# Crypto exchange APIs and MCP servers for AI agents

> 21 crypto exchanges ranked by the Anchor benchmark. Leader Gemini Exchange API (BB). Exchanges where an agent reads prices and order books, holds balances and places, amends and cancels orders for a person or a treasury, through REST and WebSocket APIs, FIX and, where the exchange runs one, an MCP server. Compared on whether an official MCP server exists, what an API key can be limited to, rate limits, which countries are served, fees and what the terms say about automated trading.

## Summaries

### 70. Gemini Exchange API, BB (74.6)

Gemini's exchange API for spot, margin, perpetuals, prediction markets and staking, through REST, WebSocket and FIX, with API key roles or OAuth, plus an official MCP server and SDKs from its developer-platform repository. Gemini publishes an OpenAPI and AsyncAPI contract, API key roles that keep withdrawals off a trading key, a funded sandbox, and an official MCP server whose tools carry read-only and destructive annotations and a confirm gate. Client order ids are not checked for duplicates, there is no SLA, and UK, EEA and Australian accounts closed in April 2026.

- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 159. Kraken API, BB (71)

Kraken's exchange APIs cover spot, tokenised US stocks, forex and futures over REST, WebSocket and FIX, with rate limits by client tier, a self-service futures demo and kraken-cli, an open-source CLI whose kraken-mcp binary is a local MCP server. Kraken pairs a documented REST, WebSocket and FIX API with the open-source kraken-cli, whose kraken-mcp server gates 33 dangerous tools behind approval and signs in by OAuth with a no-withdrawal key. Spot has no self-service sandbox, no OpenAPI file was found, and a 59-minute connectivity outage hit every interface on 30 October 2026.

- Capabilities: exchange.spot-trading, exchange.market-data, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 221. dYdX, B (69.5)

dYdX is a perpetuals exchange on its own Cosmos chain. Agents read markets and accounts from the indexer REST and WebSocket API at indexer.dydx.trade and place orders as signed chain transactions through the official TypeScript, Python and Rust clients. dYdX gives an agent keyless indexer reads, permissioned keys limited by message type, subaccount and market, a Statuspage with a clean 90 days, published fees and a testnet with a faucet. There is no official MCP server or OpenAPI file, orders are chain transactions signed by the clients, and no one entity operates the hosted endpoints.

- Capabilities: exchange.derivatives, exchange.market-data, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto, wallet.onchain

### 413. OKX API, B (64.3)

OKX's V5 API covers spot, margin, perpetual, futures and options trading, account and market data over REST and WebSocket, with demo trading on the same host and an open-source Agent Trade Kit whose okx-trade-mcp package is a local MCP server. OKX publishes per-endpoint rate limits, Read, Trade and Withdraw key permissions with IP binding, demo trading on the production host, and an MIT MCP server with 170 tools, a read-only flag and a permission check at startup. The fee table and privacy policy were not read, no OpenAPI file was found, and the news tools return third-party text.

### 446. Uniswap Trading API, B (63.3)

Uniswap Labs' Trading API quotes and builds swap, bridge and liquidity transactions across Uniswap v2, v3, v4 and UniswapX on 21 chains. The caller signs with its own wallet and broadcasts; the API is free behind an API key. The Trading API is free, documented by an OpenAPI file with stable error codes, holds no keys since the caller signs every swap, and posts sunset notices 30 days ahead. There is no official MCP server, status page or sandbox, the key is a plain header secret at 6 requests a second, and the API terms refused our reader.

### 448. Binance API, B (63.2)

Binance's API covers spot, margin and futures trading, market data and account endpoints over REST, WebSocket and FIX, with a free spot testnet and a remote MCP server, documented on 30 October 2026, that trades inside a dedicated Agentic sub-account. Binance publishes numeric rate limits, a free testnet with FIX, connectors in eight languages and, since late October 2026, a remote MCP server that trades only in a dedicated sub-account with no withdrawal scope. There is no status page, the terms and privacy notice could not be read, and the MCP tool list is not published.

### 493. Coinbase Advanced Trade API, C (61.7)

Coinbase's Advanced Trade API is the trading API of a Coinbase account, with REST, WebSocket feeds and a static sandbox for spot, US futures and, since October 2026, perpetuals on a Deribit-based gateway, authenticated by CDP API keys. Advanced Trade has a public OpenAPI spec, keys limited to view, trade or transfer and to one portfolio, and a keyless static sandbox. No REST rate limit is published, the fee schedule, user agreement and country list sit behind a bot check, and an agent that wants an MCP route uses the separate coinbase-mcp listing.

