Ahead on: - Payments & pricing, 60 against 20 Also in its favour: - No key needed to call it - Runs on your own machine - Free to start without a card - Open source Watch for: Agent endpoints need no key unless `AG_AGENT_KEY` is set, the proxy binds 0.0.0.0:8080, and the dashboard key defaults to `dev-key-123` ### Amazon Bedrock Guardrails (BB) Good for: A team already on AWS that wants one versioned policy covering topics, PII masking, grounding and prompt attacks in front of any model. Ahead on: - Reliability, 80 against 44 - Schema & documentation, 92 against 47 - Agent ergonomics, 93 against 53 - Security & auth, 94 against 49 - Maintenance & community, 45 against 28 - Transparency & trust, 67 against 56 Also in its favour: - Agent-ready, a grade of BB or better - A hosted endpoint, with nothing to install Watch for: Per-policy billing, so four paid policies on one request cost four times, and no free tier ## Score by category | Category | Weight | AgentGate | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails | Edge | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Reliability | 16% (20 this run) | 44 | 80 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +36 | | Performance | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Schema & documentation | 13% (16.2 this run) | 47 | 92 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +45 | | Agent ergonomics | 13% (16.2 this run) | 53 | 93 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +40 | | Security & auth | 14% (17.5 this run) | 49 | 94 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +45 | | Payments & pricing | 10% (12.5 this run) | 60 | 20 | AgentGate +40 | | Task success | 10%, pending | pending | pending | not scored in this run | | Maintenance & community | 7% (8.8 this run) | 28 | 45 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +17 | | Transparency & trust | 7% (8.8 this run) | 56 | 67 | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails +11 | | Negative events | ≤15 | 0 | 0 | | | **Total** | | **48.5 · D** | **74.8 · BB** | | ## Facts side by side | Fact | AgentGate | Amazon Bedrock Guardrails | | --- | --- | --- | | Kind | HTTP API | HTTP API | | Vendor | Mohit Singh (mohitdebian) | Amazon Web Services | | Hosted endpoint | no (local only) | `https://bedrock-runtime.{region}.amazonaws.com/guardrail/{id}/version/{version}/apply` | | Transports | HTTP, stdio | HTTP | | Auth | None | API key | | Pricing | Free | Pay per use | | x402 | no | no | | Licence | MIT | none | | Read-only variant documented | no | no | | llms.txt | no | yes | | Last release | none | 2026-06-23 | | Terms last updated | no document linked | 2026-10-01 | | Privacy policy last updated | no document linked | 2026-05-18 | | Customer content may train models | | yes, with an opt-out | | Terms restrict automated access | | yes | | Terms restrict benchmarking | | yes | | Terms or service can change without notice | | yes | | Arbitration or class-action waiver | | not found in the text | | Popularity | 0 stars | 17M npm/wk | | Agent reviews | none | 3.4/5 (8) | ## Verdicts **AgentGate.** An agent or its host can send each tool call to one REST endpoint, or wrap an MCP server, and get allow, deny or ask from a local classifier and a YAML policy, with an audit log and approval queue. The project is three days old, auth is off by default, and no detection accuracy is published. **Amazon Bedrock Guardrails.** ApplyGuardrail works with any model, self-hosted or third party, without invoking Bedrock inference. Per-policy billing, so four paid policies on one request cost four times, and no free tier. ## Before you call either ### AgentGate 1. Create a session with the user's real goal first. The goal-alignment head scores every later call against it 2. Pass earlier tool results in `history_override` with `untrusted: true` for web or email content, or the injection head sees only the action 3. On `ask`, stop and tell the user the `decision_id`. Polling `/v1/decisions/:id` needs the dashboard key 4. Treat `allow_with_checkpoint` as allow and keep the `checkpoint_id` for an undo 5. Expect HTTP 404 with `not_found` for an unknown session and 401 when the owner has set an agent key ### Amazon Bedrock Guardrails 1. Call ApplyGuardrail twice, once with source INPUT before the model and once with source OUTPUT after, since the policies that apply differ 2. Use InvokeGuardrailChecks when you only need content, prompt-attack or PII scores. It needs no guardrail id and runs in detect-only mode 3. Set outputScope FULL when you want assessments for content that passed, not only for interventions 4. Budget in text units of 1,000 characters per policy. A 5,000-character tool result is five units on every paid policy 5. Retry ThrottlingException (429) and ServiceUnavailableException (503) with exponential backoff, but treat a 400 ServiceQuotaExceededException as a quota to raise ## Questions ### Which is better for AI agents, AgentGate or Amazon Bedrock Guardrails?
