on by default, and reasoning tokens share the `max_tokens` budget
2. Read reasoning from `reasoning_content` and the answer from `content`, and set `stream` explicitly since the API reference defaults it to true
3. Don't send confidential or personal data to the hosted trial. The model page asks callers not to and says use is logged
4. Back off and retry on throttling. Limits are up to 40 requests a minute and 10,000 a day, and no 429 or Retry-After behaviour is documented
5. For production, use a partner endpoint or serve the weights. When self-hosting with NVIDIA's vLLM command, drop `--allowed-local-media-path=/` unless clients are trusted
6. Set `NVIDIA_USAGE_TELEMETRY_ENABLED=false` if you use `langchain-nvidia-ai-endpoints` and don't want aggregate usage counts sent to NVIDIA