- Capabilities: exchange.spot-trading, exchange.market-data, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, market.crypto

### 591. Coinbase MCP server (Coinbase for Agents), C (60)

Coinbase's remote MCP server connects an agent to a person's Coinbase account to trade crypto, eligible US stocks and futures, manage portfolios and pay for x402 data from the account's USDC balance, after the person signs in with OAuth. Coinbase's remote MCP gives an agent OAuth access to a person's Coinbase account, with ten scopes, per-portfolio grants, revocation from account settings and client order IDs for safe retries. Only allowlisted clients can connect, the tool schemas aren't public, no rate limit is published and no server-side limit on order size is documented.

- Capabilities: exchange.spot-trading, exchange.balances, exchange.market-data, wallet.custody, market.crypto, data.markets, payments.x402, wallet.spend-limits, payments.stablecoin · endpoint: `https://agents.coinbase.com/mcp`

### 650. Deribit, C (59)

Deribit is a crypto options, futures and perpetuals exchange owned by Coinbase, with a JSON-RPC API over WebSocket and HTTP, a FIX API and a test environment at test.deribit.com. Deribit's JSON-RPC API has scoped keys with IP and expiry limits, asymmetric signing, an OpenAPI file, numeric rate limits and a 64-entry changelog. There is no official MCP server or client library, the fee schedule, terms and privacy policy sit on a support site that refused our reader, and the status page did not resolve.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/deribit · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/deribit.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/deribit.json

### 687. Bitfinex API, C (58.4)

Bitfinex's v2 API for spot, margin, derivatives and peer-to-peer funding, with balances, deposits and withdrawals, through REST and WebSocket with scoped API keys, paper-trading sub-accounts and official Node, Python, Go and Ruby clients. Bitfinex gives an agent scoped keys with a separate withdraw permission, paper-trading sub-accounts on the production API, llms.txt and official clients in four languages. There is no official MCP server, responses are positional arrays with empty error bodies, rate limits run 10 to 90 a minute per IP, and the terms, API terms and privacy statement could not be read.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitfinex · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitfinex.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/bitfinex.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 745. Bybit, C (57.3)

Bybit is a centralised crypto exchange for spot, perpetual and futures contracts, options and earn products, reached through its V5 REST and WebSocket API, a FIX order-entry gateway and an official stdio MCP server published from its GitHub organisation. Bybit publishes per-endpoint rate limits, a demo environment, scoped keys with a read-only flag and IP binding, and an official stdio MCP server whose 398 tools carry read-only and destructive annotations. There is no status page, no OpenAPI file, no SLA, the MCP server has no toolsets, and the global terms and privacy pages are drawn by script.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bybit · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bybit.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/bybit.json

Gate runs official hosted MCP servers with keyless market data and OAuth-scoped trading, a local stdio server with a read-only switch, per-endpoint rate limits with headers and a futures testnet. There is no status page, SLA or OpenAPI file, the fee table needs a login, the MCP host is a separate domain, and the terms name no company.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/gate-io · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/gate-io.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/gate-io.json

### 791. MEXC API, C (56.3)

MEXC's spot and futures API gives programmatic access to market data, orders, balances, transfers and withdrawals over REST and WebSocket, with an official command-line tool that also runs as a local MCP server for AI agents. MEXC publishes granular key permissions, per-pair key limits, weighted rate limits with Retry-After and a dated changelog, and its official CLI runs a read-only-capable MCP server with confirmation before any fund movement. There is no sandbox or status page, API futures orders pay a higher fee schedule, and the user agreement excludes the US, UK, EU members and others.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/mexc · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/mexc.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/mexc.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, market.crypto

### 860. Upbit Open API, C (54.7)

Upbit's Open API has a mandatory IP allow-list, scoped keys with a default withdrawal lock, per-group rate limits with 429 and 418 signalling, an order-test endpoint, official SDKs, a CLI and agent skills with a CONFIRM gate. There is no MCP server, sandbox or status page, and the fees and terms sit on a host our crawler may not read.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/upbit · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/upbit.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/upbit.json

### 890. Bitget, D (53.9)

Bitget is a centralised crypto exchange for spot, margin, futures, earn and tokenised stocks, reached through its Unified Trading Account v3 REST and WebSocket API and an Agent Hub toolkit with a stdio MCP server, CLI and agent skills. Bitget's official MCP server keeps the default surface to 14 intent tools with discovery, read-only and paper-trading switches, dry runs and a confirmation gate on withdrawals, over an API with demo trading. A 388 million dollar wallet breach in September 2026 paused withdrawals for eight days, and there is no status page, SLA or readable fee table.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitget · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitget.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/bitget.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 891. KuCoin, D (53.9)

KuCoin is a centralised crypto exchange for spot, margin and futures trading and earn products, reached through its REST and WebSocket API with a unified trading account, an official multi-language SDK and read-only agent skills. It runs no MCP server. KuCoin publishes pooled rate limits with remaining and reset headers, scoped keys where withdrawals and transfers need an IP allow-list, an official SDK in five languages and read-only agent skills. It runs no MCP server, has no sandbox, status page or OpenAPI file, and its terms name no legal entity.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/kucoin · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/kucoin.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/kucoin.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 999. Bithumb Open API, D (50.6)

Bithumb, a Korean exchange, runs a REST and WebSocket Open API for KRW market data, orders, balances, deposits and withdrawals, and an official AI Trade Kit with a local MCP server, a CLI and agent skills. Bithumb runs an official local MCP server with 41 tools, module selection and a read-only flag, beside a CLI with per-profile read-only gating and six agent skills, over an API with scoped one-year keys and a mandatory IP list. There is no sandbox, no status page, no documented 429 behaviour, and the fees and terms couldn't be read.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bithumb · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bithumb.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/bithumb.json

### 1002. Bitstamp API, D (50.4)

Bitstamp's HTTP API v2 for spot and derivatives trading, balances, deposits and withdrawals, with WebSocket and FIX feeds and a sandbox at sandbox.bitstamp.net. Bitstamp is a Robinhood company since June 2025. Bitstamp documents its v2 API on one static page with numeric rate limits, per-endpoint key permissions, an IP allow-list, a kill switch and a sandbox. There is no official MCP server, duplicate client order ids are allowed, and the fee schedule, terms, privacy policy and country list render by script and could not be read.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitstamp · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/bitstamp.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/bitstamp.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 1018. Hyperliquid, D (50)

Hyperliquid is a perpetuals and spot exchange whose order book runs on its own chain. Agents trade through the REST info and exchange endpoints and WebSocket at api.hyperliquid.xyz, signing with a wallet key or an approved API wallet. Hyperliquid's API needs no signup or key, an approved API wallet can trade but not withdraw, fees and rate limits are published with numbers, and a testnet mirrors mainnet. There is no official MCP server, OpenAPI file, status page, changelog or readable terms, and signing uses two schemes the docs say to leave to an SDK.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/hyperliquid · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/hyperliquid.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/hyperliquid.json
- Capabilities: exchange.derivatives, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.market-data, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto, wallet.onchain

### 1100. Crypto.com Exchange API, D (46.8)

Crypto.com Exchange's trading API for spot, perpetuals, margin, staking and trading bots, through REST, WebSocket and FIX with HMAC-signed API keys. Crypto.com's cdcx-cli adds an MCP server, agent skills and local paper trading. Crypto.com is one of two exchanges here with an official MCP server, cdcx-cli, whose 95 generated tools are grouped by service and gated by safety tier. The API docs, OpenAPI file, terms and trading rules refused or hid from our reader, so rate limits, key permissions and the automated-trading clauses are unchecked, and cdcx has no release since June 2026.

- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, exchange.staking, market.crypto

### 1166. HTX trading API, E (43.3)

HTX, the exchange formerly Huobi, runs REST and WebSocket APIs for spot and derivatives trading, balances, transfers and withdrawals, authenticated with HMAC-signed API keys that carry read, trade and withdraw permissions. HTX's API has per-endpoint rate limits, read, trade and withdraw key permissions with IP binding, and SDKs in five languages. No official MCP server exists, the testnet is closed, the public reference is still Huobi's with a 2022 changelog, and the fee schedule, terms and restricted countries are on script-drawn pages we couldn't read.

- Page: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/htx · Markdown: https://www.anchorterminal.com/tools/htx.md · JSON: https://www.anchorterminal.com/api/v1/tools/htx.json
- Capabilities: exchange.market-data, exchange.spot-trading, exchange.derivatives, exchange.balances, exchange.transfers, market.crypto

## How we test this category

In this run, public evidence against the published checklist. When the task suites run, the same read-only key on each exchange's testnet or sandbox, a price and an order book read, a small limit order placed and cancelled, and the balance read back. We check key scopes, rate limits, the order lifecycle and what the terms let an agent do. This test hasn't run yet, so Task success is pending and the grades here come from the categories assessed from public evidence.
